Getting ready to start the tour.

We were recently visiting DC with our two teenagers. We had a limited amount of time in the city and a long list of museums and sites to see so we decided to book an evening 3 hour bike tour to maximize site seeing. We booked through Get Your Guide and they contracted with Unlimited Biking for the tour. Our guide, Tim, was friendly and very knowledgeable and our two teens thought the experience was the highlight of our time in DC! We visited a variety or noteworthy landmarks and the biking was a great low key activity! I highly recommend it!

So many bicycles to rent. Bikers paradise...perhaps. Top marks for customer service. Both Alex and Robert were quick, efficient and friendly. They even laughed at my jokes, which are homely painful 'dad' jokes. So, they indeed went above and beyond in making me feel welcome. The quality of the bikes were ok. Definitely doable for exploring the sites. Don't forget the combination for the lock they give you.

My bike is to the right of me, placed on the ground to take a picture with the Washington monument!

The number they give you to call if anything goes wrong is horribly managed. My bike lock wouldn't open (even though it worked multiple times previously). I called the number 5 times before someone was available to answer. I could not hear the lady at all because she wouldn't take herself off speaker. She got mad at me for not being able to hear her (I am able bodied, I couldn't imagine someone trying to contact them with a hearing impairment). She abruptly told me to send a pin of my location to the number dialed and hung up before I could ask for further assistance. THANK GOD I was within walking distance of the brick and mortar. Everyone in the building was incredibly friendly, helpful, and understanding. My only issue was with the call center, I wish they would give you a number to the actual store you rent the bike from.. Other than that the bikes aren't the best quality but they get you around the city. In shop customer service was great.

We loved this bike tour! David was really good at explaining highlights at the different monuments and keeping us engaged. The bikes provided were high quality. Biking to the monuments really felt like the best way to get around. We felt it saved us a lot of time and effort to have someone guiding us around. The biking part was not strenuous, although my 9 year old appreciated having a tag-a-long bike with her dad. We were given about 10 minutes to look around at each monument.

I booked a night ride through TripAdvisor two days before our tour. The meeting place itself is next to a main road and easy to locate. Our guide, Wally, gave us a brief safety orientation and our group was on our way within 10 mins of the scheduled start time. If you're concerned about finding a bathroom, rest assured you stop at one 2 mins after departing. I believe we had 8-10 stops in total with enough time to explore at a few of them. Wally did a great job leading us and providing historical context about each monument/memorial. The one thing I would caution is that it did get quite dark towards the end of our tour (close to 9:30 pm) and even with the bike light some of the paths and sidewalks were tricky to navigate (and further complicated by oblivious pedestrians). Regardless, watching the sun set over the sights of the National Mall was especially memorable. Love that DC is so bike friendly -- after the tour, my bf and I felt particularly inspired to continue using bike transportation to explore the city!

Taking our bikes off the water ferry from the Wharf to Old Town

My husband and I - who live in DC - were meeting our friend in Old Town so we could bike the Mt Vernon trail. I called the day before and while the Old Town location was closed for an event, I was able to easily book two bikes -- $45 each for the day which includes a helmet and bike lock. I was asked if I wanted admission to Mt Vernon and I mistakenly thought the trail was part of a National Park and hence, required $. Nope - I paid for admission for Mt Vernon (George Washington's house) which is at the end of the trail. I asked for a refund and it was a negligible amount - less than $10 - so they offered to give me a store credit or put it towards insurance. All in all, the DC location is easy to get to (300 feet from the Wharf / City Cruise Potomac ferry) and easy to rent bikes from!

THIN BRAKE PADS = UNSAFE BIKE

DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICES! Buyer beware as they do not stand behind their promises to deliver quality, mechanically sound bikes. Additionally, they will not follow thru with refunds once disputes are filed. My group rented bikes for a charity-based ride in May. I paid for a Road bike, which was triple the price of the hybrid bike that was presented at the ride start. The delivery driver immediately texted his boss about "the mix up", and I was told it would be "made right". Because I had traveled across the US to participate, I opted to ride the only option given. Once on the route, I learned the bike brake pads were worn down to sheer nubs resulting in an unsafe, unreliable ride. None of the various rest stops on the organized ride could offer more than an "I'm sorry...these are in bad shape, but I do not have parts to fix it. Be careful". At the conclusion of the ride, I again got the assurance of the delivery driver that the company would "be in contact to make it right". Numerous emails and calls later, I have a promise of a refund, an email stating credit would be coming, and NO REFUND! When you call, it is just a call center promising to "push it to managemnet". When you email, it is again a PUSH to someone else to address. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS! NO REFUND. SKIP THIS COMPANY ENTIRELY WHEN MAKING A CHOICE. DO NOT RUIN YOUR TRIP EXPERIENCE WITH THIS DISHONEST BUSINESS.

Tim-PhD. Super knowledge. Super nice. Great guide! Ask for Tim!

We did the Monuments tour-- SO MUCH FUN!! Lots of outside! Lots of fresh air! 3 hours of historic monuments and fascinating facts plus exercise! Had a wonderful time. Grumpy spouse-- who never likes anything we do--said he was having fun! Tim was our guide and he was so amazing! (He has a PhD in a history discipline). Such enthusiasm and knowledge!!! Knew how to interact well with everyone including the kids on the tour. Personable. Really awesome guide!!! We were able to see so many monuments up close in person and hear some amazing history lessons! No way we could have done this on foot! I took a spill, hit my face, bruised chin, scraped knee and hand, chipped 2 teeth (do not think cracked fortunately). slipped off the sidewalk onto the gravel by the mall. Fortunately not traveling at high speed. I'm clumsy and not an athlete. The athletic pants save my knee from having gravel and dirt in it! But next time would wear tighter fitting clothes-- mine got caught on the bike a few times but unstuck quickly. Maybe would have been less worried about trying to catch up had I used an E-bike. Everyone else looked really fit and everyone was on a regular bike. All of The kids on the tour crushed it. If you're like me and more of a foodie than an athlete, maybe get an e-bike!! Minus the spill it was a 10/5 stars!! fun tour--would do again and again!! This was a great family activity that grumpy spouse enjoyed plus teen kid enjoyed. In hind sight would practice biking a lot more before the tour.. Husband recommended a football helmet and mouth guard for me. . Last year we scheduled a tour and had to cancel due to medical emergency. Just bad luck. Would I have done the tour knowing I'd need dental work afterwards? Well no. But If you don't have baaaad luck, it's 10/5 fun! The good side is when bad things happen you learn what kind of a business you're working with. So Tim came running over to check on me with the spill. And last year when we had a medical emergency and could not make it, the company was a good as their word and fully refunded our money. We found out that Protests were planned the day of our tour this year so called and staff said they have a back up route in case of protests. But they kindly changed our date with no issue!!! So the people they hire are absolutely wonderful. They are fair and keep their word about refunding if you have to cancel. They will swap dates with no issue. They are kind and helpful all around. We had multiple contacts with their staff. They are always nice. In person and over the phone. A trustworthy outfit!! 5/5 stars Highly recommend. Would use again.

Took the Unlimited Biking monument night tour at the end of our trip to DC. Our tour guide had a lot of great facts and was great on his feet with responses! A great way to get around and see the main sights along the mall with some great photo opportunities. It's a great pace for those who may not be confident cyclists or those who may have spent the last 4 days walking the city instead to just relax and enjoy.

I was very disappointed when I arrived at my DC "Fat Tire" bike tour. I have been on Fat Tire…read moretours before and all of their bikes are street cruisers that are super comfortable and easy to ride. When we pulled up it was clear that this was not an actual fat tire tour. Fat Tire as partnered with a local existing bike company called "Bikes Unlimited". To make sure that I got a tag-a-long for my youngest, as I know those go faster, I reached out to to fat tire customer support for instructions since I didn't see the option at check out. They advised that I put that in the notes section of the reservation. Bikes Unlimited informed me when we got there that they don't even see these notes. The only bike they had that would fit me and pull a tag-a-long was a men's mountain bike. The bar on the bike was so high that it was up my butt when I had my feet on the ground but the bike was overall too small for me when riding because the seat had to be low so I could touch the ground with the high bar. The seat was rock hard and I tweaked my back from being bent in half. I had been expecting a road cruiser they advertise on the fat tire website so riding around on a mountain bike that was both too big and too small was a bit of a disappointment. They did have cruiser style bikes that my other family members were able to use but they did not have a way to connect those to a tag-a-long. All of the other people in our tour were on standard type mountain bikes and not fat tire cruiser type bikes. Also when I reached out to the customer service line there was not option for US tours. This is because this is not a US Fat Tire Tour. This is some sort of agreement where the Bike's Unlimited Company is paying Fat Tire to be listed on their website as a Fat Tire tour. So I could not even reach the company to let them know we had gotten lost and would be there shortly when we were running behind. All that said, our tour guide was great and aside from being uncomfortable the bike tour was a great way to see all the monuments. It looks like it was also a little cheaper to book with kids via fat tire. I recommend you check out the bikes unlimited website to understand what types of bikes they have and then call them directly if you have issues or want to make sure to reserve a specific type of bike in advance. If you need a tag-a-long make sure to bring a tall person with a good back who can ride a mountain bike and you should be fine. Had I known ahead of time what to expect might not have been so disappointed with my overall experience. Starting out stressed and frustrated sort of soured the whole experience.

Bait and Switch / Misrepresentation of Tours vs. what is received / affiliate company is…read morenon-accountable Fat Tire Tours DOES NOT OPERATE the DC bike tours. Their affiliate "Unlimited Biking" does and as a result, the Integrity, Professionalism, and Experience you are used to from a Fat Tire- run tour is absent from the unaccountable, dishonest, and unfriendly staff that Unlimited Biking provides. After showing up to check in ahead of our 10:30 AM tour time today, we were told what we booked is not what we would be receiving. When asked if we could receive what was represented on the websites, we were told no. No refund was offered - a classic bait-and-switch. On July 11, we booked the "Best of DC Electric Bike Tour" on the FatTireTours website for $79 each X 4. What was supposed to be a 3.5 hour tour, ended up being 2.5 hours. For this tour, the description says " Our electric bike tours operate in groups of a maximum of 8 people", however there were 14 people on our tour. The description indicates that we would be seeing the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Union Station, The Jefferson Memorial, and the Tidal Basin. None of attractions were on our tour. The description also represents that we will be making a "Brief stop for lunch", however this did not happen either. Most importantly, the representation of this particular tour was that it would be an "Electric Bike Tour". In fact, the description of the tour boasts " No other tour on our menu covers as many sites as this one!". But instead, we were on a regular tour, with regular bike riders. We were given Electric Bikes, but since all the other riders on the tour had regular bikes, we could not take advantage of the benefits of the electric bikes. We spent the majority of the time, coasting, or braking while we waited for children on the rest of the tour on their non-electric bikes to keep up the pace. The tour was slow and we saw less. When I asked for the tour that we paid for, Emily M said "you are getting an "Electric Bike Tour....you are on a bike Tour and you have Electric Bikes", ignoring the fact that all other representations on both Fat Tire and Unlimited Biking websites clearly differentiate the Electric Bike Tours from all other tours. Subjectively adjusting the English language to defensively tell me, the customer, that I was incorrect, is a disgrace to customer service. At the end of the tour, Emily said "I understand there was a miscommunication on the Fat Tire Website that hasn't been updated" and offered us TO PAY MORE to take the 6:30 PM tour for half-price. When I asked for a refund, she refused, saying that it's a third-party mistake. When I told her the description on the Unlimited Biking website says all the same things in the description of the Electric Bike Tour, she said "oh, we'll have to look into that" and ended the conversation. For your reference, here are the representations of each tour made on your respective websites; neither of which is what we received today. https://www.unlimitedbiking.com/tours/monumental-electric-bike-tour/ https://www.fattiretours.com/washington-dc/tours/best-of-dc-electric-bike-tour

We signed up for the electric scooter tour (mostly at my behest - because I love them so:). My girl and I were a party of two, and we joined a party of 3 (mom and two girls) for a run ride out on the town. First, we met at the bike shop, where all the scooters and accommodations had been taken care of ahead of time. The shop is conveniently located by this quiet alley, where Barry gave us an overview of the trip, discussed any special considerations, went over relevant safety stuff, and let everyone practice and get comfortable on the scooters (in the safety of that quiet alley). All with a GREAT sense of humor and a smile. It was enough to put even that nervous mother at ease with her girls. We are local to the area and love history, spooky stories and corny jokes so for us this is a fun date :-). The tour began at the Old Stone House where we were checked in and divided into two groups of about 18 people each. Everyone in our group was from out of town except us and our amazing tour guide Sonia. She effortlessly led us from site to site while allowing time for questions and photos. She also made sure our group stayed together and safely crossed the streets. I was concerned that it would be hard to hear given the traffic and Saturday night usual cacophony that is Georgetown but that generally wasn't a problem. We didn't see any ghosts - DRAT! But we did have fun and learn some history along the way. We would recommend this tour company and this particular tour.

She also was very knowledgeable and respectful of current tenants of the buildings and made sure that the group was also respectful for those living in the area. Love the tour especially with it ending at the Exorcist stairway.
