I just contacted CityMac to get an estimate to replace the battery on my Macbook Pro. They quickly responded by text saying it costs from $79.99. I then asked how long it would take and received a second reply that it would take 3-5 business days and would cost $600. Talk about bait and switch. I had a great experience at the Bellingham CityMac. I brought my iPhone in for some issues with the camera, and they were able to replace the camera for me for free since I was still under my warranty. They told me it would take 3-4 hours to fix, but I got an email saying my phone was ready to be picked up only an hour and a half later! Anthony was super friendly and helpful and made the whole process super easy. My roommate has gotten her laptop fixed there before and also had a great experience after being laughed at and told that her laptop was unfixable by other laptop repair places in Bellingham. read more

This morning, right before deadlines, I went to power up my laptop, and to my disbelief, the screen remained a mirror, reflecting my very stressed face back at me. After trying every single charger in the house, I was resigned the the forums. When these weird keyboard combos didn't help, I packed up and headed down to CityMac. Alex was there and ready to help, and within 15 minutes was able to reconnect my battery, which apparently was the root of all issues. I brought my 5-year-old MacBook Air to City Mac because it abruptly stopped turning on. The technician attempted a hard re-set, to no avail. He then told me it would cost minimum $500 to take the computer apart, diagnose, and repair. He said it was cheaper to buy a new computer and turned me away. I then brought my laptop to FixCo (on commercial) for a second opinion. They were able to get my Mac up and running FREE of charge and with no repairs necessary. I have now vowed to never return to City Mac BHam. I have bought many products and had service done in the other location. Recently, I had done everything I know to do to clean my charging port on my iPhone, which finally reached the point of no charging. When I took my phone into City Mac BHam, and asked how much they would charge to clean it, I was told $50.00. I was outraged having once had it cleaned for $20 in the old location. I had 5% charge, needed my phone, paid them the 50. It took a tech in the back room less that 5 minutes to clean it. I am pleased to hear about Bad Apple in MV, I would rather spend the time and money on gas and drive to Apple Store in Lynnwood than ever give CM my business again. I intend to have a conversation with the owner (if I can connect with him/her) see if they care. I have nothing against the people at the counter, I have no use for an organization that puts profit ahead of customer needs, especially when it comes the Mac community. I made an appointment through their website to get my screen fixed. Once I got there, there was a line of people and was told even if I had an appointment, I had to wait my turn. Well over an hour later I was finally seen, and there is one person working the service desk, with a large line and no sense of urgency to get through it. Don't advertise appointments if you don't stick to them, it's bad business practice, and poor customer service training. read more

Don't bother making an appointment, particularly for an apple care repair. They will want your device for the minimum of a full day or up to 7 days as they might, for unknown reasons until after your device is tended to, have to send your device to apple. I schedule an appointment days in advance. arrived early, stood in line for 30 minutes and was told that that the process doesn't start until several hours after I dropped my device off. read more

It was time to replace the iPhone battery with the deal Apple announced at with the update that slows the phone down so it won't power down from a weak battery. CityMac doesn't do lists like the Apple store does. And they were not ready for the announcement of the battery swap over 2018 New Years. I can't fault them as they had 3 batteries on hand. I went on on 01/02/18, they weren't doing any phones that day, come back. I did. 01/03, they had a huge demand for battery replacements. So they started a list, and they said they would call me, as I was one of the first ones on the list. The weekend came and no call, checked with, and no one was swapping out batteries that weekend either. Came back on Monday. (Remember I started this last Tuesday) They had stopped the list, as they had over 400 people on it. One Saturday visit, the manager pulled a battery and put my name on it, even though I was #3 on the list. The Mac guy took my phone, instructing me to come back in 2 hours, and Vallah! It was finished! The CityMac staff was caught in the middle of an Apple secrecy snafu. They were left unprepared for the rush the hit them. -CityMac Staff-5-Stars!! -Apple 1-Star for not being transparent on slowing down older phones so they would not shut down. You can make an appointment but that doesn't hold you a spot because they take walk ins. I had to come back 30 minutes later to get help even though I got there on time for my appointment. There is no follow up after an appointment- if you call no one will talk to you other than to tell you to come back in (and wait) but technicians apparently can't follow up if you leave the store and still have issues once you get home. Very very frustrating when you have any kind of problem that is not resolved right there in the store. read more

I took my I phone in per TMobil. phone wouldn't charge due to dirt. went to city max repair asked how much. what I thought he said was $15 dollars. when he returned after a 3 min clean it was $ 53. wow Covid is over quit over charging your customers. Lots of negative reviews of City Mac on Yelp. Now I see why. I tried doing a clean install of macOS on my laptop and ended up with a computer that wouldn't boot. I brought it to City Mac and after waiting 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge my presence, I was told it would be $160 to reinstall the OS. That is a colossal ripoff. There is no way that plugging the computer in and clicking a button or two provides $160 worth of value. The service guy was rude and said "thats our standard software fee." Hey City Mac, do you know what the Apple Store at Alderwood charges for the same thing? $0. Free. Nada. So if you need service on an Apple product, dont waste your time at City Mac. Take your computer to the real Apple Store down south and get 1000x better service for less money. read more

Had an issue with my wife's iPhone 12 mini. I could not get it out of sleep mode and it would not indicate charging when plugged into a good charger and cable. Even a forced restart did not work. CityMac solved the issue in less than a minute, no charge. Turns out that I needed to perform the forced restart while plugged into power. Thanks competent staff at CityMac. On Friday, 10/26/18, I dropped of my daughters new MacBook pro at CityMac because it wouldn't power up. I intentionally came up early to drop it off at 10am so that I could get a status on it by the end of the day. At the time of check-in I asked when a good time would be to get a status report and we agreed that 2pm would be a good time. I called at 2pm and the response was that it wasn't ready (hadn't looked at it yet) and she said, emphatically, that they would call when they had a chance to look at it. I called again at 4pm and the response was the same, so I emphasized that all I just wanted a status on the condition of the computer and a call back before the end of the business day before leaving town. Finally, at 5:45pm before closing, I gave up and went into the store and it was explained to me that they hadn't looked at it because they had been busy. I understand being busy. All I wanted was a phone call whether it would take a week to fix--or whether they didn't have time to look at it--to determine my next steps. Their lack of service and respect for my time resulted in me having to stay in Bellingham for 8 hours with no result. I took the computer to the Apple Store in Bellevue the next day. They gave me the service I expected. It was explained to me what service they might perform and the timeline to get it repaired. It took about one week, and I was given a link to check on its status and I got a call when it was done. I complained to an employee/acting manager that was there. The manager tried to call me back on Monday during my work and left a message. My intention was to call him back and discuss the issue. I finally decide that a Yelp review would be better. It's hard for me to believe that this is an Apple Authorized Dealer. The level of service just doesn't compare. Save yourself the frustration in poor service and go to the Apple Store for service repairs. read more

They fixed my phone. It took 22 days for me to get my phone back because of this companies inability to communicate, answer calls, emails or update their own customer portal. I went to CityMac to get my iPhone 11 pro back the same day. They informed me the screen break was too severe for them to fix it and they would have to ship it to apple. I agreed and that mistake cost me 10+ days of no phone. The guy at the counter said it would take 5 business days. I thought about originally mailing it to apple myself but I didn't want to wait 5-10 business days like Apple promised. I know just had to endear 16 BUSINESS DAYS with no phone. They personally had it for over a week without mentioning it to me or responding to my own messages I left in several places. If you don't care about time then here is your place. Granted Apple did the repair on my phone and they did a great job. I cannot speak for CityMac's repair quality. read more

Generally in the past, I have had great repair jobs here. There are used offerings here as well as new. Payment plans to help you purchase a computer, and helpful staff to answer your questions. Occasionally there are accessories like camera bags and Sonos speaker demos and so forth. **Advice: After you receive your repaired device from the service desk, CHECK if the actual device boots up and look over the body for anything out of place like dents etc. Two separate occasions I have experienced blunders where service personnel dropped a body panel and dented it, but assembled it back together after replacing a part, only for the panel to not sit flush. The last time this happened, I was getting my Butterfly Keyboard replaced (upgraded for free, due to the lawsuit happening) on my new macbook 2017. It appears that the person repairing the keyboard, dented the corner of the bottom panel while it was removed from the body. It caused an obvious misalignment that would not let my touchpad work at all, as I demonstrated. I pointed it out to the service desk five seconds after it was given to me. It appears that they do not quality-check before handing finished items over that they serviced. The final nail this time, is that nothing was offered in return for their damage to my new computer. The dent still exists, snags anything it rubs against. NICE! I am sending my service requests directly to Apple from now on! read more

If I could give this place a negative amount of stars, I would! I went in when I started having trouble with my 2017 MacBook air, as it had stopped charging. When I first went in I was told that if I needed any repairs done there would be a $200+ flat/ working fee, and then I would be charged extra for any parts I would need. I decided to opt for a free diagnostic report just to see what the problem was. I was told that it was the logic board and that would cost me around $400. They did point out though that my computer would at least turn on and work if they left the battery out and I left the computer plugged in at all times. So I opted for that option but kept the battery. I then took it to the Apple Store in Seattle to get a second opinion... Turns out that once they put my battery back in my computer started working just fine and charging again like normal- having the battery out was able to restart one of the charging systems and it was back to life! They did note however that my battery was on its way out and I could opt to buy a new one for $129 with no service fee. They also ran a full diagnostic report and found that it was very unlikely that the logic board was causing any of my charging problems since my computer had only the one issue, and if it had been the logic board they would have seen many more issues. So as it turns out Bellingham City Mac completely misdiagnosed my laptop and would have charged me at LEAST $600 for a repair I DID NOT EVEN NEED. Also when they suggested that they leave my battery out they never mentioned the danger of the battery being out in the open. When I went to Seattle the man that helped me was horrified when I took it out and explained that if the battery had been punctured it would have been a grenade. No one at city mac explained that to me. DO NOT TRUST THEM TO FIX YOUR LAPTOP. IT IS WORTH THE 90 MINUTE DRIVE TO SEATTLE TO GET ACTUAL HELP FROM COMPETENT PEOPLE THAT WON'T OVERCHARGE YOU FOR NO REASON. I also had a friend that had bad experience with them, they are lazy and don't actually try and help you. I will NEVER go back there ever again. read more

At the same time, I signed her up for TD Curran's one-on-one training program. Here's the thing: my mom and I used to spend a frustrating amount of our time together on "tech support" and computer training issues, to the point that it was really putting a strain on our relationship. I am happy with what they did to fix my laptop but customer service as far as interpersonal skills was disheartening. Both times I went in there the employees were simply rude, patronizing and couldn't be bothered with questions. Whoever called me on the phone was very nice but once I was there in person, I was left a bad impression. I have been in customer service for years so perhaps I have higher standards than most. If there were more places in town to fix my Mac, I would go there instead of here. Maybe they need training on kindness and respect, smiles and eye contact? Good customer service; didn't try to upsell me. Went in to get a case for my phone and they had a good selection of iPhone cases. But my favorite thing about this shop is that they sell and service refurbished macs. I've had good results in the past buying a top-of-the-line Mac from just a few years prior so I talked to these guys about that and asked approximately 1 million questions which they answered and didn't seem annoyed. The prices on the refurbished Macs are extremely competitive as well: I did a lot of price checking online and these guys had slightly better prices than the most trusted online refurb mac dealers. Buy local and get better deal...that's pretty awesome. If you need a Mac computer or any Apple accessories these people have good prices and good customer service you can't get any better than that. read more

I have been trying to get a hold of City Mac Bellingham for 2 days now...I've tried text, call, voicemail and Facebook message and I have still heard nothing. They currently have my MacBook and told me they would call me yesterday and I still haven't heard a thing. I need to know if/how much it will cost to repair my computer. I need it for school so I need a timeline ASAP. It's frustrating that nobody will get back to me. I am at a loss at this point. The selection is reasonable, prices are high, service is attentive in the store, but the service department hasn't returned a call from me in several days about some MacBook Pro repairs that I inquired about. My mom had to take two trips to the store because the clerk originally sold her the wrong case for her iPad and she had to take it back for an exchange - given the price point and clientele in the area, a little more attention to detail would be appreciated. read more

I previously wrote a review on here but i suppose my honest opinion on this establishment was too much for their yelp. i'll put it simply. Take your business to anyone but citymac. As the only "apple" store in Bellingham, i'm disappointed in the lack of professionalism in their staff. I've had many experiences with actual Apple representatives and they would be very i unpleased by the attitude of this staff. Either have a meeting on customer support or throw the whole team away and rehire. I will definitely not return and would like to warn others to not make the same mistake as me.
