I really wanted to love this place like their other locations, but it ended up being a very frustrating experience. I've been to other City Thrift stores that felt clean, organized, and affordable. This Shawnee City Thrift was the complete opposite of the others I've been to. The store was messy with shoes piled on top of clothing racks, usually mismatched with no sizing. A lot of the clothing also wasn't in the right sections, so good luck if you're actually trying to browse by size. On top of that, most of the signs on the racks were missing, so it was hard to even tell where anything was supposed to go. The pricing was the biggest shock. Items were insanely overpriced, even when they were clearly damaged. I saw a shirt marked $16 just because it was Calvin Klein. I understand the charity aspect but thrift stores are also supposed to be a place where people can buy donated clothes affordably, and these prices honestly felt kind of mean. There are also no dressing rooms, which I can understand for liability reasons but there was only one mirror in the whole store for everyone to share. If you're going to take away fitting rooms, at least add more mirrors. To top it off, the staff was rude. Every employee I interacted with seemed annoyed that I needed help, and it made the whole place feel even more unwelcoming. I'm giving 2 stars because I've enjoyed other locations and they do have a lot of inventory, However I don't plan on returning to this location. read more

I like that this City Thrift stores support City Union Mission and I always donate exclusively to this particular store. But I don't shop often because I believe their prices on clothing is too expensive and they have no dressing rooms to try on clothing. They have a good variety of items and organized generally well and it is clean. There is a relaxed atmosphere with music and they do have restrooms available. I also feel their service is lacking in friendliness at the check out. I've been here a variety of times and each time I have felt this way. I primarily go in rarely to look for used novels or children's books. The children's books are also over priced as well as the children's clothing. read more

Overall i do not think this is a "bad" thrift store just not the best in the area. the prices are definitely high which is odd with the amount of clothes they actually have. the racks are overflowing with clothes. it can be hard to go through everything because of the amount. i think they would get rid of more clothes and have way more sales if they lowered their prices a little. read more

City Thrift offers a sprawling haven for treasure hunters and bargain seekers alike! From the second you walk in, you are greeted by a large sign with what's on sale- there's something different every day! The stores sheer size allows for a diverse array of items, from vintage clothing to home furnishings, and everything in between. The vintage pieces are curated and in a separate area of the store. While they are more expensive than the rest of the store, I've always found the prices were fair (everything in this section is typically $10-20) for a vintage piece. Each season, the store puts out holiday decor and the selection is second to none! With shelves and shelves of new and vintage decor, it's easy to find that one piece to complete your holiday setting. While the vintage section and the holiday decor sections are amazing, I often skip scouring the racks otherwise. The clothes often are pricey for a thrift store ($10 for a t shirt). Items still with tags on are often priced for $20. If you're a fan of thrifted board games like I am, this is not a place to visit- the board game section is a maze to get through in the back corner of the store. Overall, a great stop if you're in the area (there are many thrift stores on Shawnee Mission Parkway alone). So this is interesting, and I had to do some digging to verify what I had heard was true. I was sitting at a coffee shop one day, chatting with my friend about thrifting. we talked about all the pros/cons and he mentioned that he was once employed here some time ago. What he told me seemed pretty awful, so I am hoping it is not "industry standard" Essentially EVERYONE working there is miserable, and for good reason. He was responsible for sorting clothes and had told me that they had to sort a certain number of pounds or else they would be essentially terminated. The issue with that is you don't know what will come through- as there would be days when you are sorting high end clothing, and as such-taking care to properly sort it, which takes time. Once he realized he was taking too long and said he had to discard a large amount of these clothes, he feared he wouldn't make his quota. Yes, a QUOTA. The morale was always low as these poor folks get micromanaged consistently. So in addition to their insane pricing- unhappy employees, and the thought of items being discarded- I would certainly not want to shop or even DONATE to them. With these practices, I can't imagine they are truly helping any ministries or missions as they imply- however if they can't properly take care of their employees, then I really don't think they're doing much for the community in need, other than giving them donations from their massive stock of discarded items. So if you see an unhoused individual wearing Gucci, and an employee who's pulled all their hair out due to the stress- you can thank City Thrift for both! read more

Prices have gotten ridiculous. While true across the board from decor to hardware, I cite my experience today pulling up 2 items (plastic bins and workshop drawer liner) on my phone while in store that were BOTH OVER 300% markup what you'd pay at Walmart & Lowes for brand new. In my experience this has slowly gotten worse over the last 6-8mos, so I can't give them the benefit of doubt of a couple misfire priced items/pricers. It's everything now, and sadly won't be back. For the thrifters out there, go Goodwill, Savers, and Facebook marketplace. read more

Awful experience!!! I was told by an employee at the register that since they didn't have fitting rooms I could try on my items at home and bring them back if they didn't work out and get my money back as long as I bring it back in 7 days. Turns out their return policy of 7 days means nothing because you don't get your money back. Such an awful experience to go back in to try to get my money back.. which I thought the process would have been a breeze but I was misinformed by one of their own employees... now I have $50 sitting at a thrift store that I don't even know if I want to ever come back to. The only evidence I have of store credit is the amount written on a piece of receipt paper and an employees name. Which isn't professional at all. Visited this thrift store for the first time the other day and all I can say is wow!!!! This store is literally so clean it's incredible. They had a little vintage shop up in the front and it was just amazing as it sounds. The prices seem a little steep but I would rather spend that and get nice quality stuff. I went in with my son,he found a jacket.He had to put the jacket back because of how expensive it was.The employee's are rude straight to your face.Ithas happened to me over and over. So why do I keep coming back? The store itself is fine but the return policy is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. No dressing rooms to try things on, and only one week to return items for something of the same exact value. Not your money back, not store credit for the future, something within the week for exactly the same price. I love thrifting for the sustainability aspect, but I am not going to spend money on already higher-priced clothes with no chance to know if it will fit and no chance to get my money back. I used to enjoy this store, but prices have gotten laughably ridiculous. While shopping today, I saw many used/incomplete/dirty items that were marked considerably more than their retail value. While checking out, I mentioned to the clerk that I usually fill my cart, but the prices are much higher than I've ever seen. As thrift stores go, City Thrift is a pretty good option. This location is new, so some growing pains are to be expected. The lay out is very similar to Savers. I did find some items that I thought the price was better than Savers though, and they had more inventory of some particular items than Savers. That could be because they're new and don't have as much foot traffic yet. The store was clean, and was a decent size. The check out lanes were a bit confusing. I think there were three registers in one lane, so the line gets long pretty quick because everyone is waiting in the same lane. Items were marked, but whoever is writing the price down needs to write neater. I couldn't tell what some of the prices were because the writing was so sloppy. I also couldn't tell if things that were in sets were priced altogether or separately. read more

I'm not sure why this company has the word "Thrift" in its name, because for these prices I didn't leave feeling like I "thrifted" anything. The prices are way too high, and when I was checking out I got to talking to the cashier and she whispered to me that this place was way too expensive and that the manager figured out what vintage was and started a whole vintage section, pricing things up even higher than the rest of the store. For a good idea, a regular non designer cardigan is priced at around $8.99. Something like this is 2.99 at Goodwill. Buyer beware. As for me, I'll be taking my little legs, and my wallet, back to Savers and Goodwill. read more

Let's weight the pros and cons of this store. Its new, its clean and for the most part its very neat. I found what I was looking for because the variety is great. I got some clothes and of course you can't try stuff on because people think you're going to contaminate clothes just by trying them on when you're touching everything when you look at it so I wasted money on pants that didn't even fit me and they wouldn't let me exchange it even though it took me like 15 to 30 minutes just to find something to exchange it those people are very rude and not very nice they should've told me that in the first place (last chance items) that I wouldn't have been able to exchange it not right in the middle of exchanging something!!!!!! read more

I always find something good at city thrift. We love the $1 rack and there's always a great selection. I was there yesterday and some staff members even entertained my twins so I could shop in quiet for a few minutes! Great, great people. I've shopped both locations. On Antioch for years/ Shawnee since it opened. I WAS a fan until they started jacking the prices way HIGH! It's probably due to the periodic 50% sale, which is now the only day to get a deal- and even that's questionable. They promote their 'UP TO 30% OFF' coupons for donations, so I loaded up my truck. However, the guy gives me ONE- yes only 1- 5% coupon for my 3 kitchen bags FULL of stuff. I go in and find a little bag of funky odds-n-edds I had donated for $10.99! And that was just a smidge of what I'd given. Thanks for scratching my back City Thrift! Heading back to Savers for my charitable giving- the prices are high there too, but at least their discount incentive is not an insult! read more
