Terrible experience. Last Sunday (28 Feb) I tried to board the 11.40 AM bus at stop 18 (by the Railway Station) and was brusquely stopped by the driver, who glared at me and said in a very rude and disdainful tone, "In England, we let people off buses first." I am of East Asian heritage - perhaps that explains where his comment was coming from. To be clear, there were two lanes at the door (I had assumed one to board and the other to alight, as I have ridden a bus or two before in my life), and I was absolutely not in anyone's way. I merely wanted to get on the bus to buy tickets, as we were traveling with my father-in-law who is wheelchair bound and is not able to stand for long after folding up his wheelchair. A simple "Please give us a couple of minutes to get everyone off the bus" would have sufficed if this is bus policy - there was just absolutely no need for racism or rudeness. The driver also did not offer any assistance with the wheelchair (for example, he did not lower the ramp which I am told is installed on all of these buses). Really put a damper on an otherwise lovely special family weekend in this beautiful city. I have written to the company to let them know this happened but have received NO response. read more
