City of BH does everything they can to get your money - even before the speed cameras were set up! I remember years ago when I got pulled over for something minor - I was on my way to get a copy of my insurance (the apartments I lived at the time didn't have a fax set up so I had to go to Kinko's). Suffice it to say, even though he was going to let me go, he needed my insurance card so I still got ticketed. The cop was nice though - and told me to just show the copy at the court house. I did. The lady I talked to was rude and abrupt! She said, "You know you can't get insurance on the same day you got your ticket!!!" I looked at her and said, "I can if I bought the insurance PRIOR to getting pulled over! Look at the TIME it was effective!" The time stamp was around 8/9 AM and the time I got pulled over was around 1 PM. She snatched the insurance card and ticket back and as she walked away, said, "I need to check this!" The other lady she referred to looked at everything and said, "Well, yeah, she was insured. She just didn't have a copy. Dismiss the ticket." BOO YAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Ive had a weird experience at the one in the south side. Long story short I bought a place here in town last year. So as I started to register my vehicle from out of state, I began my journey to get all my cars registered in Texas. So I had an irritating experience at the south side one. The lady at counter told me one thing then when I came back a few months later everything sh3 told was wrong and I wasted months getting everything together. When I returned to a different person told myball that I brought was not needed.. So in short if you have business to get done DONT go to the south side one.

The place is well-kept (it should be, for what I'm paying them!!!) and they blast the a/c, which helps cool hot tempers. I think it was this article that first brought my attention to the area: http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/A-new-Little-Italy-imagined-for-downtown-S-A-4889204.php "In the late 1800s, Italian immigrants arrived here from Spezzano della Sila, a small town in southern Italy. The construction of highways and urban renewal efforts, which turned houses into parking lots, displaced the neighborhood decades ago. The [Christopher Columbus] Italian society, established in 1890, debuted its plans for Little Italy three years ago: 10 buildings, boasting around 75 to 100 new residential units, on a 3.5-acre site. It envisions shops -- for cappuccino, baked goods and maybe Italian bikes -- as occupying the bottom floors of the new buildings." Looking over at the park, I can see this being a special place for great events with bands and dancing on the large concrete patio which also includes restrooms... tall cypress trees have been planted, fountains, and of course the society's namesake, a Christopher Columbus statue. Several times a year, The CCIS hosts a spaghetti and meatball dinner as a fundraiser (plus they also teach FREE Italian language classes.) I haven't been to the Catholic church yet, but spending the day in Little Italy might be a good way to spend a Sunday... church, spaghetti dinner, followed by a walk in the park then down to San Pedro Creek next door.

I like how this place is named after Colombo, the TV cop from the 70s, and benefits the police! The meeting hall is two stories, with plenty of room to hold a party or an Italian themed party. Molto Bene! This place is the Little Italy for San Antonio! The Colombus Society and building is all connected to a nice park with lots of brickwork and places to sit and watch the traffic go by. They've previously had to cover up the statue to Christopher Columbus in the front of this place on Indigenous Peoples Day to prevent it from being vandalized again. There's a large homeless crowd that likes to hang out in the front of this place at times. It is a good place to start off a tour of the San Pedro Springs Cultural Park, as it backs right up to the start of it.

So, I'm a HUGE history person. I love reading biographies and love everything about Texas history…read morein general. Just happened to be in Seguin today; came across a fantastic monument to Juan Seguin in the center of town near the old County Courthouse. Seguin, to use "the youngins'" newfangled terms, was a complete BAD A$$! He served in the Siege of Bexar, defended settlers after the Alamo fell, served as mayor of San Antonio, and served as a Senator for the Republic of Texas. Those are only some of his accomplishments... Given all that, his burial place is REALLY DISAPPOINTING. First, bear in mind Seguin did not die in Texas; he died in Mexico and was exhumed and buried in the current location in 1976. Given that, what the hell was the city thinking when they chose this spot? When I went today, it was nothing like the pictures online. The grass wasn't maintained - very overgrown. The flags flying at the site were worn and tattered. The City of Seguin is the caretaker of the site, and it is, quite frankly, embarrassing. Juan Seguin deserves better. In my opinion, they chose the wrong location to re-bury him and the site is just too plain. I don't expect an eternal flame a la Kennedy, but this site needs some work... Glad I now know more about Seguin, but really disappointed in how he's honored...
