There are lots of nice antique stores and restaurants along the main street of this town. It's home to the Olmos Circle, which is an eyesore of a turnabout in the middle of McCullough and Olmos. It used to be a fountain, but that plan nearly turned deadly several times. The city has its own fire department, trash pickup, city government, and police department. The new city hall was paid for by speeding tickets. Beware driving down McCullough. The speed limit is 30, and they'll bust you for doing a mile over it. In the side streets, speed limit is now 25! They'll get you- so just watch out! It's a beautiful neighborhood with sprawling mansions and giant lots, and makes a great neighborhood to go jogging in.

You can drive straight down McCullough Ave and be in the heart of Olmos Park. (Be care of the posted speed limit signs). There is a roundabout circle on McCullough Ave. that was probably designed for when the city first came about. It seems out of place now in modern times. They probably had in mind a constant flow of traffic without having people to stop. Not a lot of people know how to use these things these days. Just slow down into the circle, look left and yield. There's plenty of little boutique shops that dot this small "city" and a park but that's about it. Enjoy your day!

I also already had issues with this app because 1) I didn't fill the app out right. 2) the chick SAPD had as a detective on my app is an ego driven moron, Jessica alvoet. We discussed my app ad nauseam and she acknowledged many others submit lackluster apps so I'd need to correct mine. Clearly that's too much for her ego to handle bc she seemed like she had a rod shoved up hers during those interactions correcting the app. I submitted the second app 8/25/25 and interviewed with her in November. While I'm able to set aside animosity towards ppl, views and the like during a professional encounter, she is wholly incapable of separating her feelings from these matters and proved SAPD has no good reason to keep her as a det. We sat down and discussed my apps for 3 hours. If you can't fully scrutinize 2 apps in 3 hrs, ur awful at ur job and should be reassigned elsewhere. Part of the reason she took 3 hrs was bc she beat a dead horse asking why I lied about certain things, which is where another breakdown occurred. I didn't lie. She evidently can't comprehend there can be multiple reasons for a given action. To my best recollection, she claimed I was guilty of misrepresenting my arrest record and therefore not taking responsibility for my misdeeds. I asked how I'm responsible for being arrested when I did nothing wrong. I asked how I'm culpable when the arrests were constantly bogus. An example, I was arrested for violating probation in TN. When I went to court, I took the evidence that I fully complied with the court order, and the charges were dropped. Her conclusion was I refuse to take responsibility. How am I responsible when the probation idiot in TN proved he's a moron. Maybe these 2 morons are related, I guess. Ultimately I planned for the interview not to take more than 3 hours and had to return my car so my friend could go to work, otherwise he'd be fired. So I told Jess that and she threw a hiss fit and actually tried debating me on the issue. I didn't realize keeping ur word was such a problem for SAPD. Had I known that having integrity was an issue with them, I probably wouldn't have applied. She threatened to close my app and my point to her was I had a commitment to honor and even reminded her that we had been going at it more than 3 hours! If that's a problem for u, maybe ur the issue, not me. I left and after a couple months of silence, I got the notice that they've permanently barred me from SAPD for lying on my app. Now, the military has opened its arms for me. Imagine that, the feds are happy to take me but a lowly city PD says I lie too much! Far as I can tell the jokes write themselves! Clearly Jess shouldn't be a pig w SAPD. She is why ppl disparage pigs constantly.

Update January 2023…read more I hate, hate having to mail anything from this location. I do it because I am essentially an optimist so I always think, "Maybe this time it will be different." NO I dropped a self-addressed pre-paid envelope in one of the mailboxes in the parking lot. (There are three.) That envelope, containing an endorsed check, took 10 days to be delivered to its destination near UTSA. My New Year's resolution: do not put your trust in this branch of the USPS. It always ends up becoming a problem.

I glanced at the hours & confirmed they are Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm. I'll need to check Saturdays the next time I come back & will attach a photo. They do have a parcel drop bin for those who pay online & print their label at home. However, it was marked as out of order & informs customers to leave pre-paid parcels at the retail counter. There was only one gentleman at the counter when I entered right at 8 & the nice employee informed me I could just leave my box on the counter & she would collect it. I've used drop bins in the past or left parcels on the counter at other locations & it took FOREVER to get scanned in. (COUGH COUGH - I'm talking about the USPS kiosk/tiny office at the very back of the Atascocita Ace Hardware!!!). The particular parcel I dropped off at THIS office was scanned in within a half hour!

Everything came out quickly, the service was smooth, and the whole menu felt approachable. I enjoyed the crawfish roll, which is a really nice alternative to the crab roll. Almost every time I see crawfish that's been peeled be someone else on a menu, I get pretty excited. Anyway, it served with the made-in-house hot sauce mixed with the drawn butter. Yummy. The fries were especially good, and dessert really surprised us. The carrot cake is very mild on the spice side, which actually let the textures shine, especially the brittle on top. It was incredibly light, crunchy, and honestly the best part of the dessert. We also appreciated how efficient everything was. We had a relaxed lunch, never felt rushed, and still managed to be in and out within about an hour and a half. Overall, a great experience and a great choice to eat here based on the efficiency and menu options for the pickier people in our group,

Family-style meal for our event, but this only made the interaction that much better. Their famous fried chicken was fab (probably that pickle brine) and the tenderloin melted in my mouth. Emily was a fantastic server and knowledgeable about the food, drinks, the restaurant, and the historic area of the Pearl. She made the meal even more enjoyable than it already was.
