I don't care if they're not traditional or not, these damn sammiches are killer and will keep you coming back for more. Trust me, been handing them part of my paychecks for years now. They pack the amoroso roll with sliced rib eye and your choice of cheese and toppings. One bite and you'll be hooked. The small size is plenty but if you're starving, get the regular as it's pretty big and enough for two people. I have yet to see anyone order much less eat large but I do want to witness that spectacle. With multiple locations around town, they're relative accessible to everyone. The meat is thin sliced/chopped ribeye, soft, juicy, w virtually no fat or gristle on it. It seemed a double portion of meat, mixed w chopped grilled onions & mushrooms. We ordered w/o green peppers, but usually comes with it. Everything is cut the same size so every bite is a mixture of juicy flavors along with white melted American cheese underneath. The roll is toasted w just the right amount of juice from the meat to make it soft but not mushy. The fries? Perfect combination of herbed Parmesan cheese & hot, crispy hand cut potatoes. Plenty of topping...looked like it had snowed on them. Delicious! We've driven by many times, but given my experience w tasteless stringy fatty cheesesteaks in the past, figured this would be the same. No way! This was the real thing! This place used to be t spot to get fresh and hot cheesesteaks and other goodies. Their fries used to be crispy and well seasoned. This wasn't the case on my last visit. The cheesesteak was good, but the kids meal I got for my little one and the side of fries was not. The fries were full of grease and not crispy at all. The hot dog seemed old and the bun was hard. Very underwhelming for $8 kids meal. The side of fries were similar to the greasy ones pictured below. Just be sure to ask for fresh fries if you stop by. I hosted a mini woman's workshop where we did yoga (streamed from YouTube onto the TVs), ate great food catered from Malik's Philly's, guest speaker, and arts and crafts at the end. Booking was easy and was able to reach out at any time with questions. Rob (owner of the Rose Bush) called me a week prior to the event to give me the details I needed to stream the video. Vince (manager at Malik's) was super helpful with the food order and with set-up. I was able to place my order the day before through messenger. They added a door to make the event space even more private from the public. We had our own restroom, plenty of space for decor and drinks, and even a separate table for sweets. I may have been too harsh in last review about how shredded beef was to not just go 5 stars. This is hands down the best cheesesteak in town. After trying others and coming back here, I kinda appreciate more how thinly they slice their excellent quality beef and work it all into the ingredients you pick on the griddle before putting it in the bread. There's no big chucks here, everything just melts together in harmony. And so many people sneer at having Whiz as the cheese, but that's how it was originally done. I've branched out and tried a couple other options here, but keep going back to the San Antonio with Whiz and jalapenos. But there's so many options for cheese and add-ons and they have vegetarian options available. This is the #1 place to go if you want a cheesesteak sandwich in SA. I like that i can order at a kiosk but the employees came out to check in with us. We started with the parmesan fries - they tasted very fresh and the seasoning was yummy but I prefer crispier fries. Have to say I've never had anything bad to say about Malik's but this past weekend was not a great experience. We went to the 1604 Cantina location with a group of friends. We've been going here forever and I always get the same thing. This time I ordered my usual , a large elder eats. My wife ordered the same but the regular size and then we got just a regular Philly for my son and a few orders of fries. When we get our food, my wife commented, which is which. They both came in the same size container and looked identical in size and toppings. I didn't make a big deal about it and just ate my food. The wait times were about 30 minutes so as we were finishing, our friend got their order. They also order a large elder eats Philly however theirs was HUGE. A noticeable difference. It wasn't in a container but was wrapped in foil instead. My wife immediately told me, they gave you the wrong size. Our friends Philly is what I'm used to getting when we visit so it became apparent that we did get the wrong size. No big deal, I was already full but I thought I'd go and ask for the difference in cash back. Just a couple of bucks. I tipped as well ( prior to getting the food) so I wasn't going to be out another few bucks on top of it. I went to the window and the person that took my order was not there. Instead the cook was at the window. I explained that I got a regular size but had ordered the large. He immediately said no, you go the large. By this time it had been about 40 minutes since I got our food and they were busy given the wait times. Before I could even ask for the 2 bucks he said I remember your order and I know you go the large. He then tried to lecture me on the physics of bread shrinkage.I just said, okay, and walked away. So, why? Why piss people off over 2 bucks. I tipped about 6 bucks so that I could get good service and food. The food itself is covered by the 60.00 I paid for our meals. The tip was for the service which was not great. This is exactly why businesses should NOT be asking for tips prior to putting out the product. At the end of the day, I just think this is bad business. I know I was right. I mean I'm visually looking at the difference and it was big enough to make me get up and go ask about it. So, not only will I not be going back, there goes my 60 bucks x 4-5 times I visit per year. We also went with 4 other couples, 3 of which ordered from Malik's and saw what happened. They won't be going back either. I also, blog and review quite a bit and I will be sharing my experience with others (just like I do when things are great) All over 2 bucks. SMH. read more

It was pretty good. I went with some friends and we all enjoyed what we got. The biggest downfall was that we were sitting outside. For reference, this is a food truck. It was just me and my friends and we made it there at around 11:45 in the afternoon. We had a class at 12:15 and we were able to order, get our food, eat our food, and make it back to class within a timely matter. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the food and receipt (chalk it up to enjoying the moment) but I got bacon ranch philly cheese steak, some fries (of some variety I cannot remember) and two waters.
