This park is at one of the awkward intersections of Seattle. Truly a mess of traffic, city fowl, and people of all walks of life. Lots of people will focus on the homeless people in the area because that's who generally hangs out there, but if you work downtown, chances are you've been right through here during a commute through the city. Obviously a stone's throw away from city hall, which means security here is pretty good, but I may actually avoid this place super late at night. You may not get kidnapped or assaulted, but you may accidentally bump into someone trying to sleep on the streets in a darker section of the park.
They regularly clean this area but with the mass of traffic in the area, it is not likely to ever be completely clean. Some days it smells like urine, and some days it smells like that they use to clean chemicals off the sidewalk. It would be great if we could raise taxes somehow to pay for a public bath house maybe a little ways away from here. It would raise everyone's quality of life if you find a way to make it work. This park definitely will sour your mood on the state of our society, motivate you to do something about it, and overwhelm you with the daunting problems we face in this city. A great place to get asked to bum a smoke, but also a great place to potentially bum a smoke if you're into that sort of thing. Overall, not a scary place. It just looks scary. read more
