Steve and I were in Seattle's International District a few weekends ago and I had the community gardens that are within Kobe Terrace (there is a separate Yelp entry for that) in my Yelp bookmarks. I didn't know anything about Kobe Terrace so it was a nice bonus as we were coming here just to check out the community gardens. The wavy chairs down at the bottom of the park is cool as well as all the woodwork around the bottom entrance which is right next to those chairs. As we went up the stairs that reach the top of terrace and through the community gardens we enjoyed all of the greenery and the informational plaques as we made our way. At the top of Kobe Terrace there is a beautiful stone lantern at the top. We definitely took some pictures of it. Apparently going off of some of the pictures other reviewers have made it's beautiful here in the Spring as many of the trees are blooming trees, it looks like cherry blossoms to be specific and it looks so amazing and enchanting strolling through those trees from those pictures so that's definitely something to keep in mind! read more

It is tricky to review Kobe Terrace. It is a tidy little park that if you come in late March, maybe early April, it is heavenly. The place is FILLED with cherry blossom trees. Sure, UW has them, but this place doesn't have the crowds. We were there in late March. Some of the petals have fallen. With every breeze, more petals would fall as though it's raining petals. In Japan, the favorite viewing of cherry blossoms is not necessarily at the peak of the blossoms, but it's just a bit past the prime, exactly at this time of falling petals. We stumbled on this time at Kobe Terrace, and it was just the best. The ground is white-ish with the infinite petals. They also have wave benches and a lantern from Kobe, Japan. So, what's the catch? Well, this park attracts 'others', too. You are very likely sharing space with them. Hey, it's a public park; they can sit on the benches, too. With every breeze, you might pick up extra scent. Enough said. Just be mentally prepared. An Asian gentleman was doing tai chi at the park. Good for him. I am happy to see a local enjoying the park. A group of five young ladies were happily snapping photos of the cherry blossoms. Yay for them. I will likely return during cherry blossoms season. I doubt I would return during other times of the year. It barely feels safe in the daytime because this park is in a corner, backed up against I-5, away from any visible crowds or street traffic. It's always shaded from much visible light. There are several low-income housings nearby, but very few choose to spend time at this park. It is fine if you are in a group. Side note: Adjacent to the park is the Danny Woo Community Garden, tended to by several local communities. read more

Kobe Terrace and Danny Woo's Community Garden are just up the hill from my work a few blocks. Been trying to find alternatives than going to the over crowded UW display of trees. Love the touches her like the Lantern and winding pathway. Currently some beautiful cherry blossoms blooming. read more

Read about the cherry blossoms and rolling benches. Cool park at the top of 7th Ave. parking was easy to find. Half the park was amazing w multi level walkways lines w cherry trees. On the day (April 10) trees were in full bloom. Was a great place to see pink flowers line trees and walkways. Was an amazing site. The other side of the park was dedicated to vegetable gardens. Seemed like a maze community gardening plots. Walls were made from shipping pallets and chicken wire. It was a bit messy. Nice place for a 30 minute walk. read more

Lantern, Gift From Kobe, Japan The Kobe Terrace Park, part of the Seattle Parks Dept., is located just West of I-5 on the North end of the International District. This Park borders the North and East sides of the Danny Woo International District Community Garden. The cool feature here for me is Lantern. You just can't take a bad photo of this. This park has some seating and walking trails where you will see (from N to S): guy walking dog, girl on smoke break, someone meditating with a pop, husband and wife tai chi exercising, man resting with beer, two smelly backpackers. The Lantern was a gift to Seattle in July, 1976 from Kobe to commemorate our bicentennial and the completion of the Park. A plaque reads "May the lantern shed light between the peoples of Kobe and Seattle forever." Pretty hidden and off the radar, park is open 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM. read more

I really loved visiting this little park in the International District of Seattle. I love the little trails that made you feel like you are not in a city. Great views and really cool community gardens/composting. This was being used by many for relaxing or exercising. A cute park that I had happen on during my trip to Seattle. read more

Disappointing. Loud and unkept. What should have been a shiny cool spot was a sad, forgotten corner. I was really expecting a quiet spot to eat lunch where maybe there was a bit of work by the locals. This was more of someone's ambition that looked unfunded. I would not recommend stopping here if visiting Seattle. read more

This is a beautiful slice of green in the ID. The only reason that I am not giving a 5 Star is the place seems to also double as a urinal/toilet for the homeless, witnessed a couple scenes that I rather not have in my head...Anyhooooooooo,,,, They have a real cool bench area that flows in waves down the hill and the cedar they make the benches out of still smells like new...The Kobe Lantern ( A gift to the city of Seattle from the city of Kobe, Japan )...Is a pretty cool slice of uniqueness. I can easily see myself enjoying a tasty Banh Mi here in the future... read more

What a random park in the city. My pops lives next door and I've walked through here - don't recommend doing so after dark! The city needs to spend some more time in cleaning and maintaining this park, I recall years ago when it was fresh, clean, and well maintained. This is a strolling park, not a picnic park. I didn't even have any idea it was there... as much as I've walked around the ID for years. The front end gate on the Panama Hotel side has awesome wave benches... Love it, love it. Just up and beyond this are patches of greenery... which include overgrown blackberries (watch out for them when you're going through stairs!).. Then you've got patches of... patch... I suppose they're planting vegetables in them, you might even get a whiff of fertilizer. Moving up beyond those... is the nice strolling area.. With that awesome lantern for pictures.. and a cute avenue with benches. You can walk over the wee hill to the fence that separates the park from I-5 and scream your wee little heart out (No, we didn't actually do that..) Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool to find oneself wandering to... And a nice place for just sitting around, enjoying the hillside view. Lantern + wave benches = definite love. I'd be happy if they could come closer together. By the way, did they mean to have dull blue glass scattered on the stones on the lower part? read more

One thing to note about this park. Its also a garden, a very Asian themed garden. Many of the residence from around the park have leased ground to grow just about anything and everything that is growable, however its usually just vegetables. There are several places that open up and have some benches, but you'll be hard pressed to find any open green areas with grass for a picnic. Not bad thing, I find it quite relaxing to walk around, almost feels like you are in a jungle. If you would like a sojourn from the city, pick one of the many paths at Kobe Terrace and see where it takes you. read more

Walk up the hill and visit this cute little park in the International District. It's Japanese style and there are plenty of trees, gardens and landscaping. The trails are interesting and if you keep walking up to the top you get to see Safeco Field, Centurylink Field, Mount Rainier and parts of downtown. Only downside is, there seems to be no restroom, at least I couldn't find one. read more

Kobe Terrace is a really cute little park minus the major drug deals that were going on behind the bushes. Sketch-o-rama. It was super nice for about half an hour but once it started to fill up with tweakers eyeing our stuff we took our bahn mis elsewhere. It's a damn shame. read more

When i visited the park, I was a bit disappointed by its unsavory appearance. It didn't look clean plus the gardens, while it is a great idea for the poorer people to grow their own food, doesn't look very clean. I wish the people worked on the cleanness and leave their tools locked up. somewhere. Plus the little trail on the top isn't all that impressive. there was a homeless guy sleeping on one of the benches so I avoided him. It can use an improvement... read more

This lovely little hillside garden doesn't seem to be visited by many people other than locals. If you're in the International District it's worth a stop to see the large stone lantern gifted by Kobe, Japan and the cute P-Patch located in the park. It's a peaceful stop and on a good day you can see Mt. Rainier. read more
