City Hall may look like a carbuncle next to the glass atrium of the Forum in Norwich. But actually it's a pretty interesting building. Obviously as the central house of the City council, it's the place you'll come to to get parking permits, pay council taxes and settle disputes with traffic wardens But it has an interesting history and anyone who's been on the battlements tour at the castle will tell you. First, the clock tower is only there because they ran out of money and couldn't afford to finish the east wing with the money they had. Second, it was called the marmalade building when it went up, because of the garish colour of the bricks. And third it had a famous fan. Hitler. Apparantly he loved it. It was going to be his base of ops when he took over England. And looking at it now, you can sort of see why. read more
