The hubby and I arrived at the Blakeney House and were warmed greeted by the host who showed us to our room. The room was immaculately clean and looked exactly like the pics on the website. The house and our room were adorable! We visited Blakeney House during the off season and received a very reasonable nightly rate. The daily breakfast was delicious. The B&B is a short (5-10 mins) walk from a gorgeous coastal walk and within easy walking distance of all the local restaurants and pubs. Blakeney House is a short drive from the popular ferries that provide tours to see the seals. Blakeney House is an absolutely adorable B&B in a great little town. Book quickly--although considering my experience there, I can't imagine that they have much availability!

The backdrop to which are the characteristic reedbeds of the Broads, a great place to sit and relax in the summer, but we didn't venture out in late February! Inside, the hotel has a definite sense of style, akin to hotels of the 1930s as seen in episodes of Poirot. We were only staying in Norfolk for a short time but we did enjoy our cups of Earl Grey tea. The menu for the evening meals is done on a day on day basis, prices ranging from around £10 for a main. When we return to Norfolk we will definitely be partaking in their cuisine, as the menu was both interesting and varied. As in the name the George has a variety of rooms in which you can stay, with several advertised as having favourable views of the unique local countryside.

The decor was excellent, without being over-the-top, the choice of food on the set menu would please most palates, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Coffee could be consumed at the table in the dining room on the ground floor, or in the lounge upstairs. The slight difference in height made a large difference in the view, and we could even see a strip[ of sea. I believe that we managed to pick one of the few sunny days that Blakeney enjoys, so I found the whole experience most enjoyable.

Behind is the ancient little village of Cley-next-the-sea, with its windy little high street, quaint, traditional, some trendy and arty little shops and cobble stoned buildings. You can stay at the windmill as a resident, just stop there for a cup of something to keep you going, browse the little shop or just gawp at its magnificence. The coastal footpath runs right through the middle of the courtyard enclave around the base, so no excuse for missing it. Excellent.
