We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. Every show opens with a little performance but we were lucky enough to see a silent film which means that the organist live scores the entire film just as it would have been done in the 20s ! Such a special experience, and a must for any fans of music, film, and LA history.

I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month.

There is also a sculpture garden at the Civic Center as well as plenty of free parking. City Hall is where you go for such things as obtaining a business license, getting permits for building or remodeling, paying your water bill or getting information on recreation services. It's also here that you will find the City Council Chambers where meetings are held. There is a dolphin fountain in front of City Hall that children play in on hotter days. The Sheriff Station also includes the Community Safety office where you can obtain special permits for overnight parking in residential areas. The Library is amazing with themed sections and an entryway that includes a huge aquarium. Words can't do it justice and for a better overview you can check out this video: https://youtu.be/uFfWmuTvpm0 Many events, such as the Veterans Day ceremony, are held here throughout the year. With the nice grounds, a variety of sculptures and fountains it's a pleasing place just to walk around.

Used to be able to call Sheriff Dept and give info they'd provide a temp overnight parking permit. Now they've automated with online application and I've spent 3 hours trying to obtain an overnight parking permit. It's not working due to software issues & there's no one to assist after business hours. I Called Cerritos Sheriff and they said if you get a ticket take it up with parking enforcement. You'd think in an emergency situation for parking the city would have a go to plan for it's citizens. Very Disappointed how insensitive the City of Cerritos has turned into when it comes to assisting it's citizens in emergency circumstances.

The sound of the water and the dolphin family sculpture is so tranquil, and because I really connect with dolphins, it honestly felt like the perfect welcome. Right when you walk inside, the artwork in the glass displays pulls you in. It's creative, organized, and just visually nice to take in. As you wander further in, the large aquarium connected to the children's section is another standout -- it adds this calm, magical feel to the space. I grabbed a magazine and found a quiet window seat, and those 30 minutes of zero calls, zero texts, zero noise? Pure heaven. I didn't realize how much I missed just sitting and reading without a single interruption. Before heading out, I checked out the psychology and cooking sections, and it reminded me how much I've always loved libraries and bookstores. The whole visit made me want to get a library card and come back once a month just to enjoy that peaceful moment. I could've spent hours just checking out each section. If you want a quiet, beautiful place to escape for a bit, this library is it.
