Great food, good service and family owned! I love this place. It has always been consistent food and clean.

I've been a long time customer of City Dragon's and have always enjoyed their cooking. However, this time I checked the web site and noticed that they had "Free Delivery" as stated on the top left of the site. The order was attached to DoorDash, and when I completed the order, there was a $15.00 surcharge placed on my order of $23.00. To say this is excessive is a massive understatement. When I called the restaurant about the issue, they stated that the customer has to deal with DoorDash, but there isn't an easy way to contact them. City Dragon offered to cancel the order, but I wanted what we ordered. I tried to cancel the delivery but DoorDash website said it was too late. This isn't a great sit down place to entertain friends as it's really more of a hole in the wall. The decor is not for fancy eaters. So 1 less star just for that. Wish I could give a half star more. But the food is, and has been, always excellent here. I'm a simple man and Panda Express is good for my fast-food-Chinese fix but City Dragon is a gem of authentic style Chinese food in Poway. You might pay more here but you'll definitely have leftovers and they'll taste great. Plus they don't cheap out on the amount of proteins in their entrees. I've been coming to this Chinese food joint for quite some time since moving to Poway and it really is a gem. The family running it are the epitome of what you wood expect when you go to a mom and pop shop. Always looking to please and have their best smile on for the customers. The food is always on point and hits the spot no matter the order. I've rarely sat and eaten there, so pickup is only what I've experienced. And it's always ready by the time I arrive within the timeframe given on the phone. I even debated tonight with my partner if we should try a new place and she reminded me about how great City Dragon is. So sad to report that this once good Chinese food strip mall eatery has chosen to ruin their food rather then raise their prices. Their Wor Won Ton soup I've enjoyed for years. Ordered over the phone and went to pick the food up 20 minutes later. It was ready for me. I didn't get what I ordered. They had the food placed in plastic bags with the handles tied together. I thought about opening them but didn't want to seem distrustful. I should have opened the bags and boxes. I ordered 4 entrees and got 3 of the 4 I ordered. I got a 4th random chicken entree and not Teriyaki chicken that I ordered. The price was more than what I expected. The House Special Shrimp was very tasty and I would recommend that entree. Aww Hell no. It's not the best Chinese food in the area. Go to Wild Ginger, pick up stix, Hong Kong Xpress, ANYTHING in RB instead. Heck, even WRONG's wok is better. The problem here is the poor quality of the food. Chicken, Rice, that horrible egg roll, and that worthless won ton. Nothing said fresh, quality, or "I'll be back". The Kung Pao was impotent.. Decided to give this place a try because of the high ratings. I assumed that it was a fast food Chinese restaurant, the kind where you get to pick what kind of combos you want from a buffet setup. But its simply a regular sit down restaurant. They have quite a huge menu offering plates with all kinds of meats and veggies. Appetizers, Soup, Fried Rice, Lo Mein, Chow Mein, Moo Shu, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Shrimp. Lunch Specials before 3pm. Won Ton Soup $4.55 Soup flavor was pretty bland. Seemed like they were cheap on the chicken flavor stock. Lots of random vegetables used as fillers. Snowpeas, bamboo, cabbage, chesnuts. Wontons barely had any meat in them. Shrimp Lo Mein $7.15 The noodles weren't soggy and had good flavor to them and was the only dish that I kind of liked. But it probably tasted good because it was drenched in oily sauce. What we didn't like the most about this dish was the portion size. It's not enough to fill a full grown man or woman. Garlic Chicken $8.85 I mistakenly thought this was garlic fried chicken, my bad. Otherwise I would never order this dish. It was just chicken, green onion, chestnuts, and zuchinni stir fry. The food is well coated in the sauce but the sauce is pretty plain. And the rice that they serve here is super dry. Overall, it was a cheap dinner. Got three items for about $23. But I would rather pay more for better Chinese food. Worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life! The vegetables smelled so bad.They didn't rinse their bamboo shoots so the entree smelled so stinky. My family kept trying to find out what on their plates stunk and it was their veggies.Their sweet and sour pork doesn't even have pineapple in it. The meat pieces were like rubber with a soggy crust . Their shrimp was not fresh at all. No fortune cookies either. Their steamed rice was good, Coke cola was good but that was it. NASTY & SAD. Hadn't had Chinese in years other than Panda (hahahahha) and recalled wanted Xhicken and Cashews. Ordered that, Sweet and sour Pork, and the steamed dumplings. Reasonable prices. Visited on Christmas Eve. Although they were very busy, they were lovely and the food prepared quickly. Delicious and reliable.

Lunch special is $6.65!!! Service is great, the older lady at the register was super kind and even brought my food to my table because no one else was there at 2:45pm. Cashew chicken tasted great and I'm definitely coming back!!! Place is clean too, which is always a plus. Overall, great food, great prices, and great service. Rolled the dice tonight and ended up with City Dragon, this little hidden Gem has been feeding the City of Poway for more than 18 years. There was no one in the restaurant when we came in tonight but it was only 8:05pm so we had about 45 minutes to stuff our face before we had to leave to make our movie. Menu super simple and easy to understand (see picture) the couple here took our order for 4 people and had the food all out in under 8-10 minutes. We purchased Broccoli and Beef, Orange Chicken, Miso Soup, Egg Flower (similar to Egg Drop) and some chicken fried rice. I brought my 3 toughest food critics with me tonight, and all three gave the thumbs up approval tonight. We will definitely be bringing mom back here, all the food tasted great, warning soup comes out HOT, buyer beware. The couple serving us did a great job, definitely a cozy and welcoming place, the atmosphere definitely would be a great place to take a date. All drinks are bottled or canned. read more

Good Chinese spot in the middle of Poway near Aldi's. Service is good and the food is tasty. I usually go with the Lunch Special, which comes with protein, rice, wontons and an eggroll with sauce. Portions are also a good size. I call ahead and it's always ready in ten minutes. Only downside is the spicy foods aren't really spicy, but that's my personal preference. This is a small, family business and you'll usually see the wife working the front and husband making grub in the back. Friendly folks, glad to support them during the debacle that is 2020. read more

If there was an option for 0 stars I would've chose that one. The owner and staff that work here are scammers and thieves!!! DO NOT COME HERE! This restaurant was next to a trunk or treat me and my family attended and my oldest son needed something to drink because he was coughing so hard from the bounce house in the parking lot. So my husband ran inside this restaurant to purchase two waters and Ling rang him up and told him the total was 2 dollars and some change. My husband gave Ling his debit card and she charged him and he signed the receipt and rushed back outside to the trunk or treat. My husband didn't get the receipt because he didn't think it was necessary for a 3$ purchase. Seems normal right? Guess again because the following Monday we noticed a charge on our bank account for $45 from this establishment. I immediately contacted my bank and filed a dispute because we did not eat at this restaurant! My husband had only purchased two waters which is damn near not even close to $45. I also contacted the restaurant and spoke to Ling about what had happened and she admitted it was their mistake and to come in and get the refund. So when I drove down there to the restaurant and it was a completely different story of course. She denied saying she was going to give me a refund and that we purchased food at the restaurant and I reassured her that we did not eat there that my husband had only walked in to purchase two waters considering we had just had dinner before heading over to the trunk or treat. The owner who's name is Anne came out from the back after watching our conversation and said to me that they don't cheat their customers and that this was not their mistake and it was my husbands because he signed the receipt and authorized the purchase. I explained to him I only wanted the refund for the difference of what the price would be for two waters and he still refused to help us out and began to chuckle at the fact that I was getting frustrated because they had just charged us $45 for two waters and they were going to get away with it because they rushed the transaction and my husband didn't pay attention to how much the total was on the receipt even after Ling told him the total was going to be 2 dollars and some change. I asked him to pull up the video footage to prove that we didn't eat there at the restaurant and of course there's no video surveillance in the restaurant. Overall these people are nothing but crooks and probably take advantage of people all the time and get away with things like this but thank God for disputes within credit unions. I have never eaten at this establishment and after this I will never eat there nor recommend this place to anybody!!! The food was not fresh. We were the only ones in here. And it wasnt made fresh. Pulled it out of like a insulator and nukes some veggies and called it a day. The eggs rolls and cheese puff things were nice and hot though. I got the sweet n sour pork. It was dry and just not good. No customerservice like at all. We ordered, payed and they have us the food but never said a word. No napkins and then they all went to the back so I couldn't ask for any. Three want anything"extra" out at all. Great little place for eat in or to-go. When I moved to this area of town I was worried about the food selection, especially Asian food which is a staple in my house. This place has eliminated my worry. Everything I have gotten has been delicious from garlic shrimp to beef with snow peas to bubhas veggies to soup. Only place I go to in Poway for authentic Chinese food. It's ran by a family, the brothers look so much alike I get them confused! You get that mom and pop comfort feel when dining here... They also remembered how I liked my food last time and asked me if I wanted it prepared the same way. Great food and budget friendly (perfect for students!!) I LOVE their salt and pepper chicken wings and broccoli N chicken with rice. Also a good pick for my house is the hot and sour soup. (they even remember how tangy I like mine and alter it to my liking!) My roomates and I even ordered their party trays for gameday and birthday parties and it is such a good deal! Kind owners and helpful as well- Just visiting san diego with a diversed group of friends and the gentleman accommodated our different needs along with an extra togo box since my friend from the uk has never seen one. The younger owner gave us suggestion tips and we refrained from the typical choices like kung pao and orange chicken, to get the szechuan chicken and I honestly enjoyed it. City Dragon is pretty average Americanized Chinese food. I came here for lunch with two of my friends and we ordered the chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour pork and orange chicken. The quality of the food is so-so and the lunch portions are somewhat on the small side. We all left still feeling hungry and wondering what we were going to eat next.
