City Cafe at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London - Tower of London is the place where the hotel serves its breakfast, as of May 2019 it is priced at £21.50 per person or £17.50 if booking in advance with the hotel. City Cafe is the traditional name used by a large amount of Doubletree by Hilton brands for their restauraunt, this one is actually one of three bars or restaurants in the hotel, pretty impressive even if it is in central London.
Breakfast is served between 6:30 and 10:30 in the morning during the week, add half an hour onto each time at the weekend.
The service at breakfast was pretty good, recently I've found service at breakfast has declined at Hilton hotels I've stayed at but here it was great, the staff were really friendly and attentive and willing to offer all the help I need within season, sadly one of the main issues was they didn't have any Fresh Orange juice (just cheap cordial which was disgusting and watery - I mean I get they need to make a profit but paying high breakfast costs and not being given fresh juice is ridiculous!), this was my only issue with a staff member where she replied "No" with no apology or recommendation of another beverage.
The other issue with service which was more of a common sense issue was the fact I ordered a ham and cheese omelette, and it took a really long time, after chasing it up I found out they'd brought it to an EMPTY TABLE, It made no sense why they'd put a hot, new omelette down on a table where no one was sitting for at least half an hour, luckily I managed to get it back quick enough and the staff were friendly after that offering to remake it. I decided against it as it was pretty hot, I did find the omelette to be pretty low quality, a little bland and it tasted like it was pre-made or done in an omelette maker, alongside the juice, this was the worst part of my meal.
The majority of my breakfast was okay apart from that, but missing fresh fruit juices was a big bummer for me, the scrambled eggs were well seasoned.
I would have liked an egg station, which some hotels do have, rather than ordering extras with a staff member.
An average hotel breakfast, with kind staff and decent food, let down by a blip in service (omelette-gate being the main reason) and lack of fresh fruit juices. 3* read more
