We stopped here because we were starving, and it smelled good. I'm certain the smoke coming from the chimney is a potpourri of BBQ to attract folks like us, and not the actual smoked meats. I ordered beef brisket and turkey as the two meats. They were both way over cooked/smoked. Actually too dry to eat without sauce. I looked at it like "if I was in the wilderness, and starving, would I eat this". The answer is yes, but only then. The potato salad was good, and so was the sweet tea. I've ordered takeout from here twice and both times it was excellent. Their brisket is tasty and not dry, and their ribs are delicious. My only knock on them is that when you get the family combo, you can't pick ribs. So I ended up buying the pulled chicken and the brisket, and ordering a half slab of ribs on the side. It would have been so much easier to have a ribs and brisket combo. I wasn't a fan of their pulled chicken... I don't even know why that exists, but I don't really like pulled pork either. The mac and cheese and cole slaw were both up to par. All in all, great barbecue and I'll definitely order again. Disappointing experience....again. Even worse, their brisket. It was so bad that it compelled me to write my first Yelp review (good or bad) EVER. One tough, gray slice of brisket arrived in the 2-meat platter. The brisket was just as tough, maybe worse, on my son's More Cowbell sandwich. First pic is how City BBQ showcases their brisket in their pics. Second photo is how it actually looked. City BBQ John's Creek, you should be embarrassed to call this BBQ, and whoever decided to send this meat out the door should be re-trained, or replaced. Smoked sausage was decent. Pulled chicken sandwich was greasy and had a bone in it. Hush puppies were on point. Overall, this location continues to disappoint. Popped in here towards the end of their night for a quick BBQ dinner with my uncle yesterday. He's in town from Seoul and hadn't really had anything like this since he left Los Angeles 30 years ago. We ordered a two meat platter, and also had a half rack of ribs split between us, along with sides: hush puppies, collards, and baked beans with brisket. Everything was prepared really well, you have to ask for sauces in order to complement your meal, and so we got something for the pork, the ribs, and the brisket. So tasty. The vinegar based sauce for pulled pork was fantastic. The Texas style sauce with a kick was my favorite, along with the mustard based sauce. We enjoyed the meal, service was super kind, they make it easy to order. Set up in a fast casual way, easy to get in and out and enjoy southern BBQ quickly and without the long waits. if you get your food, it's good, but it's a big if. I downloaded the restaurant app. and l used it to order food multiple times. The problem is every time I order, something is missing OR my order has been canceled unexpectedly. Tonight marks the 3rd time, so I am officially DONE! Beware that you will get a text saying that your order is coming with an expected arrival time for delivery. An hour later, no food, so you will call the restaurant. They'll tell you that they're staring at your DoorDash driver and about to send the order out in 5 to 10 minutes. Another hour later, your food still won't have arrived. You'll get another text saying that your order has been modified or canceled. You will call to ask what happened and get a rude answer about how the system went down and the employee had to handle 17 orders alone. I don't mind being patient and understanding with it happening once, but three times is ridiculous. Don't waste your time. You will end up hungry and disappointed. read more

Lots of seating here! They have a substantial condiment bar with all types of barbecue sauce fixins. I did the Brushfire and peach habanero (which was really spicy but great). I wished I had tried the bourbon. There is also a lemonade and tea machine, plus a soda fountain. For my meal, I ordered the chicken breast sandwich with two sides. It also came with a wing. I did the vinegar slaw and Mac & Cheese. I DO NOT recommend the vinegar slaw. I had hoped it would have more vinegar taste but it didn't, and wished it was just normal slaw. Maybe I was just spoiled living in Decatur with Community Q, but I waver between 1 and 2 stars for City Barbeque. I gave it 2 because they really do have a good product, but the frustration of years of bad experiences and not learning my lesson can't make me give it any more. I also do not give this review lightly in the time of COVID, based on some frivolous reaction to one event. I've had atrocious service and new bad surprises each time. Plus, much of their poor effort is due to having a ton of business, so I'm not too worried about them. (see photo...that's not even all the receipts at that moment of them not finding my order) Here's the thing, each time in the past 7 months that I've done curbside pickup, they haven't taken it out to my car. I don't know why I have such bad luck, but I do go during prime times of 6:30 on Friday nights. But I sit there waiting, I call, it's not ready, I wait almost an hour and can't get through on the phone to get an answer, and finally I just go inside and it's stone cold in the corner. And they're out of the sides I ordered. Or they forgot to give buns (I'm ordering the Family Pack). Or there is no cornbread and that's just my problem. I've NEVER had my full order and I've gone here a dozen times since its soft opening. Now I understand, if you order a brisket or some slow-cook meat near closing, they may be out, but collards are always out, corn bread doesn't keep up with orders, baked beans are just not in the bagome when I get h, etc. etc. My wife is always the one to say, "Maybe they're better now. Let's not cook tonight and have some BBQ takeout!" Like a sucker, I forget the past and commit myself to hold times for an order that comes up incomplete, or cold, or requires me to keep checking, or is never brought to the pickup section of the lot. Even when I'm in the lot and a worker comes out with an order for another car and I ask her to check on mine and tell her I've been waiting she just goes inside and never comes back again. Positive note: they always pack pickles and various sauces in good quantities when requested. For the price I pay, I can't get a dice roll on the meal AND have to jump through hoops to get it. We ordered 3lbs of pulled chicken with sides of corn pudding and Mac n cheese. It was the party platter thing so we got the buns as well. The chicken was great! Felt like it was on the healthier side? (I've been eating bad for over a week, so this might seem healthier compared to my cheat week haha). The corn pudding was sweet and yummy. Definitely on the heavier and unhealthy side but worth it! The Mac n cheese was cheeesssyyyy! Definitely heavy! So if you like those side of things then you'll like it for sure. We also got a side order of fries. The fries were super greasy and soggy. Not sure if the soggy is cause it was a carry out order and the time from picking it up and then taking it home and then eating. We did order the chocolate cake. The whole cake! It was HUGE! It brings a family friendly environment and presentation you might find at a larger more notable national chain but City Barbeque isn't any small chicken. They have multiple locations actually and the latest one they is now opened in Suwanee. The restaurant is large. I think it took over the former location of another steakhouse chain who I cannot recall at the moment but the layout you can tell right when you walk in that it used to be another family restaurant. The menu is full of staples you would find at any BBQ joint. Like ribs, chicken, smoked brisket, etc.. Lots of options to pick from. You get sides like rolls, mac n cheese, cole slaw, to name a few that come with the meals. Also you get a lot of sauces to add to the flavor of the meals. I had the ribs when I came here. It's decent amount that they give. I'll be honest, the meat doesn't quite come off the bone as well as other places like Fat Matt's down in Atlanta for example but it's still pretty good in terms of texture and smokiness. Not too chewy and very tender. Overall, this place is going to do well in this area. Most people and especially the demographics of middle class American families are going to eat this place up. Update: I was contacted by City Barbeque, and they were very helpful and apologetic about my meal not being packaged with silverware or napkins. I appreciated the gesture and follow-up. The food here has always been great. I ordered Uber Eats for lunch. The food was good. I have never had bad food here. My biggest disappointment was trying to enjoy BBQ and greens without napkins or silverware, and the bbq sauce that was included has popped open and smeared all over the bag and the other sauce. The line is usually almost to the door. It can move pretty slowly and I'm not sure if it is the cashiers or the customers. They call your name when your food is ready but it's not too easy to hear them. Dining room is nice, mostly tables, a few booths and some high tops including the long group-style variety. The food is great! Delicious hush puppies, corn pudding, potato salad. Good pulled pork. The brisket was fatty and burnt in places so I don't recommend that. They have Pepsi products, but offer diet Mountain Dew and Diet Dr Pepper so there are varieties for those who like low calorie options. They have several BBQ sauces to chose from. This place is an absolute NIGHTMARE. I would recommend eating at literally any other establishment in the Atlanta area over this one. I am currently in the middle of the most ridiculous experience I've ever witnessed with this pathetically incompetent excuse for a restaurant. It has been over 4 hours after we ordered $80 worth of food and after them initially showing up with 1/4th of our food (cold and disgusting) with the rest missing, another 2 hours have passed and the rest of our order is nowhere to be found. I was shopping in the neighborhood and I kept smelling BBQ. The aroma in the air made me hungry. I was on a hunt to find where the scent was coming from. I finally rolled up on City BBQ. I check the menu out in the parking lot and knew I wanted ribs. It happen to be Rib Bone Tuesday. Where each rib is $1.79. I ordered 6 and added a side of Mac n Cheese to go. The cashier was helpful. The ribs were wrapped in paper and placed in a bag. A suggestion to provide a to go container instead. The ribs were delicious. Smoked and tasty. The Mac n cheese I didn't care for. I didn't like it. Very impressed with City Barbeque. Awesome new addition to the area. City Barbeque opened their second location in the Johns Creek area. They took the old Applebee's spot and did a great job with the space and store front. It was very busy today but appreciated that they were open on a holiday. The line was out the door. You order at the counter and you wait for your food to come out from the serving counter. As busy as they were today, they were very well staffed and from order to pick up time was pretty fast. Very impressed. The staff including the manager was very friendly, hands on, and made for an enjoyable dining experience from order to food. It's pretty spacious and they also have a nice sized outside seating available. Love that they are pet friendly on the patio! That's big for me especially as I don't feel there's enough restaurants in Atlanta and the surrounding areas that are pet friendly. Heck, some pets act better than some people. The food was delicious!! We ordered one of the family style options and had plenty of leftovers. The beef brisket...Wow!! I'm super picky on my beef briskets but they nailed it here. Super juicy and flavorful. This was one of the few bbq spots I felt I could eat my whole meal without adding bbq sauce. Speaking of bbq sauce I liked how they had a large selection to choose from. Ok, where to begin? Let's start with Fathers Day. I and my sister took my dad and our stepmom to lunch at city barbecue at approximately 1 o'clock in the afternoon this past Sunday. When we arrived there was a line, but it moved at a decent pace, so we figured that was normal. When my dad arrived, I was right there (at the register), and ready to order. Great! The prices were OK, not to much, but not cheap either. We ordered 3 salads- 1 pulled pork, 1 chicken, and 1 without meat (sacrilege, I know). Then I ordered a couple baskets of fries and (for me) a "pick 2" - pulled pork and brisket. The bad starts here: The wait was kind of awful. They were not swamped at all. There were only 4 orders in front of us and only two of those orders were "to go". Our order was to be "dine in". I had my family go find a table outside with their drinks (waters and lemonades), and I stood vigilant by the counter area, awaiting our order....FOR 50 MINUTES! On the one hand, they did have a lot of "to go" orders that were called in, but on the other hand, they have two sets of staff - 1 set of staffers covers the call-in to go orders and the other set of staff covers the counter orders. Sometimes the call-in to go staffers would do a little bit of the other groups orders too. You'd think that would make it go quicker than 50 MINUTES. Anyway, whilst I stood there, I watched everyone. Food safety at this place is a lacking- kind of a lot. With the exception of 2 guys (one in food prep and the other in the counter staff), not one person changed gloves. NOT ONE, SINGLE, PERSON. Everyone had hats on, but 2 guys stood out from the pack- they both had their hats on backwards with their hair sticking way out of the opening (both in food prep). There were 4 guys in food prep, total. One guy was the fry cook and operated the oven as well- he changed his gloves once during the 50 minutes. However, he was back and forth from the prep station, touching fries and hush puppies and trays of chicken and EVEN PRESSING BUTTONS AT THREE LOCATIONS, all without changing gloves. One guy was on pulled pork and chicken duty- he never changed his gloves- at all. Cross-contamination much? One guy was on brisket duty and also put fries into baskets. He never changed his gloves either- again, meat juices definitely getting on the fries for all you vegetarians out there. The last guy is the absolute worst. He was at the food prep counter, but he kept dealing with customers plates and things. EVERY SINGLE PLATE, TRAY, or BOWL that he touched was absolutely disgustingly covered in grease. (Top, bottom, side- doesn't matter- everywhere)....what kind of grease? All the grease! Meat juices of all kinds, fry grease, grease from all the different foods up on that disaster of a prep counter....on everything. Other things I noticed weee that they packed food orders and the. Set them off to the side- not in warner or anything, just on a table near the front counter by the wall or o. The counter itself- and left them. One lady came in to pick up her order and the staff for call-in to go orders just pointed at that table by the wall and said "I think it's one of those." ‍ Ofcourse, the customer proceed to open all the bags and no one said anything to her. She found her order and walked out with it. No one checked that she got the right thing- she could have walked out with all the orders (4 in total) on that table and no one would have been the wiser about it. Worse than that though, maybe, was that her order and those other 3 had been there since I ordered....they sat, unheated, in bags that people messed with, on a table by the doorway for 50 MINUTES... I never did see anyone pick up the other three. Gross. That's pork, y'all. It should be held at temperature! When we first walked in, the bus boy said to a guy that was sitting at the booth closest to the front door, "Would you like me to wipe down the table? Has it been wiped down?" The customer was like...."I don't know, man. Sure." He just took his wet rag, haphazardly wiped the table in a circular motion, and then walked away. He left the poor customer with a nasty-smelling, wet table. That's not sanitizing- that's spreading the germs around, at best! At worst, that rag wasn't actually clean and he added more germs to the table! The customer had to take napkins from the table dispenser and dry his table to he could put his things back down. I would have moved. The good: everyone enjoyed their food. Dad said the meat needed more smoke, but it was OK. The French fries were really good- very squishy and oily though. The pulled pork was more dry than anything else, but bbq sauces saved the day. The brisket was the best thing I had here- the fat on the edge was rendered perfectly and melted in my mouth. All in all- do I recommend this place? Probably not. The food safety issues are a mess and the wait was terrible. They need to up their game- kind of a lot. read more

Used to be the best BBQ in ATL area. Deedy, reviewer before this, is right-- a month ago, the ribs were falling off the bone & absolutely delicious. I began to resume coming every week. PROBLEM: Johns Creek City BBQ has been very inconsistent;. For past two weeks the brisket & ribs were a miss. A week ago the brisket was dry & tasteless. This week, the ribs tasted greasy & left-over. During the summer, the brisket & ribs were tender, meaty, and delicious. Looks like they are short of staff & definitely need to bring back the person(s) who cooked the brisket & ribs during the summer. After two consecutive weeks of disappointment, I'll be going on hiatus from City. From today's customer numbers, I believe many others are feeling the same way. The staff is friendly, but, if the food is not good, It's a small consolation to me. I hope management steps up to make this location as excellent as it had been over the past five year. read more

I placed an order with City Barbecue on Thursday mid day for a lunch Friday serving 30 people. They accepted the order and showed up the next day right on time. I loved the food. The brisket was so succulent and fall apart. Most places have dry brisket that requires tons of bbq sauce. The brisket held it's own. The half chicken was great too. Sauces are amazing! Great meat! The service was great too. I was expecting sitdown service, but you order at the counter. The sides are all a la carte and not included. In my opinion, sides should be included as they are at most BBQ spots. The friendly guy at the cash register asked us to pick our 2 sides as if the entrees came with them. Luckily, we asked if they were included and he said no. This was a bit underhanded. This will easily takes a $12 dish to $17 bucks for an unsuspecting customer. We LOVE bbq so are very picky when we go to new places. This was was highly reviewed on google reviews and Yelp and are normal bbq in Atlanta is always so busy that we didn't want to risk it during covid. This place is very low key and delicious. Literally could not have asked for a better combo. Since it was our first time here, we did the sampler to try everything. We tried the chicken, brisket, pulled pork, ribs, salad, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, and fries. All of this came with cornbread, Texas toast, and buns. Now I'm very glad we tried everything for our first visit but for all visits after, we will only order the brisket and ribs because those really were a head of the rest. The cornbread is literally the best I have ever had so that is a must. And the Texas toast is plain tasty. All the sides were our favorite too. There isn't one I wouldn't order again. Good barbecue restaurant overall. It's a chain and definitely feels that way. The food is pretty good, and there are plenty of options for sauces. I would recommend the brisket as the standout menu item. There's definitely much better barbecue in Georgia, but it seems like there aren't any other American/Southern bbq restaurants in the center of Johns Creek, so this is likely the only option. Every time I come here the food is of great quality. I always get t the Nashville hot chicken (personal preference) w/corn bread. Staff is friendly and efficient. The lighting is great and nice country aesthetic. The bathrooms are well kept and paper towel dispenser gives you more then one sheet on first go (lol) and there are ample napkins at each table.
