Worst place ever to get customer service they schedule appointments and then change times. Call night before to remind you of the time but change it. They're overbooking and when you need refrigerator repaired you need someone now not weeks out. I like to give kudos to people these days because there isn't enough of that. But with City Appliance I would give them less than one star, but there isn't that option. They were to come to my house through home warranty insurance as I had 2 appliances that needed work. I had to reschedule my appointment due to deaths in my family, and they seemed to be accommodating me with appointment times. The day they were supposed to come I had spoken to them the day before as I needed to leave my house at a specific time. They told me that the window for the technician's arrival was from 9-11, but that I would be the first call. They even called me back to confirm and said he would be to my house in time for me to leave. On the day of my appointment, I called their office at 9:45 to see where the technician was; I assumed he would be here closer to 9. They contacted him and said he would be there in a half hour. 45 minutes later, and getting close to when I needed to leave, no technician. I called back and they said he was just getting off freeway and would be here in 15 minutes. I asked how he would be able to do the work before I left. I was very bothered by this as I needed the work and couldn't take another day off of work. The girl proceeded to tell me that the window was 9-11, and that DOES NOT mean someone will be at your house close to 9, but that they need to get supplies, that is why they give you a "window'..and they would call when they were a half hour out. NEVER RECEIVED A CALL! The girl at City Appliance proceeded to tell me how accommodating they were and that I shouldn't have expected them at 9, that I could just call insurance and get someone else to come out...Unbelievable customer service. I tried to be very clear with my schedule when I got the appointment, I spoke to the same person, and she even cleared it with her supervisor. I said have him come (can't take time off) and get done what he could, and that I would call the insurance company about their customer service. Long story short - NO ONE SHOWED UP! SHE CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT. Don't believe them when they say they are going to be somewhere at a certain time. They are not truthful and do not have any regard for their customers. And looking at the reviews, I am not the only one who had a problem with them. City Appliance look at your customer service - there's a problem!!! read more

Lloyd from City Appliance has fixed two appliances for me and has been excellent both times. The first time was four months ago for refrigerator repair under a home warranty insurance policy. Two previous local appliance repair companies -- two, got that? -- had been sent by the home warranty company and couldn't figure out the leak. Lloyd came and did his good work. Most recently Lloyd got my reliable old washing machine to stop dancing around so it can, hopefully, continue working for another 10 years. :) read more

These people were sent by my home warranty company to check out my fridge that had stopped working. Once they were contacted, they told me they wouldn't be able to come by for 2 WEEKS! I couldn't believe it, but had no choice so I waited.... When they finally came, they diagnosed the issue within moments telling me "your fridge is dead, can't fix it". Fine, they said they would relay this information to my home warranty company so that my coverage would get me a new fridge. However, 3 WEEKS LATER THEY STILL HAD NOT CONTACTED MY WARRANTY FIRM TO TELL THEM ANYTHING!!!! I had to call and get the firm to contact them for information. Now I've been 5 weeks without a fridge, during the holidays...what a load of shit. The home warranty company apologized on City Appliance's behalf, and promised they will try to rush a replacement for me...but I am so annoyed. Really? It takes you 3 weeks to say anything about your inspection? I will never use them again. read more

I really wnted to like these guys since they are the local repair people, but things got dicey when I got the bill right before the guy left and I realized I had been promised a different rate by the guy who came previously. That's frustrating for me as a customer to not know until the end that I was overcharged. Then there was a verbal argument about this with the guy who was doing the repairs. I don't appreciate it - even though they fixed it in the end. Word to the wise - always get the paperwork to look it over before the guy gets going on the work. That way, if there are problems with the charges, it can all be fixed without holding anybody up. Appliance repair is an expensive game - parts + labor + service call charge - DANG! read more

Do not purchase from City Appliance. I purchased a Speed Queen Washer and Dryer. When City Appliance delivered the set, the dryer was damaged. Why wasn't this checked prior to delivery? It took two weeks for the replacement to arrive. Sixty days later, the brand new dryer is not working. Is this City Appliance's fault? Well no but when I called I was told that they are moving so it will be at least two weeks until they could possibly get a repair tech out. Ridiculous. read more

My husband & I recently went there to see about a new refridgerator. We have done business with them before and had a good experience. This time was not good. The refridgerator we purchased off the floor was delivered to our home & was damaged. We were offered to return the fridge & wait until they got another one- didn't know when that would be since the owner/ manager stated having problems with the manufacturer. The other option was to get 40.00 off the repair of the refridgerator. I advised the delivery person we were not paying to repair the appliance that was supposed to be new & to return it. We were advised the office would contact us. No call the next morning so we went there to speak to the lady in charge. She offered another model which was 100.00 more and she would split the difference. So we paid an additional 50.00. This refridgerator gets delivered & we start to take the packaging off and discover 2 dents in the fridge. We call the office & speak to the same lady who is very unhappy that we are calling again. She said they would pull another refridgerator out of their stock & inspect it before they deliver it & would call us when they were coming to deliver it. We waited for 1-2 hours, no call so we called. We were told we needed to come there to inspect the fridge. We advised her that was not the previous conversation. She ended up stating the fridge was being delivered but only to our driveway & we had to have the dented fridge outside for the delivery person to pick up. The last fridge is working properly & no dents. Will never do business there again. We try to shop local but bad attitudes will drive you elsewhere. read more

STEER CLEAR! City Appliance was supposed to be a GE trained and authorized specialist but after a $3000 repair we continued to experience problems. The technician (owner?) admitted the problem was his error and vowed to fix it. Each time we called back to let him know the problem was still not fixed we had to wait for 2 weeks for an appointment. After over 10! callbacks and 5 months of continued problems, were forced to involve a reputable appliance company who diagnosed the problem and fixed in on the first visit. This business is the gold standard for how to get loyal customers. I had 30 people coming for a family dinner and 90 the next day for an event and my fridge stopped working. Unbelievably poor customer service and a very incompetent business model. City Appliance is listed with GE Appliance Service Center as the one local GE Appliance authorized service center. However, when GE schedules a service with them and provides a return confirmation number from them, they claim to have no knowledge of the work order and they claim that they do not service GE appliances not purchased through them. The receptionist answering calls to their 805 number is very rude and lacks basic customer service skills. read more

So having to buy appliances isn't all that fun, unless of course you are getting a new kitchen or something fun like that. But that wasn't the case for me, i just had a broken washing machine. I haven't always had great luck with appliance repairmen in the past, so I dreaded having to deal with another one...until I met Lloyd at CIty Appliance. He tells me what I need to know, how to fix it, how much it will cost, and even what he would do if he were me. He also makes sure that he shows me what's going on with my appliance at what is causing the problem so that I won' t have it again in the future. In addition, both Lloyd and the staff have always been easy to work with, are always there in the time frame they said they would be and always do what they say they are going to do. As a bonus, he let me use his appliance paint to fix a ding on another appliance. It just shows you that they aren't about giving you hard time, but just a great customer experience. I don't know anything about appliances, but I feel comfortable that I am getting an honest, professional, and complete service with City Appliance. I highly recommend them for whatever you need in the area. read more

The dryer we bought used a couple of years ago (from a different store) started making a rumbling sound and smelled a little like singed or burnt rubber... so we popped in to City Appliance on a Saturday to see 1. what they might charge for a service call, and 2. what they had in stock of used appliances in case our dryer bit the dust. We met the employee on duty in the store, Elizabeth, and explained to her what was going on. We gave her our model number of our Whirlpool dryer, and showed her a picture of the control panel on it from our phone. She said they'd be happy to send someone to look at it, but if we were handy at all, she was pretty sure we'd be able to fix it ourselves. The rumbly grumbly sound was likely because it was in need of a maintenance kit - a kit of parts that need changing after 8 or 10 years. $35 for a bag of parts that included a new belt, rollers and some widgets to hold the rollers on. Directions included, but she suggested we search for some how - to videos on Youtube. If we weren't successful, we could still have someone come out for service. She had the parts in stock, the store was open on a Saturday, and Elizabeth was very knowledgeable and provided great customer service. We replaced the rollers, and in the process went back for a new door sensor / switch and replaced that too. All in all, we spent about $50 in parts and put in about an hour of work. Yes, we could have sourced the parts on line to save a few bucks, but this company is in our community, stocks the parts, and provides the service that small towns depend on. City Appliance installed a NEW refrigerator, but exchanged out the old doors, unbeknownst to me. The seal on the freezer was somehow damaged in the process and my frost free freezer began to ice up. I called them to come out. The person who came out to 'fix' the seal (who by the way was VERY nice) did not replace the old seal but said he had 'fixed it'. My freezer has now iced up again and ants are getting into my freezer! I called City Appliance again and they set up an appointment with me for this last Thursday, to replace the seal. They never showed up and did not call. I called after the time they were to last be there (I was given an arrival time frame of 1-5 PM, and stayed home to wait...) and since it was 515 PM, the business was closed. I left a message that the repair person never showed up and no one had called to tell me anything different and would they please call me back and left my number. They still have not called back. Meanwhile the ice continues to build. #1- Why did they exchange my old doors instead of leaving on the new doors? #2- When I called about the ice buildup, the first time and the repairman, is when I found out they had not installed new doors. #3- The repairman assured me the old seals were fine and his fix would take care of the problem. I trusted him. I now know I should not have. #4- hen I called the second time and told the person answering the phone about the new ice buildup and the ants getting through the 'fixed' seal, she explained that ants were able to breach seals. I had NEVER had this happen before with my old fridge. Also if the seal was tight there would not be more ice build up. #4- Not showing up? Not calling to explain if they were running late? Not calling me back to set another appointment??????? WHAT????? read more

Bought a dishwasher and have had problems with from day one. They did come out to look at it, but could not fix problem. They said the would call the company and let us know, but never heard from them again??? $550.00 later and we still have a dish washer that won't work! City Appliance was extremely helpful while I was considering purchasing 2 coin drop Speed Queen dryers for the apartments that I manage in Santa Barbara. Not only did they give me the best price on the machines and delivery out of all appliance companies/stores between Ventura and Santa Maria, but they also answered all my questions and calls in a timely manner (special thanks to Elizabeth!). I requested that my machines get keyed the same, and that was no problem at all, and they were able to do that without any hassle (other companies said this wasn't possible, or that it would take weeks to special order them). They were so efficient, and accurate when it came to the delivery window - their delivery guy even called me when he was 20 minutes out, so that I didn't have to waste my morning waiting around. When they delivered the machines, they were SO nice, SUPER helpful, and wanted to ensure my experience with them was pleasant. When the machines were delivered, there was a small chip on one (from the Speed Queen Manufacturer, not City Appliance's fault), and the delivery guy put an order in to get that fixed and ordered asap. He repaired my ice maker, and taught me helpful tips to keep my refrigerator working at its best. He even help level my dishwasher at no charge. Very disappointed. Bought a washing machine from them in December and already had to get a part replaced for over a hundred dollars. The repairman never gave me an estimate before he started the work and since he completed the repair, I felt obligated to pay the price. I would of liked to know what the problem was and given the option to go with City Appliance or somebody else. first i would have given zero stars but had to put 1 to write a review.second, i don't write reviews unless there is an extreme need too! i have had the same person come out and "fix" my stove top i have waisted many days because they only say that they will be there between 1-5 in the afternoon and every time they come and "fix" it they brake it more than they fixed it,or they have no idea what there doing. this time they came to replace the spark plug modular and he left in a hurry i went to see if it was working and it had the same problem the burners were still clicking and they were not igniting properly BUT.... now my oven doest work... REALLY!!! and they can't come back till Wednesday!!!! i called as soon as he left and the receptionist said that he was way to far away to turn around REALLY.... i called 2 minutes after you left you could not have gotten far at all!!! so now what am i supposed to do till then with no oven??? its more frustrating that the people that work at city appliance don't care about there work they don't fully check if everything is working properly they do the bare minimum and leave without any questions asked. read more

I normally don't write reviews but for this one i had to. I give it one star if i had a choice there would be no stars. I had a stove that has been malfunctioning. So i called my insurance and they sent over City Appliance the first tech that came over diagnosed the problem and attempted to fix it and needed a part. it took about a month to get the part. When the part came in the second tech came in and replaced the part upon replacing the part he re assembled the stove and didn't test anything before leaving. i tested it right after he left found out that the problem wasn't fixed and the buttons on the face of the oven were malfunctioning now i called back within 2 mins and the secretary told me that he was too far out of town to turn around and we could reschedule for next week... REALLY!!! so now they came back in a week and it seems like all they did is clean out the burner i was like if thats all the problem was why couldnt that have been done the first time you came over???? and he wouldn't have even messed up my oven he started talking about all these problems that these ovens have trying to make it seem like it wasn't him that messed up my oven. (it was working fine before he touched it) he pressed a few buttons and turned it off and said well looks like its working fine. and he was gone! well when i went to use the oven to make dinner i pre heated the oven and it for no reason, turned off. i had to sit next to the oven and keep turning it on and when i called city appliance back to set up another apt they said that they closed out our account with the insurance so we have to start ALL OVER!! meaning redoing the order paying for a new technician to come out and finish what city appliance started.. i will NEVER have city appliance work on any of my appliances i will NEVER refer my friends to them SO DISAPPOINTED and the secretary told me they stand behind there technicians i tried to tell her that he didn't do a good job and when i called back when he just left he said that it was 2 hours later so he totally lied about that i called 2 mins after he left!!!!! and the secretary was arguing with me so she didn't believe me she believed the tech!!! and then closes out the order knowing that the problem isn't fixed. they pushed us out thats HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I am now a loyal new customer of City Appliance. I couldn't hardly believe the wonderful service I received, when my refrigerator was having problems. They made me an appointment for the next day. When Lloyd arrived, we all discovered my frig stopped working completely. I, of course went into panic mode thinking I was going to have to buy a new frig and all that would entail. Previous dealings with repair people this is usually how it goes. "My frig was old and it would take many parts to fix, so you best buy a new frig mam." But no, Lloyd said it would still be worth fixing and it wouldn't cost as much as a new frig. He said he could try to fix it. And to my amazement he did. He even found parts for it. Took extra time in cleaning old parts and went totally above and beyond to help me. I know that most repair people just don't want to take the time to do all that. Lloyd even helped me in cleaning up everything after he was done. Sure he could have just said buy a new frig. But in the end City Appliance has a new customer for life. And I will spread the word about how happy I am with their service and especially Lloyd. And when the time comes to buy a new frig I will buy it from City Appliance. read more
