Engaging in a contract with Meridith Baer Home has resulted in the single most WORST consumer…read moreexperience of my life. My husband and I incurred a financial loss of $21,000.00 after entering into a contract for home staging of our 5.5-million-dollar property located in Bluff Park (long beach) that we were preparing for sale. Our experience commenced when Mary from Meridith Baer Home visited our property for an initial consultation. Mary walked the property pointing to just about every piece of furnishing stating "this must go" and "this must go". Despite our home being fully furnished, Mary assured us that Meridith Baer Home could far improve on our current furnishings by implementing an elevated and cohesive transitional design utilizing new or near-new furnishings. Mary informed us that Meridith Baer Home "only utilizes furnishings ONCE or perhaps twice" before donating them. So, we signed the contract, gave Meridith Baer Home $21,000.00 and donated practically all of our furnishings, artwork, and accessories. The staging installation was scheduled as a two-day process. At the end of day one my husband and I went to the property to meet the designer and assess the progress. We were in utter disbelief of the condition and style of the furnishings that had been delivered. The furniture/furnishings were old, damaged, broken, stained, had a terrible odor, and in general, in terrible condition. Not the "transitional design using new furniture" that was promised by Mary or what is shown in Meridith Baer Home social media. We contacted Mary and arranged for a meeting first thing on day two. During our meeting, Mary, the project designer, our real estate agent, and myself conducted a walkthrough of the property. Mary agreed that all existing furnishings should be removed, and other furnishings should be brought in. We presented Mary with the broken furniture, stains on the sofa, odors in the rugs, and the poor quality of the artwork. We expressed our concerns about the significant deviation from the promised conditions. Mary consistently interrupted our questions and only responded with the phrase, "It will be fixed." At the conclusion of the walkthrough, my husband requested a private conversation with Mary, excluding the designer and our realtor. He wanted to discuss the situation candidly and understand the reasons behind the discrepancies between the promised and actual conditions. Mary responded by stating that no private conversations would be held, as the designer was in a position of authority and could address any concerns directly. My husband, avoiding any potential embarrassment for the designer, chose to remain silent and refrain from further discussion. Upon leaving the meeting, we were informed that the following day, the existing furnishings would be removed, and suitable replacements would be delivered. Later that evening, while reviewing the security camera footage, we discovered a video recording of Mary and the designer engaged in a conversation in front of our Ring video doorbell. In this conversation, Mary made light of and mocked my husband's request for a private discussion. This revelation led us to conclude that we could not proceed with the project, as we believed that Mary and her team were not acting in good faith. We contacted our realtor and requested that he inform Mary about the recording and our decision to withdraw from the Meridith Baer Home project. Our realtor informed us shortly thereafter that he had been instructed to request that we submit a written cancellation of the staging to Meridith Baer Home. That same day, we submitted our cancellation and requested that all of their property be removed from our home and that a refund be issued. The property was removed several days later, but no refund was issued. When the property was removed, their staff took hours to remove it. After reviewing our security camera footage, I could see real-time that the staff was lying around on the furniture and overall, fooling around without working. Again, how very disrespectful to conduct themselves this way in someone's home. In conclusion, although we sought legal counsel to recover our $21,000.00 loss, our counselor advised that the cost of seeking a refund and the personal time spent attempting to recover this loss might not be worth our while. Therefore, this was a $21,000.00 lesson. The Meridith Baer Home contract is completely one-sided. We signed the contract against our better judgement. My husband and I are both business owners and in our businesses we would have NEVER signed a contract that offered ZERO protections to us. Given the Meridith Baer Home "name" we decided (against our better judgment) to trust the name and brand. This was not a wise choice. After this fiasco, we did additional research and found that our story is not unique. There are lawsuits on the internet representing the same exact experience we had. For pictures/video DM me.

We consulted Lisa once we had already embarked on the project although I wish we had done it sooner. From the beginning, Lisa made us feel welcome and comfortable even though this was not a million dollar project. We appreciated her positive attitude and generous spirit. She provided key input on layout, design and materials as well as expert vendor recommendations for window treatments, closet solutions, lighting, tiles, fixtures, wall coverings, furniture and decor. Her rates were fair and she was always mindful of our budget and time constraints when recommending ideas and solutions. Lisa took time to understand our aesthetic preferences. She worked tirelessly to make sure that the contractor/ vendors delivered high quality results and on time. When we had a small issue with the closet vendor, she immediately escalated it and made sure that the work was completed to our satisfaction. Her thoughtful recommendations and painstaking attention to detail were critical in delivering results which are beautiful, functional, and harmonize well with the rest of the house. Special kudos to her for the kids bedroom, bathroom and powder room- they are stunning thanks to her vision and selection of paint colors, wallpaper and / materials. Finally, we had a lot of fun working with Lisa. Her high energy, enthusiasm and sense of humor took a lot of the stress out of remodeling and made us feel good throughout the process. We really appreciated the opportunity to work with Lisa and hope we get to collaborate again with her in the future

Lisa is an extremely talented designer with so many incredibly valuable industry connections to assist with whatever we needed, and assist with any glitches that might arise. She worked with me directly, and really listened to me and helped me develop ideas and vision. I am beyond thrilled with the project in my West Hollywood home. Her relaxed and friendly demeanor as well as her sense of style, made her seem like someone I would enjoy working with. I am absolutely in LOVE with everything. Her imagination, creativity and attention to detail was a very big help. She is professional, resourceful, trustworthy, and easy to work with. Her customer service and record keeping skills are first-rate. Also, she always had an eye on the contractor and workmanship details. I never would have known to watch for these things. Everything came in on time, on budget, and exceeded my expectations. The painters and assorted trades and workers she recommended were timely, considerate, and professional. The quality of all the design and construction work is excellent, and we saved on budget with beautiful results. I absolutely could not be more thrilled.

She has contacts and relationships in every relevant area of interior design and without exception every person she brought onto my renovation was top notch. Her vision is creative and flexible (it's never about her, it's always about the client) and she was able to work within the constraints of my budget and yet still deliver an eye-catching, tasteful, and harmonious design solution. Dwell is synonymous with quality, dedication, and client satisfaction. I have no hesitation highly…read morerecommending. Before contracting with Dwell for a full home, down-to-the-studs reno of a 50-yr old Pasadena home, I'd fired two general contractors: The first was a luxury, longstanding (30 yr) Pasadena firm that was simply too doctrinaire, languid, and non-responsive in their approach; the second was the opposite: too green, easily overwhelmed, and quickly passive aggressive and combative in communications to the point I was uneasy handing over the keys to demo and reno my home. I reset, cast a wide net for new prospects and interviewed 11 firms, all while recognizing that perhaps my expectations were too high and I was part of the problem. Gio confidently asserted that I *should* have high expectations, as it was my home that I was renovating. Fast forward, and the end product is phenomenal, surpassing my expectations without a single regret. A few notes: 1. Client dedication: Dwell and its full team (Gio, my phenomenal project manager Michael, Santiago, and the office team) all never gave a doubt that their focus is on doing the job right; i.e. in a manner that the client and the Dwell team would both share pride in. I'd be remiss if I didn't say Gio and Michael demonstrated a strong ability and interest in understanding the client's vision and truly wanting to bring it to fruition (far beyond simply delivering a product and moving onto the next project, as you risk coming across among other GCs). 2. Productive subs: Dwell knows its subcontractors well and they are each true craftsmen. Each was professional and courteous, regularly going beyond my expectations before I'd even seen their work product for the first time (e.g., more electrical outlets than I'd imagined from electrical sub, the kindest gentleman focused on getting the cabinetry and wood finishes "just right," a foundation and framing sub with steady-handed focus and easy client rapport...). Routinely, Dwell got quick responsiveness from subs, including when I'd mistakenly given the wrong delivery date for pricey patio doors (long story short: I realized my error at 6:30pm the night before and Michael and team very serenely hustled and were able to get their installers onsite the next morning to receive and install $20k patio doors; done with professional realism that it wasn't guaranteed yet effort to ensure the safety and secure install). 3. Realistic, predictable pricing: Gio tries to price projects right from the outset to do the job well. Plenty of contractors will lowball with a likely intent to add endless change orders or limit what is delivered. Dwell, in my experience, priced the project to do it well from the start and minimize any surprises or impediments that would limit them from doing the job they believe you actually want, regardless of what other contractors may tell you. 4. Respectful: There was not a single moment of tension or confusion. Michael, Gio, and team communicated incredibly effectively, even when your day job limits attentiveness or creates time demands. They more than understand and give advance heads up of items coming up for you to weigh in on, or suggestions to make the project go smoothly if you're time-constrained. 5. Humor: I'd moved from New York and was blunt at the outset that I didn't need to be best friends with a contractor, but I do expect basic courteousness and professionalism; they easily brushed past my concerns and regularly had me laughing. Doing a full home reno takes up a lot of mental space even when it goes well; to not be stressed but actually laughing through it is priceless. [As a post-script, I should mention that the reno was completed and I moved back into the place 2 weeks prior to the January 2025 Eaton Fire that ravaged Altadena and came within 4 blocks to my place before miraculously dissipating, sparing my block and the house. The care and concern that Gio, Michael, and team demonstrated despite the project having already been completed far exceeded what I could've imagined. This is a team that cares.] Big cheers to Dwell--Gio, Michael, and team: they have built a unique team culture in a tough business where it is easy for clients to be trepidatious and cautious. Run, don't walk, to do a project with Dwell.

He gave us a lot of ideas that showed he's been doing this a long time, and it honestly made it easier to trust the whole process from the start. After that, spent time at the office going over everything in detail. The full walk through helped a lot because nothing felt vague or rushed. It was clear how the design would turn into real work, step by step. Questions were answered as they came up, and things were explained in a way that actually made sense. Once things got going, communication stayed solid. Gili and Michael were both easy to reach and stayed involved the whole time. Updates came regularly, and if something needed to change or be adjusted, it was talked through without any attitude or stress. The office team was also really helpful and kept everything moving smoothly in the background. Overall, the whole experience felt organized but still very human. Things weren't perfect every single day, but that's normal with a project like this. What mattered was that people followed through, kept communication open, and delivered what was promised. End result came out great and matched what was discussed from the beginning.

She really understood how to bring our modern-cozy vision to life while honoring the architecture of our Spanish-style home here in Southern California. Hiring Shir was absolutely worth it. Beyond her expert eye for design, you're paying for the time, clarity, and confidence that come with working with a true professional.
