I hired a car with Enterprise / Alamo through Opodo for a long weekend. The staff were really friendly and reassuring as I'd had some terrible experiences hiring cars from other rental companies in the past. I was particularly nervous when they showed me the brand new car that only had 4km on the clock.
Sign out was easy (*see below) and then as the car was new, I had to fuel up on the way out of town. 20 minutes later, the car lost power and steam was coming out from under the bonnet. This was a brand new car, so definitely not the fault of Enterprise / Alamo but they couldn't have been more helpful in sorting the problem out, first sending their own mechanic and then bringing a replacement car.
They have subsequently refunded the cost of the fuel in the first car and we've come to an agreement about the lost time spent at the side of the road.
I will definitely defualt to Enterprise / Alamo when I hire again in the future and highly recommend them to you. I'm very grateful to the Caen office for being efficient and completely straight-up with the process of sorting out the probem. My view of a business has always been that it doesn't matter if things go wrong; it's how they sort it out that really matters and this is what Caen Enterprise / Alamo did very well.
* As a general suggestion, unrelated to this hire, I've spoken to friends who hire regularly and they recommend doing your research only on comparison sites to find the best hire prices, but then booking directly with the hire company. This simplifies the whole insurance process. read more
