The rooms in this establishment were very plain. It would not have mattered if we did not feel so unwelcome. Also, be aware that there is a climb to the rooms. Our room was 2 flights up, which may be a concern to those with "faulty" knees. Also, the free wifi was too weak to be useful! I recommend the museum in town. The tour guides are fantastic!

There were other options right on the water, which has its appeal, but hands down this proved to be what we'd hoped for in terms of local welcome and warmth. The hotel is immaculately kept with pride by a wonderful family committed to every detail. The rooms are simple, extremely clean and newly redone. Lovely starched linens and new, comfortable beds. Very accommodating of families/children. As for the meals, we were demi-pension, thus had both dinner and breakfast. Sophie, who co-runs the hotel with her husband, takes pride in every detail -- from the table settings to each of the generous courses. Her offerings are creative, delicious and purchased fresh based on the market daily. Enjoy the warm reception area and dining, where the proprietors will dote on you! This was the perfect point of departure for our tour (quick walk to the local DDay museum and impressive Arromanches coast, where an unbelievable artificial harbor was created by allied forces following their June 6th invasion ...). There's also an outdoor pool area which we didn't sample as autumn was fast setting in. A very comfortable bar, perfect for an aperatif or dígestif as, unfortunately, they don't serve dinner. Our room was at the top of the original house up a spiral staircase so if that's an issue, let them know. As a base to explore the Normandy beaches and nearby Bayeux it can't be bested. We stayed five nights and ranged up and down the coast every day. After a long day's sightseeing, it was a relief to return for a verre de Vin blanc or a kir. Good value too for what we got. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The beds were also excellent and the bathrooms spacious. We were totally blown away by the quality. To top it all off, the location is perfect. Just a few blocks from the city center, and as a result many restaurants. We never had to walk more than 10 minutes any evening for our dinner reservations. And, even the Bayeux Tapestry is just a few minute walk. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about his hotel in any way. If you are visiting Bayeux, stay here.

But the beds are comfortable, shower has great water pressure, and the staff is extremely friendly. Location is great as you can walk around town easily. Only issue that I don't think you can fix, as you can hear other rooms sometimes. Breakfast is good. I would definitely recommend for a few nights went in town.

Oysters were also amazing - as was the foil gras. To be clear: we've found the service in France to generally be well above expectation. 90% of our service in France has been amazing - and we've found the servers to be attentive, engaged, and overall outstanding. The only server on the night of April 23 was entirely different. In a quiet restaurant on a slow Sunday night - we were largely ignored by our server. Requests to order desert were dismissed with "no desert for you." After complaining about the delay - we continued to wait for 30 minutes for desert to arrive. At this reportedly Michelin star restaurant - we ended up going to the bar to settle the bill - after waiting another 20 minutes. When we tried to voice our concern regarding the service - we were told that we needed to speak French (by the waiter who spoke English the entire night). We love France. We love French foods and the restaurants. We don't expect impeccable service. However, when spending 400 Euros on a meal at a highly rated restaurant with great food - we expect that the service will match the food and the bill. Hoping that management sees this and addresses the very significant shortfall of service with the front of house employees. Strongly recommend avoiding this establishment anytime soon. There appears to be 1 waiter for the dining room. And a high likelihood that you'll be confronted with the same service. The server seemed more engaged and responsive with the French customers - so perhaps if you're French you'll receive acceptable service here. Otherwise, stay away.
