Don't EVER hire this company. I moved into a house with a 3 year old roof, and came to find out…read morevery quickly that the previous owner took the lowest bidder when looking for a contractor. The first night we spent in the house, the rain leaked through the front entryway. We tracked down the name of this company from the previous owner, and Mike Garcousha came out, looked at the roof, and said it was all installed correctly. So, apparently correctly installed roofs leak. A year later, with a now 4 year old roof, a tile blew off an edge over the back porch and broke. After being quoted $250 to fix the problem, all of my calls and emails were ignored for 4 months. Finally, Garcousha responded with the reply that it would NOT be covered under warranty, even though I have his previous emails and price quotes. He then suggested I call him with any questions, because, I assume, phone calls aren't put in writing. Good thinking, Mike. Whoever installed this roof in the first place did a terrible job, left areas that leak, left a pile of unused tiles on the roof, and improperly installed the edge over the back patio so that the wind catches it and tiles blow off. I sent him pictures of both edges-- they do not match-- one of them is installed wrong. He says wind is not covered, but the INSTALLATION was shoddy. And I guess rain is not covered, either. So, if you get a roof from these people don't expect it to stay attached or keep the rain out. Not only is the workmanship terrible, but they won't honor their warranty or take any accountability for their work when you call them on it. Don't EVER EVER hire this company to do ANYTHING to your house. Very shady. I got stuck with the previous owner trying to get cheap work done, and she definitely got what she paid for. Terrible product, terrible craftsmanship, and terrible follow through with honoring any warranty or accountability on their work. This business should not be in business.

I had to have to 3/8 angle valve replaced for my new dishwasher. I called and was given an…read moreappointment right away. SVP was able to come out the next morning. Ray came to replace the piece. Unfortunately when he went to replace it had corroded and had to be replaced. The original was over 25 years old and plastic so it snapped off. He replaced it with a copper fitting and the valve now turns on and off easily for the dishwasher. Ray was great and explained what was going on and showed me all of what he was replacing and how the valve should have been working all along. I appreciated the lesson in plumbing. The price was reasonable compared to working with other plumbers. I highly recommend SVP and will call again for plumbing issues that arise. Ray was great to work with.

Don told us the problem was that our balcony floor was flat and that when it rained the water was pooling at the base of the balcony and leaking into the downstairs ceiling. He told us if we redid the balcony floor and sloped it the leak would stop. We paid $2500 for Don to rebuild the balcony floor since we were told this would stop the leak. The leak never stopped. We have had to call Don back 4 times (after each large rainstorm) because the ceiling was continuing to leak. Each time Don would come out and claim to fix the leak. After the first large rainstorm this winter in December we woke up to water leaking into our living room from the same spot in the ceiling. We texted Don again and told him the ceiling was continuing to leak. He came out about a week later and said he fixed the leak. A week later, during the next large rainstorm, my son and I were sitting on the couch when water started pouring onto our heads from the same spot on the living room ceiling. We again texted Don to tell him the leak was still there. He came out over 2 weeks later, did some work and said he fixed the leak. His helper handed me an invoice for $2,000. At no point were we ever informed that this work wasn't covered under the original warranty. We were never given an estimate and were never told we were being charged. We never signed a new contract or agreed to pay anything. We would not have agreed to pay thousands more to fix something we already paid him thousands to fix. Don is now threatening to place a lien on my home if we don't pay him the additional money. I have asked for receipts for the materials purchased and he refuses to give them to me. I have spoken to two construction attorneys and Don has no claim to additional money and there is no case to place a lien. Don is taking advantage of the mechanical lien process in an attempt to bully me into paying thousands more for a job I already paid him for. Filing a lien when there is no contract or agreement to pay in place is fraudulent and unethical. I would stay far far away from this company and Don.

What lead me to Swinks: I tried to take shortcuts to save money by using local gardeners but ended up getting the short end of the stick. The local gardener I used was one that my neighbors use for their weekly maintenance. The guy talked a long game but in the end lied and cheated. From the moment we met Mark, he seemed to understand what we were after, taking into consideration our needs (handicap-accessible) and specific desires (baja shelf, water feature, free-form pool shape). Chris helped us choose tile, rock and concrete that would best compliment our existing backyard and porch, and Blaise was instrumental in making sure everything was to our specifications, from the placement of handrails to depth of the shelf, and bringing things to code in terms of updating gates and fences. Cesar was our point of contact throughout the process, and he kept us updated every step of the way, so we never had to wonder where we were at in the project. Any questions we had were answered promptly. The team operated quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up after each day's work was completed. They treated our property like it was their own. Angel, Renee, Angela and everyone in the Swink's office were professional and welcoming, and we really felt taken care of. The project was started in mid-August and we were enjoying our gorgeous hot tub, pool and fire pit by Veteran's Day; at least a month ahead of schedule!
