Another Sorority Sister and I went to Star yesterday to get Melissa two jars of Golden Eagle. In general, any sauce or unique condiment you want is generally available at Star Market! Hubs and I love "Bishop's 3 'N' 1 Stuff Barbecue Sauce" and it's only available at Star Market. Try Bishop's it's good on any type of meat! We browsed around a little and per usual, their meat department was well stocked and well displayed. Hubs did not want a Terry's pizza this time and I by passed that little department in the back. Star Market carries unique and regional things like delicious pimento cheeses and I think I've seen Chicken Salad Chick for sale in Star, also. Sister and I wine shopped because Star Market typically carried a great selection of inexpensive unoaked white wines (Simply Naked was the label and they make unoaked Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay) that I enjoyed and now they don't appear to carry the Simply Naked brand. We did get a chilled Kim Crawford unoaked Chardonnay which was good! The staff are always friendly and helpful and most importantly chatty as you check out at Star Market. For Terry's Pizza (and Terry's lasagna) either baked at Star or take and bake; a great variety of delicious meats; good wine selection; and unique sauces, condiments, and refrigerated local items, definitely go to Star Super Market. Star is locally owned and operated and has served this region since 1944.

Publix has created a solid reputation by offering incredible customer service, great BOGO (buy one, get one free) deals and we cannot forget their subs, which are affectionately known as "Pub Subs." Coming from New Jersey, a state known for their great subs, in a way it hurts me to state that a supermarket has some of the best subs in the area. But it is also a 100% true statement. Publix subs are very good. My go-to sub is probably their Italian sub, which is truly a tasty offering. I also enjoy their roast beef and cheese sub. I would definitely recommend upgrading it by using Boar's Head meat. It is definitely worth the small upcharge. It is great to see Publix expanding beyond the boundaries of their home state of Florida and spreading throughout the southeast. Not only am I happy about it, but I am confident that the communities that Publix opens a location in are very grateful for a Publix opening by them. The pharmacy drive through is slow af most of the time. Inside and out they require your birth date, address, and signature to pick up your medicine. One of these should be sufficient. The deli is slow and doesn't stay stocked half the time with popcorn chicken and sides. The prepared foods in the refrigerated case are hit or miss plus a lot of the items are not secured on both sides. It's gotten to where I don't trust anything from there. God how I wish there was another grocery store to choose from that's not so far out of my way especially when driving to work.

The manner in which this was handled felt far beyond a simple policy reminder--it felt uncomfortable. As an African-American family, the interaction left us feeling singled out and disrespected in a place we had previously felt welcome. No customer should be made to feel this way--especially in a business we've supported repeatedly. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others, particularly African-American families, to think twice before visiting this location.

There was only one checkout line available and I was second in line with only a few items and the person in front had a large basket full. There was a younger man behind me, also with a few items. I asked if there were no express lines open and the cashier said no when all of the sudden a female employee from the front of the store motioned for the young man behind me to come to the front so she could check him out. I was frustrated because it looked like there was some favoritism going on based on ethnicity since they were both the same and I am white. I just left my basket of items and walked out, never to return. I'm not saying all of Publix has a preference in who gets good customer service, but it sure did look like they got at least one employee who does. I don't need this kind of stuff in my life and I'm happy to give my business to others since there are plenty of options other than Publix available. Publix lost a longtime customer today.
