Good mix of barbers here. The barber that cut my hair did a great job. He didn't fuss around spraying my hair with a bunch of water and combing it all this way and that. He just left my hair the way it was and trimmed it back to the length I wanted. He cut it nice and even and it laid in-place without any hair product. Ive learned that as most barbers are, they are quite short and cranky if you don't know them or what you want, especially. I through caution to the wind and sat down in a vintage barber chair. Finishing up his lunch, he took me at his chair. And after liter bottle of soda, I wasn't the easiest, having to recuse myself to pee. Twice. Now, Mike, he takes his time. And you feel it with patience and touch to your disheveled head to make it, well, better if not best. He has incredible stories of him as a musician touring, handling logistics and production for talent from what I assess. And while seeming to be punk music curmudgeon emblazoned in tattoes and a beard, he is a softy who listens to death cab for cutie and the postal service. That said. Best cut ever. read more

This is my BF second visit and now I really love this place!! He looks great! I really love his new cut!! We walked in on Sunday afternoon and they weren't that busy so my BF was quickly seated and was ready to get his haircut. My BF never gets a cut so any recommendations from the barbers are helpful. He told the barber what he wanted and the barber made some suggestions but really he just wanted it short on the sides and a little on the top. The barber really took his time and after waiting for a little bit I stepped out to do some shopping around the area. When I got back the barber was just finishing up. He literally took like an hour cutting his hair. When he was done he placed a warm washcloth over his face to whip off the small hair clippings and styled my BF hair with some product. If you come here, you have to ask for Hayden! He's a very talented barber and exceeded my expectations when I came in looking for a haircut. He placed a great deal of effort and time into asking what I wanted out of my haircut and went at it. He would also ask for my preferences during each step while working through the cut. It usually feels forced chatting with the barber while getting my cuts, but Hayden is actually a very great conversationalist. The conversations we had made the haircut seem to go by very fast and next thing you know, he's already spent almost an hour cutting my hair! The amount of time he spent on my hair alone and the results of the cut shows me that he is someone who takes a lot of pride in his craft. I love this place. Have been here a handful of times since I moved to orange in July 2020 for hair and beard trims. I think I've had a different person each time and all very friendly and professional. They finish with a shave and a hot towel making you feel very fresh. Tips: 1. come on a weekday. I stumbled upon this barbershop with my son. When I first walked in I almost walked out. I wasn't sure what to expect but I can tell you that I wasn't welcomed with smiles. Nevertheless, I was asked right away how I could be helped. They were able to take my son immediately. Darryl, was very serious but nice. He was very receptive to what my son wanted and did an amazing job. I shared with him the issues we have with styling my son's hair and he was kind enough to give me some tips on how to style it. It appeared to me that he was passionate about his job and careful with details. I think he used a straight razor around the edges which gave the end result a meticulous look. My son said he loved his haircut and he liked Darryl. LOL! The haircut was $25 and worth every penny. It would be nice if the guys were a little friendlier but that would just be a bonus. I went in to get my undercut redone by Patrick, who did it wonderfully once before. I showed him the same exact reference photo and even kept it on my screen until he told me he no longer needed to see it. The picture of me in the grey shirt is what it looked like when he cut it a couple months ago (which is the reason I am giving more than a one star review); the second photo is from today. I genuinely cried in my car after this haircut. He only asked for $5 (I only had $4 in singles though so that's what I ended up paying) and apologized multiple times, but this was a colossal mess up. The lines are uneven, it isn't tapered, there are lines that start and then never go anywhere, and there are multiple places where he cut way too much. Additionally, he cut too high on one side and accidentally cut away hair that wasn't part of the undercut which resulted in multiple chunks of hair falling out when I undid my ponytail. He's a nice guy but I was highly, highly disappointed. My dad drove over an hour to me in order to fix it himself, but it was barely salvageable. I unfortunately will not be getting my undercut done here anymore. read more

I recommend circle city barbers. They give a really quality men's haircut and beard trim. It's reasonably priced too ($25 for a haircut and $5 for a beard trim). The barbers might look a little rough and tough but they're all very friendly and provide interesting conversation. I also enjoy the music and/or movies they put on the tv. Eric has been cutting my hair for 20 years. There are few barbers like this and even fewer that are as good as Circle City. Still do straight razor shaves and clean-ups. Real pomade and real softcore porn on the coffee table. You might have to wait if you just show up, especially if you want Eric to cut your hair. I suggest calling first or bringing your laptop and getting some work done at any one of the twenty Starbucks in the immediate area or maybe getting a cold beer at Paul's. These guys are legit. Really neat place. Have never been to a barber that has a "walk-in-only" policy, but I could tell it matched the speed of the guys working there. Some of the reviews have scathed their lack of appointments, or even the gruffness of the guys themselves, but I can only speak for my experience. The vibe is great as soon as you walk in and we were greeted by both barbers, which I found out were the owners of the shop. I told my barber (I forgot his name but he was the barber all the way to the left) how I wanted my hair cut and he listened to me and made it look better than I thought it would. He was precise on cleaning up around my neck and ears with a straight razor with warm foam and used a hot towel to clean off the hair. The atmosphere was pretty badass. Two Harley Davidson in the center of the shop, one of which was a 1955 Harley and both belonged to my barber. There were a lot of old school posters and biker helmets everywhere. But don't get me wrong, it's not like a biker bar, anyone can go here and feel comfortable. They have a TV and magazines while you wait. Haircut was $20 and worth every penny. I was walking to class and I saw this barber shop as it's close to Chapman, i walked and immediately the guy who's station is closest to the door as their is clear reception area. I started explaining to him my situation and he just kept cutting me off and telling me to sit down someone will be with me and keep in mind their was. NO ONNNNEEEE in the barbershop super homophobic vibes. I was like ok maybe he is just having a bad day. He just tells me to come back after my class and I didn't have to make an appt Wich was my original question. I come back just for the guys to "hot potato"me around bouncing me from dude to dude claiming they had clients coming right in when the whole time I was getting my chair cut 1 client came in and it was a WALK IN not an appt. I would call them barbers but dead ass that would be going to far. I asked for a skin mid fade. And anyone who is in this business SHOULD KNOW that technicality's in haircuts such as placements for the fade line is a base but the barber should ADAPT TO THE SHAPE OF THE HEAD. he didn't and he went too high Which is preference Which is what I was trying to tell him but he kept dismissing me saying technically what I had was a mid fade Which was not the point of what I was trying to say another person who cuts hair jumped in and defended him. Very disappointed. For one star, I am going to try and be careful with my words, and add some context. I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, but I need to give some constructive criticism. I have been a customer of Floyd's 99 barbershop (the chain) for four years. Today, November 30, I wanted to visit a "local" barbershop because it is small business Saturday. I read a bunch of the previous comments and reviews, and it sounds like the shop owners are guys named Phil and Eric. I don't believe one of them cut my hair. I can only hope that is the reason for the poor service - That I did not have one of them. The young man who cut my hair it was in his 20s, a white guy, with glasses. The only reason I mention that is so that the managers who might be reading this, will know who I'm talking about and hopefully not like him barber there. I made some small talk at the beginning, and I told him my typical haircut description, which is not to taper my haircut in, and to leave me some length at the top so I could style it. That was my ONE instruction to him. The kid moved SO fast with his clippers. Not smooth technique at all. He didn't bother to ask midway through the cut to see how I liked it so far. That would have allowed me the chance to provide some feedback. He didn't take his time. He was moving twice as fast as any of the rest of the barbers in the place. Fast is OK if it's smooth, but otherwise I feel everyone of those jabs on my scalp. When you move too fast with the clippers it grabs your hair at the roots and tears it out. Absolutely ridiculous. He should know that as a trained barber. About 3/4 of the way through, I got fed up and I just said "dude slow down" in a stern voice. He stopped and started mumbling something under his breath. Didn't slow down like I asked. I didn't say another word, Just bit my tongue and accepted that I was going to have to deal with it. Two of the other barbers in the place noticed but kept going about their business. Right as he was wrapping up, the guy had the nerve to say "sometimes fast is a indication of competence". I just bit my tongue, and told him "you did the one thing I told you not to do." Him copping an attitude like that was just too much. Communicated that not only did he not care about the customer, he wasn't of the mindset to receive feedback and criticism. Attitude is everything in business. Particularly in the customer service industry. I hate to say it, but that young man needs some humble pie. Technique aside, he should at least be able to follow instructions. He didn't. On the way out, the shop owner made eye contact with me, and I just shook my head and pointed back at my barber. Thought it would have a hipster craftsman vibe That you would expect from a local shop. Sadly, it fell far short. Still $25 for a cut, I didn't tip. For $2.50 more I could just go to Floyd's. At Floyd's, I just feel like there is better customer service. They are listening. Nobody is perfect. Yes, Floyds is corporate, but that also means they have certain standards That might exceed a local shop, on average. Some of the guys at these local shops just can't meet those standards, Or at least my barber today did not. I'm sure there are true craftsman out there, who are good and talented enough to have their own barbershop And not go work for a corporate place like Floyds. Maybe Phil and Eric are guys like that. But I don't have the time to waste looking for them. Unfortunately, I won't be back. read more

I got a decent fade here and all of the chairs were full when I walked in except for one, so I was able to be helped right away. The place however seemed to be popping for a Tuesday AM. The barbers were having some derogatory banter back and forth that made me feel uncomfortable, but whatever -- I can see past that. The barber doing my cut later went on a rant about how he was pissed because "some asshole" messaged him on Yelp looking for an appointment. I've got a problem with people who complain about money coming in. Shut the notifications off and shut up. It was ME who was looking for an appointment. I had never been to an authentic barbershop before. I was recommended by a good friend to try Circle City out and I'm so glad I did. I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous having only gone to salons prior but honestly the vibe and the barbers are all so friendly. I have now gone multiple times to visit Hayden and I will literally never go to anyone else for a haircut.
