The barn and some of the cabins are a century old, and Charlie Russell, the famous painter of the West, lived nearby.

You can visit the site of the forlorn Mercantile, but the doors are shuttered. The woman who runs the bar lives 35 miles east of town and kinda sorta comes in whenever the mood moves her as I understand it. The hotel is rickety and way past it's best days. One bathroom for 13 rooms and you can't lock your room door when you leave. No one around to steal your stuff anyway, so that's not an issue really. The door to our room had a 2"-3" gap at the top and, truth be told, wouldn't even stay shut without pushing clothes or a chair up against it. When people arrive late (midnight one night we were there) you hear every word they say as they shuffle in. All the rooms are down a single hall on the upper floor. Noisy I tell ya. The owners are warm and accommodating. The food is average at best, but as it's the only place to sleep or eat within 30 miles ... I have back packed through parts of Eastern Europe and stayed in a few places that are rough and tumble. Crazy Mountain Inn could be one of them. Still, all in all, a fun little place with happy folks all around.

Overall it's a decent place IF you get the right room, but it's also quite rundown, especially in the hallway near the washing machines. The floor needs replacing, but let me get into this room review. 1st of all let me say that the first two times we stayed here it was just barely enough room for my family, they do not offer rooms with a third couch bed so we had to fit two adults and three children onto two queen beds and that was difficult. But other than that, the other two times were decent and we had no issues. This time they put us in room 123 Which Was Way down the hall on the first floor on the left. At first it seemed fine, but then we started noticing. There was crap all over the floor that needed to be vacuumed up and then we pulled a bedsheet back and there was hairs all over the place, it looked like it had been remade after being used and then just re-sold. But what made me really upset was my wife found a crumpled up tissue under one of the pillows on the bed. That was it, I went down to the office and complained and they said they would find us a new room and by the time I came back to the room, it stunk so bad that I was going to throw up. Apparently, when the toilet gets flushed, it releases a massive amount of disgusting smell that filled the entire room so even without those first problems, I would've immediately left the room to prevent myself from throwing up and would've stayed in the lobby in a chair instead of in that room if there was no other rooms available. Thankfully, that was not the case, and they put us across the hall in room 122, and this room was just about perfect. In every way, it didn't stink, it was clean, everything was fine. And the only problem was the very tight sleeping situation. So for the first two stays and this third stay, I will give them overall a four star rating. They were very nice and helpful, even the nice lady at night who was probably dealing with all sorts of stuff like that, she was very helpful and very nice. And then their breakfast was nice too. It's not the fanciest breakfast in the world, but it has a waffle maker and that's always nice and then there are miscellaneous fruits and muffins and eggs and stuff like that. Overall, if you don't have too many people, I do recommend this hotel, however, be very careful about the room you get and make sure to check everything.

Getting an…read moreappointment for anywhere in Western Montata for a commercial driver's license renewal is impossible within a month. We opted to go for a drive and have some vacation time in Lewistown (wow) as they had the earliest opening for an appointment. I booked 3 nights and we actually showed up a day early. After some creative juggling on the part of the night attendant, we got a room. It was noticed the next morning by the assistant manager that we were bumped from our 3 nights as the night person cancelled our original reservation and gave us 3 nights in the new room without the last one. That was the actual date of the appointment so it was imperative that we stayed the extra night. Again, some creative juggling and boom! we had a room for the last night. Every morning the breakfast room was set up with a basic but accecptable offering. Unfortunately, with food allergies, I could only partake in the oatmeal but I'm not picky so as my husband enjoyed his Belgian Waffle, I slopped down"mush"as he calls it with my gluten free muffin I brought with me. The cleaning staff was on the ball and the room was clean and sheets were crisp. My husband's biggest complaint was that they must have been trained by military personell as the sheets were firmly tucked in! He is a bare foot in the wind sleeper. The beds were very comfortable and as a bonus, there was a bench near a small picnic table with umbrella in the shade of the building for a smoking section he enjoyed with his daily cigar and chit chat with guests and the occasional staff on break or lunch. All in all, as we spent a total of about a half hour with the licensing department and business was successfully completed, the trip was an outstanding success. Our thanks to the friendly staff at the Super 8 in Lewistown! If we pass through again, we will definitely stay at your establishment.

The staff was very friendly and kind, the gourmet chef was UNBELIEVABLE in the attached restaurant. From the room charge to the restaurant everything was super affordable. This place is a hidden secret that everyone should know about! It is open year round to boot! I can't imagine driving the gravel road we came in on in winter but they say it is kept plowed and people come from everywhere to visit their restaurant and enjoy nature. I believe it! As if the clean lodge with comfy beds and Dish TV/WiFi wasn't enough, there were miles of quiet, easy to walk, groomed trails to hike right from the lodge! Do you like nature? We woke up to two mule deer peacefully grazing on the lawn in front of our room. So beautiful! Last but not least, to drive through Lewistown and NOT stop at Judith Mountain Lodge (its worth the drive) for at least a piece of the chefs award winning cheesecake or chocolate cake would be an absolute sin. While you are at it order something off the incredible menu. I ordered a Ribeye steak that was huge! I felt like Fred Flintstone in the intro to the cartoon when he orders a steak and when it comes it flips his stone car over! LOL! All the beef is grass fed and raised on local ranches. I can't sing the praises of this lodge enough. I can hardly wait to go back someday! Tammy K. Fall Creek, Wisconsin
