You can visit the site of the forlorn Mercantile, but the doors are shuttered.The woman who runs the bar lives 35 miles east of town and kinda sorta comes in whenever the mood moves her as I understand it. The hotel is rickety and way past it's best days. One bathroom for 13 rooms and you can't lock your room door when you leave. No one around to steal your stuff anyway, so that's not an issue really. The door to our room had a 2"-3" gap at the top and, truth be told, wouldn't even stay shut without pushing clothes or a chair up against it. When people arrive late (midnight one night we were there) you hear every word they say as they shuffle in. All the rooms are down a single hall on the upper floor. Noisy I tell ya. The owners are warm and accommodating. The food is average at best, but as it's the only place to sleep or eat within 30 miles ... I have back packed through parts of Eastern Europe and stayed in a few places that are rough and tumble. Crazy Mountain Inn could be one of them. Still, all in all, a fun little place with happy folks all around.

They had a morning and afternoon ride available each day. We also enjoyed many of the other activities. We did the cave hike twice and loved tromping through the river. The archery was basic, but fun. We didn't make it to the shooting, but other people said they enjoyed it. The ride out to Charlie Russell's cabin was great. And, we even got to catch a night of the cowboy poetry. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and ensure you have a great experience. The food was great and more than just meat and potatoes. Snacks were available between meals. They're still BYOB, but you pass plenty of stores on the way in and there's a small fridge in the cabin to keep things cold. The only thing to note is that this is a rustic experience. This was our first dude ranch experience and it was perfect for us, but I know that many other dude ranches are like spas with horses. We weren't looking for that so no issues for us.

We called management and they then disclosed that the owners friends decided to come to the home early and they couldn't kick them out due to the home already being rented. Management then said we had to find a new rental (this was literally upon arrival without telling us ahead of time). Like hell my friends and I were going to book another property through Ascend. We scrambled and found another home like I said previously "day of" that would accommodate us for our trip. Ascend ended up paying us back the money but they should have also paid for our new rental as it was appalling that we had to scramble to find new accommodations upon arriving at their trashed rental property that we were supposed to be staying in.

I watched his other interactions with other people and he was just as rude and uninterested as he was with me. The rooms were old and outdated. Our door slammed like crazy and the hinges were super loose it didn't even seem like the door was secure when shut. The arcade was the only positive part of the experience we had. Other than that, we will NEVER stay here again and I genuinely hope Eli gets some serious training on customer service and proper social skills. Andrew needs a visit to the Wizard of Oz to ask for some courage. I never would allow a coworker to speak to a customer/guest the way Eli did and just stand there blankly.
