This place sucks. I had to drive to Evanston, which I knew but still. Then no place to park except paid parking. Then I had to walk for 5 min to get to the building. The instruction said to check in with the security guard and guess what,? No security guard. Call the direct line and was told someone would get me. Waited another ten min for him to get me. I was taken to a small, tiny office. Then, I was offered the lowest price I had received for my watches. This place SUCKS. Don't waste your time with this company. I sold my mother's ring to Circa Jewelers. They cut a check on the spot and are very understanding that the decision can be emotional. I knew going into it that I would not get nearly close to the appraised value of the ring but I was told that by the appraiser as well. My point is, if you are holding onto a valuable piece that you don't use and don't like aesthetically, you might want to consider selling it and using the money for something that truly IS you. the idea of keeping heirlooms, in my opinion, is becoming antiquated-holding onto something forever just to hold onto it benefits no one. The lady I met with was extremely courteous, helpful and kind. She was willing to see me on the same day that I called and explained how she valued each of the items I brought. She even provided me with background on the jewelry resale industry and what sells well and what doesn't--in her line of business. I think that last is very important. If you have unique TRULY one-of-a-kind pieces, I believe this is your best bet. But, I had your standard, run of the mill, jewelry (diamond wedding band, Omega watch, strand of pearls), none of which would sell for very much to this company's demographic. Therefore, she made me an offer that was well below what I anticipated and I went home and decided to try my hand on eBay. I'm really glad I did, b/c I was able to sell just TWO of the 5-6 things I brought for her for more than 3x what she offered. Take this with a grain of salt! read more

The office was nice and the receptionist. They offer you a low amount, which is fine, but the insults were too much for me. telling me this is nothing special and at retail this piece would be 12k, it's just diamonds and gold and offering 2400 is highway robbery and you could have kept the commentary. I know the jewelry market very well, decided to sell because they're items that were bought for me that I didn't really care for. Needless to say I didn't sell them. I set up an appointment with Ed. Walked in to a beautiful office with a nice receptionist who took my name and asked me to take a seat. In only a few minutes Ed came and greeted me and walked me to his evaluation room. He was very nice and explained everything to me. He let me know the positive and negative aspects of each piece, and gave me an idea of what he would cut me a check for that very minute if I were up to it. I told him I had to think about it and he totally understood. In fact, he encouraged me to sleep on it for a few days and said his offer would be good for a week. Although I didn't sell the jewelery, when it comes time to sell it, I will likely go back to Circa. I have sold other jewelery elsewhere and usually it is a very uncomfortable situation. If you are in the market to sell some jewelry, the only other place in this whole city I would recommend to you to consider selling at is A&R Estate Buyers with Keith. He was also amazing. This was my first time reselling jewelry. I was not sure what to expect - but in my suspicious mind I was fearing the worst. The opposite could not have been truer! I called and had an appointment immediately, met with Carter Davies who was on time, very professional, and was very willing to answer all of my questions. I had a mix of gold, silver, and gems. CIRCA does not deal with silver, but for the remaining pieces I felt I was treated with honesty and very fairly. Every time I mentioned this to a friend. they told me to be careful how scary it can be, and how easily you get ripped off. I went to CIRCA. and I was treated very well. As you can imagine, it's emotional selling something under those circumstances, and the man with whom I worked didn't ask many probing questions to make an awkward situation. I came in with 14K and diamond rings appraised near $2400. The man who looked at them was very nice and extremely friendly, complimented my purchases and made me feel comfortable with the process. However, the offer made to buy them from me was $180. I would have sold them for 6% of their appraised value? Come on... I could have sold my rings for scrap and had gotten a better price for that! I didn't feel like I wasted my time, but I'm just glad I had my stuff appraised prior to potentially selling (it only cost 1% of the total appraised value --$24!). read more

I went to Circa with my Tiffany's Engagment ring. I thought after 2yrs of holding on to it, this was my time to move on. I saw their advertisment for buying "high end" Jewelry, so I was going to give them a shot. The receptionist was super nice. I went into a room with a lady who reviewed my ring she asked about the history on my ring, how much did I expect to get for it, she really talked down my ring... I was offered $800 dollars, for a $4000 dollar ring...???!!! I mean Circa wasnt going to resell my ring for $800. She then said " well what did you expect??? Thank god my sister was with me at this time. I knew she saw the shock on my face. I mean it was so uncomfortable. After about 5 mins. Of silence she then offered me $1000. She then once kept talking down my ring it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I thanked her and said no thanks to her offer. Maybe if she was a little more nice, i would have taken her second offer. My sister and I walked out , we couldn't believe about what a nightmare this experience this was. read more

I heard about Circa from the Eric & Kathy show from 101.9FM. They were talking one morning about what to do with your old rings you do not wear & are just holding onto. I found myself in the same boat being recently divorced. I had 2 sets of bands b/c I upgraded @ my 10yr to a platinum one that I truly still loved. I learned a lot from the appraiser. Bottom line is, do not invest in jewelery as an investment. A word of knowledge is, be prepared to get roughly 25% of what you actually paid for the jewelery! All this appraisal stuff (where it ususally appraises for double for what you pay is crap). All that does is make your insurance company more $$ when you decide to insure your jewelery. I got 25% of what I actually paid for all my pieces. I wondered if I should save my solitaire stone for one of my kids when they decide to marry, but I have 3 girls & which one would I give it to? Also, do I really want to pass bad luck down to my kids? Also, will my kids be marrying someone who cannot afford to buy my daughter a ring? What kind of guy would that be? So, I decided to sell it to Circa. I didn't want the piece for myself (made into a pendant) b/c it's bad luck to me. I don't want to be reminded of my marraige. I have 4 beautiful kids to look at from the positive side of the marraige & that's all I need. I plan on going back downtown with my other pieces of fine jewelery I have to get appraised & perhaps sell. I plan on hitting some other jewelers as well before I go just to see what they'd pay. But I think Circa is pretty fair & did cut the check right on the spot. I wasn't in a rush to sell the pieces for the $$, but I just wanted it out of my life. I did mention that I heard about them on the radio & I did counter their offer they gave me & they accepted it b/c I did tell them of the radio blurb I heard. So, it all went well.
