We stopped here on our way back home to NC for brunch, and thank goodness we did! The ambiance is incredible, very beautiful restaurant and great vibes. Our server and whole staff were so friendly, they made this experience wonderful. And of course, 1000 compliments to the chef. We got the gumbo, avocado chicken club, shrimp and grits, the mac and cheese and lima bean maque choux for sides, and the strawberry pecan cheesecake for dessert. Everything was so delicious. My husband and I are visiting from the Greenville area and found this restaurant through a web search. It was absolutely amazing! The old house setting was unique and elegant, and the service was great. I got the corvana fish with rice pilaf and grilled asparagus, and my husband got the same fish with grits and a salad. My husband and I drove from Athens to try this restaurant. We had the brunch. I had the frittata fresca which has asparagus and other veggies and cheese with a side of jalapeno grits. Absolutely delicious! My husband had the frittata new orleans with meat and home fried potatoes which were great as well. We each had a bloody mary. I cannot believe this restaurant is in this little town. It should be in midtown Atlanta. We ordered the duck nachos and fried green tomatoes for appetizers (forgot to take pics). Both were delicious, even though the nachos could have had some more duck. I ordered the duck breast which came with spinach and sweet potato, catfish with Gouda Mac and cheese, wedge salad which was meh, it needed more dressing, it was too dry. We ordered a pork loin glazed with grilled Brussel sprouts and Gouda Mac and cheese. Service was not the best. She was polite, but no refills of soda or water, blew raspberries when asked for xtra lemons and didn't even ask if we wanted dessert before asking on type of payment. read more

We went here for my wife's birthday for Sunday brunch a rare venue that is open on Sunday mornings in this region. It didn't disappoint. It's a really charming spot with some very delicious and fresh food. Perhaps one of the few proper brunch spots I've been around here. I definitely recommend stopping in if you haven't been before. Not sure what lunch was like, but the breakfast options were tremendous our friend got the frittata which she liked very much. My daughter got strawberry French toast which of course she loved; my wife was able to get one of her favorites, Eggs Benedict, which she said was very tasty. I got BLT biscuits and jalapeño cheddar grits, which were delicious. I also got a bloody Mary, which I hadn't had in years, and it was great. We had lunch at Circa 1918 and I cannot recommend it enough! So many yummy choices, we had a hard time choosing. We had the smash burger, the crab cake and the salmon BLT and bread pudding for dessert. Service and atmosphere were excellent and we can't wait to try it for dinner and/or brunch next. What a charming and special place. The owner Ron is a true gem. We came in from out of town and we had 8 in our party. From the amazing speakeasy to the airy and spacious dining room, our experience was phenomenal. The appetizers were a hit. We enjoyed the charcuterie plate, pimento cheese, and trout and it was more than enough for our party to enjoy down in the speakeasy. Then we enjoyed our entrees in the dining room enjoying the steak, pork tenderloin, and shrimp and grits with some of their fantastic sides including the Gouda Mac and cheese. My family visited Saturday for lunch and sampled a few options on their menu. We started with the stuffed quail over honey glazed grits, cups of the Low Country Gumbo, then shared the bison chopped steaks and an order of crab cakes with an assortment of sides. Outstanding Experience at Circa 1812! My wife and I moved to Lavonia from the Atlanta metro area in September 2024. We used to eat out frequently and had many wonderful dining options where we lived. Since settling in Lavonia permanently, it's been challenging to find nice restaurants with good food. Although we've driven by Circa 1812 many times, we had never tried it. Last night, we decided to give it a shot for the first time, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the wait staff, including the owner Ron. We ordered the shrimp and grits and roasted buttermilk chicken with rice pilaf instead of potatoes. My shrimp and grits also came with a salad, and I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette. We received a lovely surprise when they brought out a couple of homemade biscuits as a quick appetizer at no extra charge. Everything we ate was amazing. My wife and I continued to share bites, saying, "You must try this!" What was as impressive as the food was the time Ron spent with us, even though they were short-staffed. We just want to say that if Circa 1812 were in the metro ATL area, they would be mobbed--they're just that good. We will definitely be back often and look forward to trying other menu options! read more

LOVE this restaurant! It's less a mile from I85, exit 173. Beautiful Southern mansion that reminds me of Twelve Oaks in Gone with the Wind. Food is creative and wonderful, and service is very attentive. It's a great gem to stop between Atlanta and Greenville. Downtown Lavonia is right around the corner with charming train depot. This restaurant presents a nice atmosphere for dinner but food we received was not up to par. The waiter did a very good job. The biscuits/rolls given were stale, and the first taste was definitely not a good taste. The shrimp and grits were just ok, also did not taste freshly made. The Brussels sprouts were fried or air fried to oblivion, blackened, unable to eat. The chicken livers were just your basic prep and did not taste freshly made. The fries were pretty good. The fried green tomatoes were ok but the crust on them did not taste fresh or good. All in all, sadly I cannot recommend this restaurant for good food considering the $72 with tip cost. It does appear to have the potential for a quality enjoyable evening if they improve the quality of their food. read more

Circa 1918 is my new "go to" restaurant. From the moment we walked in to when we were leaving was such a great experience. The only thing we noticed was the girl who sat us, not sure if she was having a bad day, but wasn't so friendly to us. Our waiter, I believe his name is Cody, was so informative and knew the menu perfectly. We would definitely ask for him next time. The "ambiance " was beautiful and comfortable. The owner came out to our table and was so nice. He talked about the food, the restaurant, and some amazing future projects. (Which we will be going to) The food was so fresh and unbelievably delicious. Everything we ordered was spot on. The chef was even able to accommodate my dietary allergy, allergic to mushrooms, which was great because not many chefs would change something like that. Second time eating here last night. What a great new place to eat! Started with trout dip shared by our friends. It was great. Entrees were shrimp and grits, chicken, pork tenderloin, and filet of beef. ALL WERE VERY GOOD. I was most impressed that the little things were done well here. For example, not only were the entrees prepared well, but the vegetables and other sides were cooked properly. The bread pudding was a perfect ending to our meal. The setting of this old two story mansion is impressive. The tables set with tablecloths, nice china and silverware gave a professional impression, but still retained a casual welcoming feeling. The prices were actually a little less than I expected on some entrees, and the portion size was more than adequate. The Chef and kitchen staff obviously know what they are doing. The servers were great both times. Plus the owner was cruising around to insure things ran smooth. Last - the guests seemed to be a wide range, not just a bunch of rich "lake" people. The atmosphere in Circa 1918, located in an old home in downtown Lavonia, GA, is excellent with vibes of colonial elegance -high ceilings and fireplaces in every room. I was amazed at the variety of lunch appetizers, array of sandwiches and meals. I chose fried green tomatoes for an appetizer to share. And my meal was 2 large real crab cakes served with (a French name for the mixture) of corn, baby limas, and green bell peppers seasoned to perfection in a sauce like enhancement. For the 1 side, I chose broiled Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were crispy and flavorful. I loved this choice of a side. (The grilled asparagus was also noteworthy.) The cost of my meal was $15. The fried green tomatoes were fried in a cornmeal batter and served with relish on the side and blue cheese crumbles on top. BEST ones I've ever had. Our server was professional but seemed preoccupied with us, often forgetting what we just requested. (Please turn down the lovely classical music blasting in my ear.) I had to request twice. We were the only ones seated in that area; therefore, my request was not unreasonable. All in all, I give this restaurant top marks. Pricing was reasonable for the quality, portion, ambiance, and service we received. I can't wait to go one evening with friends to enjoy a delicious meal. (Reservations are recommended for evenings.) Circa 1918 has only been open a short time, but it was such a pleasant experience suitable for quiet conversation, business meetings, and family gatherings.
