I was in the Naugatuck store today to try to find sweet pepper relish. There was nothing in the…read morekind of an aisle except for the sweet green and dill relish. I found an employee stocking shelves in the next aisle over and asked him if he could help sweet pepper relish that they used to carry. He said that he believes they carried a brand called and if I would wait a few minutes, he would see if he could locate it for me. This employee seemed like he had some sort of a disability. His speech was a little unclear. He went above and beyond, trying to help me find this relish. After a few minutes, he came back and me still in the aisle, waiting for him and escorted me over to a section that carried local foods on a rack and there was the sweet pepper relish by that I was looking for. I just hope that this employee realizes that he gets a five star review. I do not remember his name, but he made a positive impression on me today.

This is by far one of the WORST Stop & Shops though. It always looks like a bomb went off...the shelves are always picked over and disorganized. Their purchasing department clearly sucks at their job, when something good goes on sale (i.e. Chobani for $1 a piece) they're cleaned out quickly and then the shelves are barren all week. Order enough to meet demand, I wouldn't think this is so hard. I prefer the one in Watertown, any of the ones in Waterbury, or Seymour better. The self-checkouts here suck. They give me more problems than any other Stop & Shop. I also wish that they'd get the scan-it guns so I could ring my stuff up AS I shop, but I suppose Naugatuck is like Torrington, full of raggies that make it too risky. (I had a friend who worked at one of the stores in Torrington who was told that shoplifting is why they don't have the option for scan-it...I would assume Naugatuck is the same.) The nice thing is that the store is rarely ever busy.

Walmart is my 'store of last resort', preferring to buy locally from small businesses. Sometimes, I…read morecan't find what i need, so a trip to the big box is required. This store is just like every other Walmart, except a bit cleaner with fewer wardrobe malfunctions. I know what I want, so it's enter, find it, pay, and leave. No browsing. No impulse shopping. The last time I was here was to replace a broken coffee maker. There were plenty in stock, so I had no problem making my purchase. If they were out of stock (and there were plenty of empty shelves), I would have felt sorry for anyone who I had contact with until I could find one.

I have never been so frustrated with a shopping experience. I ended up wasting over two hours…read morebecause Walmart's system went down, and the entire situation was handled terribly. Standing around for that long because of a company issue is completely unacceptable. What really upset me was the lack of urgency and communication. Customers were left waiting with little information, and it felt like no one had a real plan for dealing with the problem. For a company as large as Walmart, you'd think there would be a backup system or a better way to keep things moving when technology fails. After making customers wait for more than two hours because of an issue that wasn't our fault, the least Walmart could have done was offer some type of compensation, like a gift card, to show they value their customers' time. Instead, it felt like our time meant nothing. Walmart seriously needs to invest in better systems and have a plan in place for situations like this. No one should have to lose hours of their day just to complete a shopping trip. I hope management takes this seriously because if this is how customers are treated, it's no surprise people choose to shop elsewhere.

Well I know alot of people in town keep saying how they wished the old four corners grocery store…read moreis still there. But at some point the owners needed to retire and something new was bound to come in. This dollar general is fine. It's like a mini K-mart. It almost has a little bit of everything. You might get a little claustrophobic because the aisles are a little bit tight. It's nice to be able to pick up a black sharpie for kids school projects, or a birthday card, or some engine oil without having to drive 20 minutes out of town. I do wish the fresh food section was a little more extensive but you can't have everything in such a small space. I personally like the new DG Market. While it may not be the old four corners it certainly beats having an empty store front which is too common in small town USA.

The inventory control is so uneven as to be nearly non-existent, but that's not the worst part. The worst part by far is the store's manager, a surly man who has driven out countless good employees and angered an endless number of customers with his attitude, which seems to be at all times a thinly-veiled hatred of us all. I've done what I could to not go in there when I know the manager is working. I failed to remember this important point today, and Mr. Surly was his usual complaining, gruff self. I am completely aware that I am but one of literally dozens of people who have complained about this guy since that location opened. Are you really telling us that you can't find better people to run the place? He's got an assistant who is personable, hard-working, and courteous. In what universe should he be working for a man like that manager? This store is the only one in the region that closes at 9PM, owing to their head man having angered people from the day they opened. I have news for DG. The hours they're open was never the problem. I am absolutely done trying to buy anything here, even though they are close to me and do sell things the other ones usually don't carry. It doesn't matter. The Chase store in Waterbury and the Naugatuck locations both have people who are so much better at what they do. Maybe they could send one of those managers there to teach this clown things like customer service and responsive management?
