This review is completely a reflection of your failure to deny entry to people who feel the need to their no service dogs to the grocery store. Thanks to to another customer I was able to avoid the aisle full of dog poop which had been run over by a cart and smeared down the hall. I saw the dog I multple aisles with their owner struggling to get them under control. Later on I saw another woman with a dog lying in the top of the carriage. Hopefully the next person to use that carriage sanitizes it. The only dogs who belong in the grocery store are those performing a service their owners require. Picking something off the shelf, maintaining balance of the owner, alerting for low blood sugar and seizures ect. If you want take your dog shopping go to a pet store, Home Depot, or Tractor Supply, not the grocery store. read more

I do not recommend buying the "Big Y" packaged meat or their produce at this location. I've had instances with all of their berries where when I go to wash them I find mold on the ones in the middle (unable to be seen upon original examination of the packaging). I have bought ground beef only to open my fridge the next day and it's gone gray twice. I keep trying to give the store a chance but I will no longer be using it for anything fresh. I don't think this location takes things off the shelf that aren't as fresh as they should be. read more

Only place I go for almost everything on my shopping list. I get of their roasted chickens once a week. Helps keep me on my eating plan and I'm really not that great at roasting them myself. Another must have I 4Seasons green tea with honey & lemon packets. I do usually wait for a sale but y then I stock up. Only bad day at Big Y was the day it poured and I got drenched. Big Y markets seem to be the best of the supermarkets in CT but that is not saying much. I moved here from an area of the country that had Kroger and Publix Markets that were exceptional, so none of the supermarkets here are even close when compared. The bakery at Naugatuck Big Y is very nice. The store is lacking in healthy options for vegans and they do not carry any decent tasting fresh salsa. I go to Stop and Shop in Cheshire for that. They really need to work having more baggers. Most of the time the checkers end up bagging my groceries and do a poor job. Heavy things on top of eggs and smashed bread items are not uncommon. Another problem is shopping carts all over the parking lot. It is true that the fault lies with the lazy customers who do not put their carts back in the designated area. However, knowing this is true, an employee needs to be sent to the parking lot frequently to collect the stray carts to cut down on damage to cars. I suggest the corporation sent people to learn how things are done at stores like Publix that are rated high in customer satisfaction. read more

Went to Big Y in Naugatuck today and saw the Bakery and couldn't resist. Everything looked so good. Ended up picking the Chocolate Truffle Bomb. It was amazing. Moist and tasty. Big round ball of yum. Layers of chocolate cake and moose layers. Big enough to feed a group. Good price for a great tasting cake. If you love chocolate you'll love this. The people in Bakery are super friendly and chatty which is nice. Definitely will be back. When you walk in on left is their yummy roast chicken. It's a great size. Skin crispy. Lots of juicy meat. Lots of juice in bottom it comes with as well. Great price for roast chicken that's so yummy. Also tried the bag of chicken tenders which were good to. Groceries in store seem high. Had few sales which were great. The Meats selection was great. Steaks were on sale and were nice cuts of meat. Nice thickness. Definitely will grill them up tomorrow. I really hate Big Y...they're always far more expensive than any other grocery store, and their coin scheme is pointless. Instead of wasting money manufacturing the coins...make the stuff the silver coin price all the time! This place is always a mob scene, I end up stopping here after work because I drive right past it on my way home, I only come to grab 2 or 3 things and it ends up being a 20 minute charade. Their grinders are good, and if you manage to win a gold coin at the slot machine game at the register you can't really beat the price, less than $4 for a 12 inch. I get irritated when they don't have french bread though, the italian isn't crusty enough. The one thing I like them better for than Stop & Shop is the meat department. At least here you can walk in and buy a single hamburger patty from the butcher counter. (Which is helpful for me because I live alone and I'm not a fan of buying 4-6 patties at a time.) read more

I take Yelp reviews seriously before leaving a negative review but the young people in this store have terrible attitudes. I got off work after a 12 hour day and wanted a Stromboli and when I asked the clerk what the two remaining were. She was annoyed and guessed that one of them was bacon. I asked her if they have been sitting out long and she said no. It tasted like it was under the heat lamp all day. No personality, just wanted to get rid of me. Then I get to the checkout and the payment kept displaying a please wait code. I asked you young attendant what was wrong. She was busy wiping down another self service station and was annoyed that I asked her what the issue was. She gave me a lecture on how I didn't hit the pay now button. Covid or not, I'm sick of these young people and their petty attitude. I work 50+ hours a week and don't need it. I will just continue going to LeBonne's where they appreciate their customers. I love Bigy go there for everything. However I'm tired of the meat always going bad. This is the second time I've gotten a strip steak where it smells sour right after opening it , and there was still two days left until the use or freeze date. Steaks aren't cheap either. read more

We just moved back to CT after several years out of state. I remember Big Y to be a wonderful store. Great prices, awesome specials, good quality of their prepared foods. A few days ago, I shopped at Big Y in Naugatuck and was appalled at how downhill the store has gone! The prices were extremely high compared to other stores in the area, and there were few if any specials and of the specials they had, the product was sold out. Most disappointing was that the quality of the prepared foods was terrible. For example, we purchased a rotisserie chicken and "Just Like Moms" red skin potato salad. The chicken was very small and more expensive than other stores and had an odd flavor. It was almost a mix between BBQ and Asian - not good. The potato salad was completely inedible. The potatoes were rubbery and the sauce was like water. Thank you for making me a ShopRite or Market 32 shopper. It is well worth the few extra miles for their high quality and much lower prices. Their beer section is plentiful and awesome if you're looking to try something new. Everyone is very helpful, I haven't met a rude employee. I'm not sure why they aren't ranked higher. I find their prices to be more reasonable than Stop&Shop. I can buy the same groceries at S&S, and pay $100 versus the $80 that I pay at Big Y. I love the butcher counter- the shaved steak and lean ground beef are always good and so are their sausage grillers. Lisa and Ryan behind the deli counter are always phenomenal to work with. They now have sushi which is fairly new and it's good too! Their 30 inch grinder is perfect for smaller get togethers. We used them for 6 30inch grinders last May for our gender reveal party and everyone raved about how great it was. They also have but 1 get 1 or buy 1 get 2 deals frequently. I just got frozen crab meat buy 1 get 2 for $4.99 a package. Strawberries at buy 1 get 2 for $5.49 a package. You can't go wrong here. read more

Fresh 6 inch grinders For only $3.25! What?! Boar's head meat build your own just like Subway but better ;) You can choose from French, Italian, or Wheat bread. Then you have the choice of italian combo, rotisserie chicken, chicken tenders, ham and cheese, or what ever other cold cut meat. They also have the same veggie selection as Subway, but the lettuce is cut fresh, as well as the tomatoes. You can grab a snapple or a soda out of the soda case right next to the sandwich counter, as well as a bag of pretzal chips. Total cost of a good lunch = around $6.50. That is not a bad deal. At lunch time during the week there is usually a line, so I would suggest calling ahead and ordering. There are also soups and other pre-made sandwiches in the deli case conviently located next to the sandwich counter. What I like as much as the price? The employees are clean! They change their gloves when making your sandwich and actually take them off before they use the cash register. Great price, great quality, great service. I love the grinders from Big Y! read more

Just got a Mac n cheese pizza which is delicious. If it's cooked mine was raw as well as 2 paninis from the sandwich shop on nasty ciabatta bread barely toasted and Luke warm. I'm so tired of just accepting the lack of quality due to covid. If you want to serve hot garbage then at least lower your prices I won't be back to buy anything but a small amount of groceries from the Naugatuck big y. Unfortunately I cannot give 0 stars!!! My wife was treated extremely rudely today at Naugy Big Y. Never going back yo any Big Y anywhere!!. A white, short, pudgy balding manager with glasses asked her if she had a mask. She cannot wear one due to medical reason. He was very rude and abrupt when we told him she did not have a dr note on her so we left.....never to return. No one should be treated rudely FOR ANY REASON. I wish I took a second to get his name but just left instead of arguing with a rude person. I am glad in a way. We went to Stop and Shop without incident and actually saved money while being treated respectfully. That one rude person is responsible for losing an entire family as customers. The sales here are ok. The produce section leaves a lot to be desired; it's not uncommon to see shriveled-up cucumbers (no jokes, please), molding potatoes, wrinkled bell peppers, and squishy tomatoes on display. They have a sign saying that their produce is "guaranteed fresh". Um, riiiight. Also If you come on the wrong day you'd think there's a food shortage- there will be vast expanses of empty real estate where fruit and veggies should be. It's happened too many times that I'll come in here, put some stuff in my cart, then realize they don't have what I need and I have to leave and go drive somewhere else. Their selection is pretty horrible. This is the closest grocery store to my house, but I've taken to driving out of my way to go to Stop & Shop (either in Naugatuck or Waterbury) if my grocery list includes anything more exotic than: milk, eggs, bread. read more

Quality meat, fish, produce, deli, etc. CONS: Price trickery and confusing gimmicks. You should NEVER leave the store until you've verified your receipt total and discounts. A recent example was a "buy one, get one" item...I picked up two and was charged for the "free" item. Happens all the time there. I have never made so many trips to a service counter as Big Y for them to make good on their advertising. And then there's the coins gimmick. Quaint? I have a store card!! Why do we have to play this game at the checkout...I give them the coins and they give them right back. I have a bag of them in the car. Come on...it's the 21st century already! read more

While I do like shopping at the Big Y, I find this particular one to be pretty lacking in several respects. Plus on several occasions I have found that food were sold near, on, or past their expiration dates. Now I know for a lot of foods the expiration date is just a bunch of baloney and that a lot of food lasts PAST expiration dates.... but I don't want anything to be sold when it is clearly marked to expire the next day, or sooner! In addition this store is a bit more limited in regards to selection and sales than a lot of other Big Y's. read more

This is my favorite grocery store! It is the go-too for my family and I (we usually go there 2-3 times a week haha). The people that work here are so kind and friendly. Could take or leave this location. Found what I was looking for in the Meriden and Windsor stores, but this one seemed to lack in the brands - Mostly organic selections. They had the basic name brand stuff, but at the same price or sometimes even higher than other grocery stores. The naugatuck towns people can come off a bit rude so I only head out here if I see a sale that I just cannot pass up. The deli did seem nice, but with Llena's and nardelis right down the road, I never gave it a chance. If you live in Naugy and stop and shop is getting old than this is a nice alternative, but I would definitely choose other places over this one any day. read more

Big Y sure does a great job luring you into their store with flashy promises: "Buy 1 Get 1 Free!"; and if you're really lucky "Buy 1 Get 2 Free!". But when you take a look at the prices, you will quickly see that they jack (and sometimes jill) their prices up so high, it's plain crazy! case in point: I recently sent my husband to Big Y with a very specific list since sometimes he will buy the wrong brand/size, etc. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about! Anyway, I asked him to buy 2 packages of corned beef since they were buy 1 get 1 free. He comes home and we're putting the groceries away - I glance at the price on the corned beef and each one was over $20.00!! I was like, oh HELL no, that must be wrong. They had the nerve to charge $7.00 a pound when we all know that one would never pay more than $3.49 or so a pound. Hmmm, isn't $3.49 times 2....?? My husband didn't think to look at the price, so here we were with 2 packages of corned beef that I did not want. So I returned them. And as the manager slapped 2 large yellow "RETURNED - CANNOT SELL" stickers on the packages, she asked me why I was returning them. I said "because the price is ridiculous". She said "weren't they buy 1 get 1 free?" I said "yes, is $7.00 per lb. your usual price for corned beef?" And she's all "yes, it should be." Yeah, right! I didn't even feel bad that they lost money on the deal, they deserve it for being price gougers. So there Big Y! You can keep your multi-colored coins and your occasional high value coupon - I'd rather shop where the prices are consistent and I know I am truly getting a deal. Peace, out. read more
