This store is located at 860 Straits Turnpike, Middlebury, CT. They have plenty of parking and it is well lit at night. This store inside feels much bigger than it looks front the outside. You are met by a deli/food station when you first walk inside. They make fresh foods such as crispy gluten-free chicken cutlets, kale salad, roasted root vegetables, quinoa salad, and more! The rest of the store is sectioned by grocery items and homeopathic items. They have mushroom coffee, nondairy milks, allergy free ice creams, fresh produce, and more. There is an eye catching wall of containers filled with healthy snacks such as nuts, seeds, dates, and more. This place is pretty awesome! They even sell giant salt rocks, calming candles, and essential oils. I will absolutely be back! read more

Barbara the owner is really an awful person. She targeted me twice!!! She started screaming and going off on me because I was opening testers for essential oils that she has placed by the register- called me, inconsiderate thoughtless and disrespectful for testing the testers while waiting for my food... ( I intended on buying one) she said I wasn't considering that people around me could have allergies. She started opening the doors to the store and waving a pamphlet around. I calmly told her that I was testing them to see which smell I like the most to purchase and she said I was causing her to break out in hives and called me aggressive and told me to calm down when I had no aggression whatsoever, I just came from the gym I was in a great mood. the second time I was with my son- I didn't want her to recognize that it was me so I avoided the register, long story short she realized she had seen me before, started slamming my purchases into a paper bag and started picking a fight with me making comments about our last interaction , I ignored her comments payed for my crap and left. Yea the pricing is a bit high however you are paying for better quality items than at a typical grocery store. They seem to be independently owned and might be why the customer service doesn't translate well. I have waited a few extra minutes to get helped or get checked out however I don't mind. Nature's Goods Market in Middlebury CT is a neighborhood gem. Barbara, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable about their extensive stock of supplements, including homeopathic remedies. Barbara is warm, friendly and always eager to explain the purpose and uses of any product. She can also suggest something for a particular health issue. There is a stellar deli section with daily specials, soups, salads, and smoothies. . . turkey meatballs, vegetable wraps, chicken cutlets, kale salad, and quinoa salad. . .an incredible array of options. The soups are made daily. All the food is organic, fresh, and expertly prepared by Jared (owner), an excellent chef. Jared will make any customer requests. There is a juice bar section. The freezer area has frozen dinners, and a wide variety of Jared's soups (miso, roasted vegetables, butternut squash, broccoli/cauliflower, chicken noodle, turkey chili, etc.). There are even special foods for major holidays. Nature's Goods also offers a wide variety of grocery items,(almond milk, cereals, canned goods, etc.), fresh organic produce, coffee, cheeses, grains, nuts, seeds, and dried dates. I've been in here multiple times since it opened last year. it's also much closer than New Morning in Woodbury. I have to disagree with those who say the owner is not friendly. I've seen her work with customers and happily answer all their questions. Now to be fair. It's new and small. So you really can't compare them to New Morning which just moved to a much larger location. Having clarified this detail. I agree the prices are a little bit higher that other natural food stores but they have a decent selection of many types of organic and alternative food items. I went into this store to buy a container of nutritional yeast to make lactation cookies for a friend. While i was there i picked up a few other grocery items. When I went to the register I expected the specialty/homeopathic ingredient I would pay for out of pocket but the general grocery items I would use my SNAP card. I was shocked that they don't except SNAP as payment. I asked why to which the person working told me that "most of our clientele are hardworking middle class people" i was so shell shocked by this I payed with my debit card and left. I considered returning everything as to not sully their business with my impoverished funds but alas I am too busy being a (not-hardworking) employed single mom. read more

Found this store from a product locator for an obscure soda that I was looking for. I drove for the better part of an hour to shop here since I assumed they had other unusual stuff I'd like. I arrived right as someone was closing up early; I said that was too bad and explained how I found their store and how far I traveled. He aggressively asked me if I planned to 'support the store' or 'just buy sodas that you can get anywhere'. I didn't quite process the first half of what he said at first (my hearing is poor) and explained that it was hard to find, and I had driven really far to shop there. He gave me a dirty look and said 'Have a good day' in a tone that he wished me anything but, and walked off. So he decided to close up early and decided I wasn't worth his time because I wouldn't spend enough for his liking, and was exceptionally rude about it. Absolutely shocking. Olive Leaf was the cure. I've been to Nature's Goods a few times and I love the kale salad from the deli counter. We went in because my stomach had been bothering me for a few days and nothing was helping. The owner kindly suggested olive leaf extract. I diluted it in a glass of water when I got home and felt almost immediate relief. A couple more days using the olive leaf and my pain is completely gone. We also bought vitamins for our teenage son. And of course, the kale salad. They have a nice selection of organic products, vitamins, and many other natural products. Their prices are quite high, but the quality is there. read more

Honestly I don't see why this place is so poorly reviewed, there were literally two people who seem to have a bad experience with coupons that are really the only people that didn't have a good experience here. I've been here a few times and they have a great selection of healthy, organic food products. Their Pre-made food options are super tasty and healthy. They also have a wide selection of organic and natural vitamins, and recently started offering CBD oil products. The only downside to all this is that the prices of everything are very high, BUT it is all natural and organic so it's worth it (in a weird way *update* Katie B from Danbury left me a nasty "compliment" several days ago accusing me of being the John M. That works in this location, saying that my boss is forcing me to leave them a good comment. Nice little place. Prices are extremely high, but that is normal for organic products. Deli has limitless possibilities, but often takes 10-20 minutes to get something cooked there because the food usually takes longer. Staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It is very easy to see while driving by, it is right off of the highway, and there is plenty of parking. There is outdoor seating if you wish to eat there, no seating inside. They often have special visitors from health experts to herbal tea brewers (free samples of tee sometimes when you walk in). Aside from food, their products also include vitamins, enzymes, and organic toiletries. Tons of Gluten free products for celiacs, both food and accessories. i didn't like the fact that when i came in for the first time to make an purchase, i asked if they accept credit cards and the lady said yes we do. so i ordered a smoothie. when i went to pay she told me that the minimum for the credit card use is 10 dollars. if the owner who i ordered the smoothie from should had told me at the moment or even. before i order that the minimum is ten dollars then it would haven been ok. but when i when to pay she said that i have to purchase something else, so stupid me i bought whatever was on the counter instead of jus t leaving the smoothie there. so she tried to make extra money from me by being deceptive. but i guess that's how she wants to do business. i would never go there again. plus if she had told me that the minimum is 10 dollars on the card when i asked her i would have not mind but trying to sell me extra stuff when i was paying is not good business. put a note on the door or inside saying that we acccept credit card and the minimum is 10 dollars. read more

I've lived in the area for a couple years now and have gone in here pretty regularly every few months. Yes, the prices are high, but there's some things you can only get here. The loose items - dried fruit, nuts and granola - are good deals and good quality, and well taken care of. (I've had issues in other grocery stores with grain moths in their loose bins - never been a problem here.) I do find a couple items on sale that are actually lower than chain store prices, so if you keep coming around and looking for deals it's not bad. The clerks can be either a little chatty or a little quiet, but I've never had a -bad- experience in the years I've come here. I haven't had anything from the deli, but it seems to be pretty busy on weekends, if that says anything. Honestly if they could lower their prices just a tiny bit I would shop here more often. read more

Natures Goods Market is that which many of my employees frequent as it is near our office and the prepared food section offers many choices which are healthy and delicious. The market itself affords the shopper a comfortable, zen-like experience and an abundance of vegan, vegetarian and organic options. Pricing is bold. For instance, tuna salad can run $12.99/lb. It is delicious however (made with diced apples). If not for the owner, this market would be rated 4-5 stars but her customer service skills are such that the experience was marred (and this not the first time) by her abrupt and cold interpersonal skills. I went yesterday looking for something and both owners were behind the deli counter without masks and as she was walking in front of me put her mask on with hair all in her face. She tried to sell me on a $12 product and said it was great for cooking but couldn't describe how the product tasted. I was going to purchase garlic that was in a sealed bag and noticed the condensation on the bag and noticed that all of the bags of garlic had mold growing on the heads of the garlic. When I brought it to her attention it was like I was bothering her telling her she had bad product. I am 100% for supporting a small business but do not support poor treatment by the owners. She made me tell her what my allergies were & then she would tell me whether it would b a problem. Um, no. Seriously? They r pricey as r most HF stores. Unfortunately, other stores provide some sort of incentive to spend more $ by offering punch cards (for example) that when fully punched, offer a slight discount (hello Nature's Way). The short version: Avoid Nature's Goods at all costs. The older female clerk with the dark hair and accent who *claims* she's not the owner (but must be because I can't believe anyone would tolerate such repeated deplorable behavior from an employee [read the reviews here, including the "hidden ones," and you'll see a pattern]) called the police on two of us for questioning why they were willing to accept the coupon of one of us but not of the other (the answer: because we walked into the store together)! The police explained to us that this woman has a bad habit of calling them for ridiculous reasons. We still can't believe she actually tried to have us arrested for having two coupons! Yes, we know each other but we do not live together and we were paying separately for our purchases. The long version: Back in December, while visiting CT for the holidays, my sister-in-law took me to Nature's Goods in Middlebury and, though small and expensive, the young clerk working that day was friendly and the supply was good enough for a small shopping excursion. A couple of days later, I returned to the store with another out-of-town friend so that we could purchase some food. We could've gone to Trader Joe's but wanted to support local business as opposed to a corporation (even though I do like Trader Joe's). Not only do this friend and I live in separate households but we live in separate states (WI and NY, respectively). We were each visiting family who live in CT and while hanging out decided to go to this store. We each had a coupon but once at the register, the clerk informed us that we could only use one coupon per purchase. We said that was fine because we were each making separate purchases. She said, "No, I won't accept that." We were baffled and asked why not. She said, "Because you walked in together." I said, "People are allowed to shop together and make separate purchases--we don't even live in the same state," and I further explained that accepting one patron's coupon while refusing the other patron's use of an identical coupon is discrimination. She flat-out refused to give us equal treatment based on nothing other than that we are childhood friends who had decided to drive over in the same car and shop at the same time. At this point, I asked if she is the owner to which she replied that she is not. I then asked if I could speak with the owner. She said, "No, you need to leave." We remained stunned. We had done nothing wrong and merely were asking for equal treatment. I calmly explained to this clerk that she clearly misunderstands how coupons work and again asked to speak with the owner. At this point she said that she'd call the owner. We stood there for the next 10 minutes waiting for the owner to arrive. I finally asked how far away the owner was. She snapped, "About 15 minutes away." I said, "Ok, we've been waiting about 10 minutes so we'll expect the owner in the next 5." About 5 minutes later who should walk in but the police! I said aloud, "Wow, she said she was calling the owner but she called the police instead." One of the police officers immediately came over to us and politely asked what was going on. As I told him the story, he rolled his eyes and said, "She shouldn't have called the police over this--it's a civil issue, not a criminal issue." He also said, "Why is she making such an issue out of a coupon?" I told him that she seems extremely angry and that she's discriminating. The officer said that he couldn't force her to serve us and that we should leave all our food there for her to clean up, find an establishment more deserving of our business and enjoy our new year. I told him it's the principal--that she can't arbitrarily refuse service to someone just because she's a miserable person. Once outside, he told us that in the last two years this woman has called the police at least *five times* and that it's always for something ridiculous that shouldn't involve them. He believes she *is* one of the owners as she's the one who makes the repeated calls to police. He told us to let it roll off our backs and not give her any more business, which we fully intend to do. But we are adding this review to hopefully spare others of this woman's vile disposition. Immediately following this outrageous event, we Googled other health food stores in the area and decided to go to one called New Morning. It was a bit farther away but what a difference! The store is simply way better with a much larger selection and way better prices. They offer things like lattes with a choice of milks, including unsweetened homemade coconut milk (heaven). Not only did they of course accept our two separate coupons since we're two separate beings making separate purchases, but they also gave us two "welcome bags" filled with fantastic coupons since we're new customers. Stopped in today around lunch time and grabbed a half of a veggie wrap (premade) and a Tazo iced tea. A woman whom I presumed was the owner, rang me out and my purchase totaled 7.00. I handed her my credit card and was told there was a $10 minimum. When I told her I had no cash, she wouldn't budge and said there was nothing she could do, and was extremely rude. I had to go back to the deli and get a different sandwich and spent $11 for a wrap and a drink. Their sign states that they are an organic market & DELI. All of their sandwiches that are not premade total less than 10, and would not meet the minimum by themselves. I don't know many people who spend over $10 at a "deli" for lunch. Second, it is 2014 and you are a fully functioning grocery store - take credit cards for every amount. They're undoubtedly losing customers in the key millennial demographic, because, like it or not, many of us do not carry cash all the time. I've been very spoiled by living close to New Morning market in Woodbury for almost a decade. However, I go to the gym in the same parking lot as Nature's Goods, so it's a convenient if not-quite-as-good option. I've been 3 or 4 times now, and here's what I've found. Let's start with the good news. The smoothies and juices are fantastic, and the deli staff is friendly. The baked goods are also good and smell heavenly when being freshly made in the back. The Tandoor Chef Indian frozen food options are also phenomenal, and the selection of protein powders, natural baking ingredients (flours, brown rice syrup, agave sweeteners, etc.) and supplements is very good. They also have a great selection of Lara bars near the juice counter. What's not so great: I agree that other than the prepared deli foods, the fresh food options are scant. Very few fresh cheeses/dairy items available, and the produce section is extremely limited. Unfortunately, I have to agree that the female manager is not warm and fuzzy, and she has yelled (and I do mean yelled) at her staff in front of me on more than one occasion. I was also disappointed in the lack of local, or at least domestic, food options. Sorry to compare, but New Morning has always focused particularly on local offerings, like Arethusa Farm dairy products, and local honey and maple syrup. Looking at the honey selection today, 90% were sourced internationally (Brazil, New Zealand, and Canada). I'm not saying everything should be local/regional, I get that quality is most important. But having a few more local options would be pleasing. I will continue to stop in for juices, soups, and snack bars for the sake of convenience...but I will buy my cheese, dairy, and produce at New Morning! read more

Also the clerk is nice but she gives a lot of sales pitches for supplements that may or may not be accurate. I think that's dangerous. Delicious! Everything is home made and you can definitely taste it. I highly recommend their soups, incredible! They have a great selection of different natural foods and remedies with a lot of interesting (in a good way) munchie snack food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The owners are very friendly and let you taste the food before you buy it if you aren't sure but pretty much anything (I can't say everything since I haven't actually tried everything) you get will be good. It's a nice small health food store but they hardly ever have fresh fruit and veggies and when they do its very limited. Also the bulk products are stale and old so would avoid buying anything there. The foreign woman at the register is always trying to push other things for you to buy. Went to this store and the lady who checked me out was less than unpleasant, tossed my debit card on the counter, I had to reach to get it, but I ignored it. I had a quick question after I got to my car, went back and asked her, and all hell broke lose. She was absolutely rude, told me that if I go back one more time she will call tge police that I am tresspassing. Are you kidding me?? What?? Even when she was rude I was polite and respectful and she wasn't. With the number of other comments of same rude behaviour I would highly advise not to go here.
