After visiting, we know why. The place is great. Clean, cozy, with a very welcoming staff. The food we ordered was made to order and excellent. My eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly! The flat white was both beautiful and spot on. Way to go guys! Highly recommended.

There is also a delightful Spring inspired window display which as an ex-theatre designer I really appreciated! Apparently the owner's wife changes it seasonally. Lovely touch. I ordered a mozzarella, fresh kale and sundried tomato baguette and it was delicious. The bread was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and the contents were so fresh - it was gorgeous. I then treated myself to a peppermint tea and a white chocolate and pistachio cookie - such an unusual and classy combo! Loved it! The *only* thing I could complain about was that the infuser for the peppermint tea leaves was a little loose so a lot of the leaves escaped into my glass but I was able to fish them out easily and the tea was lovely so I really didn't mind :-) I only wish I was based in the business district of Liverpool so I could frequent this lovely place more often. Another example of an independent business getting it just right.

While the store feels nice and has a good feel to it, with a good amount of seating both upstairs and down I was a little disappointed with my overall experience here in comparison to other Pret stores. The service was pretty slow, for some reason at a busy period they only had one member of staff both taking orders and making drinks with no staff member to be seen other than her, I only came in for a pre-bottled Orange Juice, normally I could be in and out within 60 seconds but sadly it took longer here, to make matters worse when I did get it, the orange juice tasted off and rather bitter, even though it wasn't close to the expiration date. It is a pretty narrow door to get in, possibly because one half of the double door isn't working, somehow it did also open when I was leaving the store, it sort of swung both ways so it didn't appear to be that safe either. In terms of overall feel, this is one of the nicer branded coffee shops in Chester centre but with poor beverage quality and slow service, there isn't many other positives about this place, and I'll stick to the slightly better Starbucks a couple of stores down the road when in Chester in the future. 2*

However, I ordered food from here and it wasn't very nice. I could tell the macaroni cheese had been sitting under the heat too long as I almost broke my teeth trying to bite through the darn thing! Anyhow, great for a quick coffee or healthy and refreshing drink!

It can be difficult to find, but look out for the black and white board cut-out of a well proportioned lady and you'll be heading in the right direction. We have been there with relatives on a number of occasions. The cafe is quite small so you may have trouble finding a table during the busy summer months. Last time we visited we opted for a large jacket potato with lots of coleslaw and salad. They also do a delicious Roman's Lunch (which is much like a ploughman's!)The meals aren't cheap but they aren't too pricey either and you can also enjoy a cup of tea and a cake to break up a long day's shopping or sightseeing.

They claim it's all 'fresh' and 'homemade' but I have seen them buying their 'homemade soups and stews' from Tesco! (Yep, it's all TESCO VALUE food!) They try to disguise the cheap and nasty atmosphere by setting out teacups and saucers but if you look under the table cloth you will see that the 'tables' are made out of badly, hand-sawn ply wood and wires dangerously run across the floor with just a flimsy, cut out piece of carpet slat over it!! I seriously do not recommend you go there! It will be a waste of money and all you'll have for it is a pile of dog-food-like mush!

I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.
