We came to Cinco De Mayo to try their new soft serve margs, and they were fire! Strong tequila taste but it was worth the wait to try. It's busy up in here, the wait was about 30 minutes to get a table. The servers are working hard to keep up and they are so nice. First time here! We ordered the Gorditas and a Menudo. My wife enjoyed the gorditas they were not thick like other restaurants and tasted freshly made. Could have use a tad more meat. We've been meaning to try Cinco de Mayo. It looks nice from the outside and did not disappoint. The veggie burrito was delicious, but I wish you could have ordered just the burrito. The veggie is only available as a dinner option with rice and beans. Regardless, I really enjoyed it! Stopped in for lunch with the office group for our Friday work lunch. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Everything from all the different salsas offered, chips, queso, guacamole, and entrees were all thoroughly enjoyed by our group. Most Mexican restaurants use the same recipes and they taste the same. This Mexican restaurant is much better. I've been told by people who know that this is authentic Mexican food. It hasn't been Americanized. I just know it tastes really good. They don't cheapen the food up by cranking up the salt, grease, and sugar. They actually cook with ingredients and it shows. I think it tastes better than Uncle Julio's in Chicago. The service is always good. They have people always cleaning, the staff won't let you die of thirst, and a fresh beer always arrives before the last one gets finished no matter how hot the peppers are. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. It's growing in popularity but we've never had to wait for a table yet. Ate at restaurant for a birthday celebration. Food was delicious. Nothing really over the top. Left upset with waitress after several patrons noticed and caught waitress and management after waitress was caught presetting the handheld tablet for our meal checks to a 41% tip. She was attempting to cover that portion of the screen with her thumb thinking we wouldn't notice. Several patrons didn't initially didn't notice until they received their receipt. The entire evening and meal was ruined when a cocky security guard for the restaurant comes to our table as we were finishing and told my husband to straighten his hat because he didn't want any problems. At first we thought it was a joke but it wasn't. He apparently thought we would insight gang violence in Portage because of a slightly crooked hat. A few minutes later when I was telling the waitress that if they have a gang violence problem, we would probably not come back. As I am telling her this, the guard comes back over to me and gets in my face saying "do you have a problem" trying to intimidate us. Oh, I am 57 and my husband is 45. What gang are we in? From what I've been reading from the reviews, they have improved a lot. The wait staff is always so kind and attentive when me and my boyfriend go. We've taken our son here as well, they're very good with kids. We're given chips and salsa when we sit down, the salsa is so good. Our food is always hot and delicious. Have been here a few times. The original bartender woman made a great margarita and used decent tequila - and had no problem substituting any other tequila on the shelf. Something changed when I was last there now they use cheap tequila and charge quite a bit if you want anything else. Too bad... I will not return. read more
