The atmosphere is nice , there authentic Mexican food is good especially there Tostada Souza are my favorite! Great Margaritas all different flavors ! Enjoyed immensely read more

The food here is absolutely excellent and they nail it 100% of the time! The staff is also very incredibly friendly and I've known them for a long time. (The problem at hand) ~ this place gets absolutely packed most of the time so if you call a takeout order, it's a 50/50 chance you will be appeased. I would like to see more attentiveness, follow through and diligence in the takeout area of the restaurant. I've ordered a torta and instead of them calling me and telling me they didn't have the bread, my wife showed up 30 mins later for there to be no order. They had just told her we didn't have the bread to make it and gave her a menu... read more

Food was good, however. We ordered an Old Fashioned and it came a quarter full. I understand old fashions don't come all the way full all the time. but it was 75% ice with a tiny bit of Jameson, that old fashioned was $17. Another person in our party ordered a burrito, and his burrito came 20 minutes after we got our food, we were all done by the time his food came. The people sitting behind us who came in after us, got their food before he got his burrito. The server wasn't the problem, he tried what he could but the manager wouldn't let him do anything or take anything off. read more

This is my second time coming here and it was just as good as it was the first time super nice ambience super nice vibe still gives a mom and Pop type vibe but not really but everybody was super friendly. Wanted to help. Everyone was really just nice like it was a place to go that everyone was nice. they had a really good size menu and something for everybody. I'm sure if you like Mexican food you'll find something that you like/love here. I had more pictures, but yelp was being a bully and won't let me post them. Everything was really good hands-down a good time good authentic Mexican food were poured strong and food came out quickly. Everything was hot and well seasoned but that rice, I had with the seafood and the crab on top. Oh my God 10 out of 10. read more

We came to Cinco De Mayo to try their new soft serve margs, and they were fire! Strong tequila taste but it was worth the wait to try. It's busy up in here, the wait was about 30 minutes to get a table. The servers are working hard to keep up and they are so nice. The only downside would be the music is boomin if you're lowkey sensitive. Otherwise, great dinner!! read more

Loved it! The raspberry margarita was a favorite. We did notice the bread on the torta tasted stale though and the flour tortillas for the tacos and appetizer were hard. We loved all of the great flavors though and our server was so nice:) This restaurant is so cute on the inside! read more

We've been meaning to try Cinco de Mayo. It looks nice from the outside and did not disappoint. The veggie burrito was delicious, but I wish you could have ordered just the burrito. The veggie is only available as a dinner option with rice and beans. Regardless, I really enjoyed it! My kids really liked their beef soft tacos and the veggie fajitas were a hit with our oldest daughter. Thumbs up around the table for Cinco de Mayo. It's been added to our Mexican roster in the Valpo/Chesterton/Portage area. read more

Stopped in on a Friday night with a party of 6 and got a table right away. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the vibes are high! Our server was super friendly and efficient. First time here! We ordered the Gorditas and a Menudo. My wife enjoyed the gorditas they were not thick like other restaurants and tasted freshly made. Could have use a tad more meat. Me personally I order the Menudo and it was perfect for my taste, not spicy, did not smell of the menudo not being cleaned, right amount of hominy! If I enjoyed it the rest of the menu must be good. read more

A coworker recommended this place, so the wife and I checked it out and we were NOT disappointed! To begin with, the staff was friendly and courteous. Then, our server brought out this FLIGHT of chips and salsa...and one of the salsas was warm!Whoa Nelly! We both got the Butrito Del Mar and OMG, was it delicious! It was loaded with shrimp and crab...loaded! When we don't have time to sit in, we will Grubhub them and order that same meal every time! This is a great local spot with great food. I also hear that the place is jumping on the weekends with live music. Cinco De Mayo is definitely a local favorite for us! read more

Stopped in for lunch with the office group for our Friday work lunch. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Everything from all the different salsas offered, chips, queso, guacamole, and entrees were all thoroughly enjoyed by our group. This new place is Awsome! That staff was very friendly and the place was bumping! Food was fantastic!

Another top notch meal! I went two days in a row lol lol I have zero shame! Let me tell you, they have the BEST lengua I've ever had! It's so tender and flavorful! On Sunday I had the taco dinner , 2 lengua and 1 shrimp taco. This entree comes with beans and rice. If you happen to visit, please PLEASE get the cucumber margarita! OhhhMyyyGooooosh!!! Sooooo fresh and satisfying ! If you feel adventurous, get it frozen and add watermelon. You won't be disappointed! On Monday, I ordered a burrito dinner that came with three meat choices . I subbed my chorizo for, yeah, you guessed it, lengua! Lol! This meal comes with fries and a salad! And when I tell she was thiiick and heavy.... Lol. I managed about 5 bites and took the rest home LOL! I also love that you can order single burritos as well! The service is always ALWAYS top notch! The severs are always so friendly and warm. This is not a place that you feel like you can't linger. I love the look and vibe this place has. Don't hesitate to go on a Friday night either! They have salsa, bachata and just dancing in general! I always have such a wonderful time when I'm there! Oh, also the taco dinner was 15.00 and I do believe the burrito meal was 15.00 as well! A over portion of DELICIOUS, fresh food and don't forget about the salsa flight with chips as well! Incredible! If you're in the area! It's the place to be! Oh! And I had a shot of tequila for National Tequila Day! So much fun! read more

Food is good and authentic but customer service is key, the person nina I think she is the hostess and carry out order taker is really bad slow lazy and not amicable. There are few good Mexican restaurant around no need to wait 30min (ordered over phone arrived 10min later) for food and 10min to pay then they forgot stuff on my order and did not refund me told me to come in the next day.... What a joke not sure who is managing but seems no one is. If u do decide come eat do not order take out. read more

Wow! Our first time here and it was amazing!! We moved from Chicago to Valparaiso about three years ago and we've been in search of a good authentic Mexican restaurant and we finally found one!!! I had the green enchiladas and my husband had the parillada and they were absolutely delicious!!! Place is fresh and clean!! Don't pass this place up!!! Also, we had the best waitress, Cristina!! Even though she was pregnant, she was hard at work!! Absolutely great service all around!! We will definitely be back!! Thank you Cinco se Mayo for a great dinner!!!! read more

Pay $12 for a small margarita that I waited 15 minutes on waited an hour and 15 minutes on it to go order and their excuse was it Cinco de Mayo. Asked for a refund after an hour of waiting and was told a manager had to do it. And the manager made me continue to wait. To go order took 1hr and 23 minutes. read more

Most Mexican restaurants use the same recipes and they taste the same. This Mexican restaurant is much better. I've been told by people who know that this is authentic Mexican food. It hasn't been Americanized. I just know it tastes really good. They don't cheapen the food up by cranking up the salt, grease, and sugar. They actually cook with ingredients and it shows. I think it tastes better than Uncle Julio's in Chicago. The service is always good. They have people always cleaning, the staff won't let you die of thirst, and a fresh beer always arrives before the last one gets finished no matter how hot the peppers are. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. It's growing in popularity but we've never had to wait for a table yet. There is a big bar area and I think it sort of turns into a club after the kitchen closes on weekends. read more

Hours say 10am, showed up close to 11:30 doors still locked - almost back in car before some came running to open the door. Shoulda just got in car and left. Once seated only saw my waiter when I ordered and when time to pay, brought the extra chips I asked for when it was time to pay then she didn't even give them to me. Never got a drink or even water refill. Place wasn't busy, a total of 3 tables maybe 7 ppl during my whole visit. Food was... bland and lacking. Burrito had no filling and was all tortilla. Carnitas was overcooked and dry. Place looks so inviting but the service and food were offal. read more

I would like to give this a 1.5 star but it was beautiful inside but I'll review this place.. this place really lacks help and it's so needed and maybe new cooks. The food was really unseasoned and it's definitely not worth the food.. it's the drinks and chips with salsa if u want to visit.. refund me lol but I just don't understand how you're a Cinco De mayo but please season the food.. so today we went to see the owner.. he was very angry and wondered if it was his food we ate which was the only thing we ate.. won't ever visit this spot again.. thanks again for nothing.. read more

Ate at restaurant for a birthday celebration. Food was delicious. Nothing really over the top. Left upset with waitress after several patrons noticed and caught waitress and management after waitress was caught presetting the handheld tablet for our meal checks to a 41% tip. She was attempting to cover that portion of the screen with her thumb thinking we wouldn't notice. Several patrons didn't initially didn't notice until they received their receipt. Management states no refunds. Seems they are aware that this waitress and possibly others are dishonest. read more

The entire evening and meal was ruined when a cocky security guard for the restaurant comes to our table as we were finishing and told my husband to straighten his hat because he didn't want any problems. At first we thought it was a joke but it wasn't. He apparently thought we would insight gang violence in Portage because of a slightly crooked hat. A few minutes later when I was telling the waitress that if they have a gang violence problem, we would probably not come back. As I am telling her this, the guard comes back over to me and gets in my face saying "do you have a problem" trying to intimidate us. Oh, I am 57 and my husband is 45. What gang are we in? We felt totally harassed and will never set foot in this place again. This was a guy the restaurant paid to harass regular customers who come in at least twice a week and spend a lot of money. They will never see another cent from us. read more

I would give them -10 stars if possible. Lady seemed so nice and was friendly and knew who I was by my voice when I got there - until I got home And I saw my "6 cheese tacos" had no cheese at all!! 10.99 for 3 tacos with literally only steak that was not edible and the lettuce and tomatoes consisted of house salad . When I called back to tell the "nice friendly lady" she acted like she couldn't understand English even thought I talked to her perfectly fine on the phone twice and in person. She acted like I was a idiot and is soooo unprofessional also it looks like their are many building hazards as the restaurant is literally in shambles. Totally stay away from this place . read more

I went into this establishment with the intention to get some good food. However, that all came to a halt when they claimed the kitchen was closed at 11:46pm.
