A nice tucked away gem. The staff is nice and attentive. The food comes out fresh and hot. The food is cook to order so there is no issue with tailoring it to your liking. The portions are ample. I had the mixed fajita with steak and chicken. The chicken was moist. The steak was tender. Everything was well seasoned. It came with rice, beans and salad plus tortillas (corn or flour). Not the best Mexican food in the area (and certainly not super "authentic" Mexican but also not the worst, and Cinco de Mayo is very cheap. There is a lunch buffet everyday from 11-2:30 or 3 that only costs $9.50 and all of the entrees are super cheap as well. The service isn't bad but nothing spectacular either. Basically Cinco de Mayo is your average Mexican restaurant, nothing more and nothing less. The lunch buffet has some meat entrees: fajita beef, chorizo pork with onions, pork ribs, and some chicken con queso. They were all forgettable except the corizo which was very good. They have beef and chicken enchiladas, chicken taquitos, cheese quesadillas (very cheesy and very good), chicken nuggets, fries, and ground beef & chicken along with soft and hard shells to make your own tacos. Everything was average quality with nothing that really stood out. The rice and beans were not very good at all either- and it's not just the buffet quality, my girlfriend ordered the chimichanga which was okay but her rice and beans were also really mediocre. If you're in the area and need a Mexican fix for cheap, this is better than Taco Bell, or if you really want to chow down the buffet is all decent quality stuff and super cheap as well. If you want really good or authentic Mexican food though, I would venture out to other places in Concord/Charlotte to get your fix. read more

Well I am new to Charlotte and went here after seeing the reviews thinking it had to be atleast fairly good. But as much as I tried to like it I really really didnt. I had the nachos supreme- with no jalapeños and with beef. First off- it came out looking like a mess- but that's okay it's the taste that matters! I think the real issue here was the cheese. It was hard to explain. Because I would say it looked and had the consistency of cheese wiz from a can but I could also clearly see some was actual shredded and sprinkled. But it was liquid like- it didn't pull like cheese. I hope this makes sense. It was also really bland. The only good part was the guac which I asked for. I also got a sex on the beach- no ice or anything wasn't even cold. So, unfortunately I won't be back. But I'm uploading a photo just so people don't think I'm a liar lol read more

It was a lazy day so we decided to just order out. Unfortunately it was like pulling teeth trying to order over the phone. I did, however, have a pretty large order. When I was finished, she said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Sure enough, it was waiting for me when I got there. The food is always good. I have a mild obsession with their grilled shrimp burrito. It's also very large, I wouldn't even be able to imagine eating the whole thing in one sitting. My husband and mom usually get the pork carnitas and chicken burritos for my 3 and 5 year old. My kids aren't super picky, they'll eat whatever is put in front of them even if they don't care for it. However, my boys love the chicken burritos from here. The manager is a great guy. Whenever we come in, he'll stop by and chat with us for a while, play with the baby, bring some extra tortillas for the little one.. This place continues to excel in my book and is definitely my go-to place for Mexican food. read more

Why this place gets a 3 is because I give it a 2 and the hubs gives this place a 4. Honestly, i hated my dish (some enchiladas) but the hubs' Pollo Ranchero was good. I liked their salsa and the quick service. Another thing to mention- i had a sneeze-attack as soon as I got seated. Not sure what the reason was but it could be because of the strong smell of salsa. We were staying at GWL and hoping for a quick dinner with our kids before going back to the slides (which didn't happen). The service was very slow. We didn't get silverware until several minutes after the food had arrived. The cheese dips took over 15 minutes even though we ordered them with drinks. There was something black in my margarita. The food was subpar.....my daughter didn't even eat her taco. When we went to pay they didn't give us an itemized receipt and we noticed the bill was $106 for two adults (only one adult meal) and four children and questioned it. We asked for a full receipt and noticed they added a 20% gratuity to a party of 6 (4 kids) without telling us. They also charged $2.25 for shredded cheese for fajitas that never came. After asking to refund the payment they acted upset and said they couldn't refund my money. They wouldn't speak English to me so I have no idea what they were saying. After spending close to 20 mins, on this I finally gave up and told them to keep it and never mind. Very bad business. We will never go back and suggest you don't either. read more

Not 5 stars, because after eating amazing chicken quesadilla for appetizers we were very disappointed by chicken+shrimp fajitas, they were very bland and had a weird taste. I had such high hopes entering, noting the staff was Hispanic as well as several diners. That did not last very long. While the service was good - not great - but good, the kitchen killed the vibe. My Fajita Taco Salad was just sad. The steak was tough, the quac was faded and somehow they managed to get a nice soupy layer in the bottom of a DRY salad. Even the shell was semi crisp - like it had been stored near boiling water. Lastly, the margarita had a LOT of mix & a LITTLE bit of tequila & was way too sweet. This is an alternative spot for Mexican for alternative reasons. I have events I go to nearby. I came because I was shopping at the BJ's and the home goods store thereabouts. This is a place where you are more likely to hear patrons speaking Spanish than English, this doesn't mean the food is any better or worse. What makes this place a 4/5 is the buffet. The buffet has all the unhealthy comfort foods you could want. You need to eat a lot to get value out of the buffet as the entrees are reasonably priced and filling. Where I get my value is from the variety of items you can get. Don't make fun of the variety of Mexican food - there is actual variety and here you can experience it. You can also get value if you just want tons of cheese on everything. The management is very friendly and improves the entire experience. The bathrooms are what cost this place a star and make it impossible for me to give it 5 stars. I like a restaurant to have a nice bathroom, for whatever reason I feel like the entire establishment is classier and cleaner if they have a good bathroom. I suggest you don't go to the bathroom here as it will bring your mood down. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a mop bucket utility closet with a toilet in it (that would cost 2 stars). read more

The steak Fajitas were most likely the worst I have had , they taste like they took left over food from the buffet that just ended and put on a sizzle plate that had no steam or sizzle when came to table. Guacamole was good, the salsa that came with the chips has no flavor at all. Looks and taste like can tomato sauce with a few cut onions and peppers thrown in. Delightful Mexican dinner! We were staying at Great Wolf Lodge, and this restaurant is on a strip less than half a mile away, and was delightful! It was clean and bright and colorfully decorated with Mexican art and design, and lovely booths with arch type design. We were greeted by Mayra upon entering at 430pm for an early dinner, and she was incredibly nice and took great care of us, keeping us in drinks, and granting extra requests for our babies. Everyone's food was delicious, and we ordered cheese dip in addition to the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, which was also good, and enjoyed by all, including our 16 month old. My husband had more pork carnitas than he could eat, and the other food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had a cold and asked for their chicken soup, Sopa de Pollo, which was broth with shredded chicken, rice, pisco de gallon, and avocado (which they left out at my request), and made me feel much better. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE RACIALLY PROFILED, DON'T GO HERE! If I could give it 0 stars I would. Went to pick up my husband and I's dinner at 7:45 and somehow the restaurant lost our order. At first, the woman at the front counter couldn't find my receipt and said they didn't have the receipt or the food anymore and that I would have to go and put a new order in. Instead of her putting the order in, she pushed me to someone else because she didn't want other customers behind me to wait too long. After being pushed aside, the other waiter was the one who I spoke to on the phone and he remembered my order and that it was put in. Somehow the woman at the counter gave away my food to someone else and kept saying someone stole my food and it happens all the time. I waited another 20 minutes while my food was being prepared even though they said they would put a rush on it. I went to go pay and asked the woman for a discount on the order since they lost my food and I had to wait 45 minutes. She then decided to say negative racial comments saying she knows what kind of people we are, always asking for discounts and that I somehow run a business going to different restaurants and causing problems. I will NEVER go back to this place again!!!! I would suggest this restaurant reevaluate customer service and how you shouldn't treat customers. read more

Wonderful restaurant! We found this place while on vacation at the Great Wolf Lodge which is very close by. The food is great, and the prices are great too! This was hands down the best restaurant we tried while we were in the area. And it's far _far_ better than the restaurants built into GWL. Have eaten here twice once for lunch, and once for dinner. The food is fresh, the staff is friendly and courteous. We ordered a variety of specialties from menu. They prepared the more traditional "mexican" fare very well. I was not impressed with the pineapple in the Cinco de Mayo fajitas.
