I've been here a few times and honestly I never really liked the service until recently the owner hired a new worker there. He gave me good recommendations and explained to me difference of the cigars and their background. I was with my wife that night and she kept talking about how she enjoyed the knowledge and experience provided by this gentleman (Ansen, I think that was his name) and that made me real happy. Definitely coming back and this time I won't have to worry about disappointing my wife or friends. The place is nicely set up and relaxing. Now with the service that's a huge plus!! He helped me find everything i asked for. The prices very a bit more expensive though. Great cigar shop. Good selection and good prices. Visited last evening with a friend...always the best way to partake...not being a regular, I wasn't sure what to expect. As you may know...or perhaps you don't...some shops can make you feel like an outsider pretty quick; as though you are bothering them because you want to give them some money. Absolutely not the case here....we were made to feel very welcome and the owner and his employees went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable...very cool. The cigars were not dry or stale...and I am not even an Aficionado. The Owner and his son are great people to get to know and are great business owners! I always go to smoke and relax while talking with strangers who come for the same reason. I wanted to like this place, and I was excited to go back based on how friendly the people were in there. Unfortunately, after some research, I feel pretty hard done. I'm putting together a birthday present for brother and know I can't go wrong with good bourbon and cigars. I don't know much about cigars, but my brother's idol is Winston Churchill. So when I walk into Cigars by Chivas and see the Davidoff Winston Churchill Petit Panatela cigars, I know what I'm getting! I paid $69 plus tax and headed out. I do some research to see what the reviews are on the cigars and am very happy to see they are received well. I'm not happy to see that they are being sold for $30 everywhere else. I call the shop and ask if I was charged for the wrong item because like I said, they were friendly enough and seem to get mostly good reviews on yelp. He said no, that's the price. California has a 30% tobacco tax. Okay, that doesn't account for a 130% mark up, though, right?! So I call another shop, Planet Tobacco in Eagle Rock, and ask if they carry them. Yep! For $34.99. I didn't want to write a bad review, but this is just wrong. No other way to put it. I suggest you do your research on prices before purchasing at Cigars by Chivas. read more

Ok. so friday nite and you got nothing to do right? well my friend and i went to this cigar place called Cigars By Chivas Expensive and "VIP" looking but be warned looks can most definitly be DECIEVING.... The shop: they have the greatest selection better than that ceniza place over in El Paseo. The place is great 32" inch screen tv and all the cigars are definitly well worth the money OH and for the Davidoff 100th Aniv., Opus X, and 1926 Aniv. Padron you need to ask them for it they are not display and its good so that dumbasses dont touch them and mess the skin up. Now the Decieve: There was about 2 young guys working and like some anal prick that I later found out is the owner one guy looked strait out dead look like he just saw a ghost. and the other guy looked like he came out of the marines like full on flat top HA! only thing is that i rolld by and noticed that the dead guy is still dead and the marine guy has a goatee now. I spoke to the marine guy I know his name is Erny cause he said Its just like Sesame St. and he seemed very happy to help me out and he did, so the his service was great now when i had asked him if he had some opus x Perfextion4 or 5 (no not a mispell) he said yes so he walks to the back room and I hear a loud yell DIDNT I TELL YOU NOT TO F*(# ING BOTHER ME!!!! I felt very fortunate to find this cigar lounge so close to where my family and I had lunch. I paid $15 for a $9 cigar but the dude working there cut it and lit it for me and I relaxed in their comfy leather chairs while watching golf so really the price was worth the experience. My wife and daughter returned from shopping to find me puffing the last bit of my stogie and had a seat while I finished up. Nothing was said about them sitting in the lounge despite signs that read a $10 cigar minimum purchase required to sit in the lounge. I greatly appreciated this and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So I've always seen this place when I get out of the parking lot on De Lacey and thought it had a cool old school kinda look to it but never went in. Then the other day I decided "what the heck?" and strolled on over. Man this place is cool. Jazzy music playing (or sometimes the Gipsy Kings, but who doesn't love the Gipsy Kings), a bunch of guys sitting around smoking cigars, and quite possibly any kind of cigar you could ever need/want.
