Humboldt was my favorite shop, but now that they are gone, this place is a good stand-in. They have a good selection and prices are good for the area. The large lounge is very comfortable and there is no charge for using it. read more

Do you ever talk to someone who keeps getting sidetracked, and strays away from the original conversation? That happened to me last night, but in a good way...and instead of conversation, it was food we were looking for. Alas, food was not to be found, but a great cigar place was. It's an odd location, tucked near the Goodwill store and a few nail salons in San Mateo. Don't let the surroundings fool you, because once you step inside, you'll spy the lounge in the back, complete with oversize couches and a game on the big screen. Cigar Loft stocks most of the good brands like AVO, Oliva, Ghurka, and Romeo and Juliet, to name a few. I picked up an Oliva Serie V double corona for less than $7, which is a deal. Cigar loft i've drove/walked past for a few years. today, i needed to relieve some stress. drinking takes forever (me a bottomless pit) and this dui thing that's going around is a semi-deterrent. so i came here for a smoke. the smokes are neatly stacked within boxes in wood cabinets, all humidorized. (steam vapors to ease the drying process of cigars). -name brand boxes with prices posted -didn't see bullshit brands like "playboy" -'gars seem reasonably priced. (with the taxes involved, hard to figure what's reasonable now). went to my go to my brand "ashton", got a magnum (10.73), churchills (3.33). patrons in the 20-26 range. ashton's typically is a strong smooth smoke with a signature white ash. ashes: -reasonable prices -i was surprised they have a lounge here (in the rear). was invited but had to pass. some time soon. -nice customer service/ p.r. -free street parking. -smoke was a little harsh so i should choose from a fuller box next time. -no house brands sold here. a no. 2 (name forgotten) is a davidoff (6.95?) maduro also! read more

As I take a tour of the local cigar lounges in NorCal while visiting family, I stumbled upon to the Cigar Loft. The location is small but adequate to relax and have a cigar. They have a good selection of cigars. Their lounge area isn't big but good enough. Staff is friendly and very helpful. They sell beverages on the honor system but they only take cash. Sucks for me cause I didn't have any. They have one large tv which is a good size to view from almost every seat. I would come back. read more

The secret is out - this place is a gold mine for used cigar boxes! I actually don't smoke but today was the second time I visited for boxes and was able to pick up some really good ones. The boxes are usually out front on a table to sale. I love how cigar boxes look, smell, and how they have so much more character than plain boxes from Target/Ikea. The store owner also keeps the more rare cigar boxes behind the counter - they usually cost more but are well worth it! The store attendant was really patient with us as we made our selection. Jamaicians are pretty cheap. Every one of the cigars are humidorized, to keep it longer and taste better. Just in case, if cigars loose it's taste, it's pit into wooden boxes over glass. That or if somebody tries to steal it. Oh Yeah, they do check ID. If you can't get a Ashton, you can always get Swisher Sweets. Everything is clean and in orderly stacked. The man and woman are really nice and if you have any questions, they can answer it, pretty easily. They know their stuff. If you don't want to smoke it elsewhere, there is a lounge in the back. It has leather chairs where you can watch flat screen TV of sports or shows. They offer you drinks as well. Very relaxing, makes you feel like a gangsta or a king pin. Lol. I've been coming to this store for several years simply because this place is everything a local tobacconist should be. I'm always impressed with the selection and quality of the cigars in this store. The store is roomy and spacious and as a result you feel comfortable to take your time and look around. Will, Jeff and the rest of the crew are very friendly and know their product and can make recommendations for you should you be a beginner or simply want to try something new. The prices are reasonable (for California!) and I've frequently bought boxes here that are hard to find elsewhere. In addition to the cigars, the store operates a decent-sized smoking lounge with a large flat screen TV and cold drinks. They store also frequently hosts evening cigar tasting events. Just ask to get on their mailing list and you'll receive some friendly reminders every month or so. There aren't many tobacconists in the Bay Area (let alone good ones) so stop by this place and support a local business that knows their product and how to treat its patrons. read more

Held the 2nd Wednesday of March each year, today was National No-Smoking day, so I talked some friends from work into joining me for a Cigar Lunch at Cigar Loft & Lounge on 25th Ave in San Mateo. Hey, I'm just trying to do my part in the battle against smoking. I smoked an AVO Toro, Richard smoked an Oliva Series O Torpedo, and Doug had a Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Belicoso. Will's Cigar Loft & Lounge is the most comfortable cigar lounge I have experienced in the Bay Area. It features a large, nicely decorated room with plenty of classic executive chairs, lighters and ashtrays. There is also coffee and snacks (the brownie bites are my favorite) and a plasma tv. It's located just 10 minutes from my work, and has a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The cigar selection is excellent. You can find all the Padrons, Fuentes, Ashtons, Partagas, CAOs, NUBs, etc.. and even Tatuajes and Illusions! The layout of the store is perfect, and the cigars are even better. I'm serious! Will admitted to me that he is a perfectionist, and it shows. Each cigar rack has a digital hygrometer at the bottom and they all read 70 to 71. What really impressed me though is that every single cigar I have picked up is perfect! Usually I go through a few cigars in a box before finding a perfect one, even in the high quality shops, but not here. EVERY CIGAR IS FLAWLESS! The Cigar Loft is an oasis of calm in a world of crazy. It is one of the only comfortable, indoor spots to smoke a cigar in civilized company.The front of the shop is lined wall-to-wall with humidified cases full of a wide variety of excellent cigars. For pipe smokers, there is also a decent selection of pipe tobacco. The staff of the Loft are uniformly helpful, friendly, and good-natured. Time and again I have seen them walk a newbie through the process of smoking his or her first cigar, or help a wife shop for her husband. Or a husband shop for his wife. Or a husband shop for his husband. It's good, old-fashioned customer service, selection and fair prices. The back of the shop is the comfortable smokers lounge, which is equipped with leather chairs, TVs, and my favorite amenity: conversation. People here tend to converse, whether you are a regular or someone who only stops in now and then. There are lockers available for rent (I'm contemplating renting one), and there are drinks and snacks available for a modest fee (on the honor system). All in all, the Cigar Loft in San Mateo (and it's sister property in Walnut Creek) is one of the nicest places I can think of to smoke a cigar. There is no membership fee for the lounge. However, it is considered good form to purchase whatever you're going to smoke in the lounge from the shop. And that's good advice for any cigar bar or smoking lounge. I visited the Cigar Loft after I was given a nice round of cigars from this place for my birthday. I liked the cigars I got and lighter and was told that they had great service. So I decided to to visit them and right from start I was greeted pleasantly and asked if I needed assistance. The guy there helped me gather a few cigars based on my preferences. I gather a few other items and the guy even gave me a free cigar cutter. I did notice the smoking area and thought I'd comeback another day and even was invited to stop by anytime to enjoy a cigar. I had a great experience and will be coming back again. I would definitely recommend this place, they seem to have a good assortment of cigars and are very knowledgeable as well. I called them up after having realized there were relatively affordable cigars from the folks who used to roll for Tatuaje, and their new place "Flor de las Antillas" was a big hit with the fine folks at Afficianado.
