We had some food credit and decided to give this place a try. We ordered the off the menu wagyu tomahawk steak special that came with shrimp, asparagus and mash potatoes and 2 wedge salads for $250. It was enough for 2 people. The server told us it would take 45 minutes for the steak but we couldn't resist wagyu so were like ok. We can wait while we ate the bread and salad. The wedge salad was nothing special but very fresh and crispy lettuce. The steak finally came and unfortunately it was practically medium well when we ordered medium rare. And since we're paying so much money for it we had to send it back. What got us disappointed was that the chef told the waiter that because it's wagyu it just looks medium well but it's actually medium rare OMG. I've had quite a bit of steak in my life and that definitely not medium rare but we still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and tried it anyways. Yeah, nope...definitely overcooked. So we sent it back and they offered to make a new steak which was another long wait but this time it was a lot shorter. The new steak finally came out and it was more rare then medium rare but we ate it anyways. Some parts were medium rare. They also give us a entire new set of shrimp, mash potatoes and asparagus which was a nice touch to make up for their mistake. Everything else tasted good. We had a server and a helper and the helper was so much better than our actual server cause he thought we were dumb to even suggest it's not medium well. I think if I ever came back I would give it a second chance but stay away from the wagyu tomahawk. I heard their other steaks are pretty good. Servers were wearing masks. Always take the time to make reservations. Anytime you see "reservations" make one! It lessens the stress of waiting. This was our second time dining at Cielo. Last year was pretty good but this year was outstanding. The hostesses greeted us with smiles and professionalism. Our first reservation was 715, was sat immediately upon arriving around 7. Our first server was Jared and Jose was our bus guy. Jared embodies what fine dining is. From the start he took care of our every need. We started with the crab cake, lobster bisque and French onion soup. All were good! (We had them already last so we thought we would have them again). We got the chicken chimichurri, bay scallops and sea bass. All was delicious. We ended the night with a warm butter cake. It never fails! The following evening I made another reservation with daughter in tow. It was at 845. Again, hostesses sat us right away! This time it was the upstairs dining area. Here I thought it couldn't get any better. The dining area upstairs over look the piano and the rest of Cielo. The ambience is very romantic. Kevin was our server and Jose was our bus guy again. Jose is all smiles and greet us and chatted for a bit. Kevin had the same outstanding service as Jared. We told Kevin it was our second night in a row and joked that we already knew what we wanted. This time around we tried the Alaskan crab legs , oyster Rockefeller and a filet mignon. All is good! Ended our night with crème brûlée. Everything was excellent! Oh my word ! Absolutely delicious !! One of the better high end steakhouses we've been too, love the live piano playing in middle of restaurant for guests. Customer service was fantastic, fast, friendly and always checking in. We ordered steak tar tar for appetizer and the best tar tar we've ever had!! It was so flavorful and fresh!! Entrees we're NY strip steak and shrimp scampi both absolutely delicious! Their red wine steak sauce was to die for as well it was sweet but so delicious! We had few of their cocktails definitely refreshing and delicious. I wasn't to fond of their bread appetizer they give you at each table but the crackers with the bread went well with the tar tar once we finished the bread that came with it. For Morongo's standards, the food was just OK considering the price point. Originally we planned to each get our own dish, but after hearing the daily special we ended up going for their 32oz TOMAHAWK dinner for 2 option which came with 2 salad wedges, sautéed garlic and broccolini, twice baked potato, a lobster tail, 32oz tomahawk steak, and a chocolate brownie for dessert. In addition, we also ordered some Crispy Calamari ($16), Wild Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($23), and a Colorado Lamb Loin ($60) to share. Crispy Calamari: Light and not over-battered. Super addictingggg. Would definitely order again (5/5) Wild Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail: 4 thick, juicy shrimps with a small side of arugula salad. It was good, but pricey at $4 per shrimp (4/5) Lobster Tail: Again, thick and juicy - I mean, just look at the picture. Personally not a huge fan of lobster, but the parents seemed to enjoy it (5/5) Tomahawk: Medium rare, cooked to perfection. Super tender and well seasoned - albeit a bit saltier than I would like (4/5) Colorado Lamb Loin: Had to send this one back because it came out too red/bloody when I ordered it medium to medium-well. I've had lamb before, and Cielo's was way too chewy and not at all tender. Also not sure what the sauce/topping over the lamb was, but I was not a fan of it (1/5) Aside from the food, the service was top-notch. I rarely leave a review but this place was too good not to. Had dinner with my husband 2/25/22 around 7pm and it was 10/10 all around. Get a hold on a reservation if you can, we were seated promptly upon arrival. The food from beginning to end was amazing. We had Seasonal oysters, sirloin and New York strip steak, baked potato, Mac and cheese, and ended with the butter cake. All amazing. Service was amazing as well. Another thing; all the prices are all a cart so most places offer bread at the table. Not this place. You gotta pay 8 bucks for a basket of bread. Something else I found odd for this level of restaurant is there was no salt and pepper on the tables. When my pasta dish arrived, they don't offer any Parmesan. I don't get it. Higher than normal prices and they sure want a 28 to 32 percent tip on top of the bill. Honestly, food was good but the rest no so much. The awesome service, ambience, and the pretty view are what you go for! I like the sides, and the salads, but, the main dishes and desserts really don't have anything notable. Sorry :-( It is sparkling clean, and so pretty! Its on the fancy shmancy side, so dress nice or you'll stand out for sure. Like all fancy shmancy places, its a bit more dough for dinner. Coming in from LA, we were an hour early for our reservation. The dining room was only HALF full. We were seated an hour & a half later with the dining room close to EMPTY!!! Poor, poor form Cielo hosts. For that reason I regretfully may NOT be back. Perhaps a review in hospitality management for your hostess would help customers like me feel more welcome & ultimately return. As for the dining room, bar & kitchen staff... BRAVO & WELL DONE!!! This restaurant was SUCH a disappointment!! We went there tonight to celebrate my Dad's 85th Birthday and it was one issue after another! I am a foodie and dine out often and this just wasn't close to what I would expect for both the price and the high accolades it gets. The space and the view are spectacular but everything else was subpar! For $1000 meal, I expect top notch service and it was so uneven, sloppy and the food quality was mediocre at best! They made us order drinks and our entire meal all at once and then they brought out the appetizers & salads together not coursed out like a top restaurant should be, I was SO annoyed by this!! Then my $25 split of champagne was warm and flat plus it took about 15-20 min to get our drinks and when I spend $$$$ on a meal, I like to sip my drink leisurely, then enjoy each course on its own, not stacked on top of one another! The lighting in the restaurant has a blue cast because of the tinted windows so it makes their meat look muddy and overcooked, so weird! The steak tartare was a brown mushy mess and honestly all the food was way beneath the quality I would expect for the price!! Oh and after triple confirming our reservation and that we were celebrating an 85th birthday the waiter wished my 18 year old a very happy birthday and put the birthday desert in front of him, I mean SERIOUSLY!! First the hostess asked about dietary restrictions so I mentioned I'm vegetarian. The server offers me 2 vegetarian options not on the menu: pasta primavera and roasted vegetable plate. I chose the pasta and it was a great choice. It really was special for them to make this especially for me. Dave ordered the ribeye steak and loved it. And it was HUGE. Cooked perfectly. To start with got the baked Brie and OMG!! It was gooey and buttery. So great along with the 2 kinds of bread. For dessert we ordered their signature Butter Cake. I know cake and this was one of the best. Served with vanilla ice cream. So good. They gave us an anniversary brownie with a lemon macaron which we enjoyed the next day. Yummy.
