We tried to switch to Cicero Pool and Spa in an order to spend more money locally versus big box stores with our pool opening/closings. Our experience with closing was VERY poor, would definitely not recommend. They entered our backyard with no notice, did not follow what we requested for services on the intake form and then we received a bill for $620.12 which was $220 higher than what was originally quoted to us. Since they never knocked or rang the bell to let us know they were here, they up charged us for all sorts of products (plugs, risers, chemicals and antifreeze) that we had already provided and were ready to go based on their own assessment and services we had specifically requested not be done ($75 to install the cover that my husband can install himself). If we had been given the chance to review what they were planning to do or the notice of the up charges, we would have been happy to pay the larger bill for any needed services or products. When we called the office, they refused to take our complaints seriously and only refunded $75 for the "cover fee" that my husband has explicitly requested they not do. Overall with the lack of pricing transparency up front and poor customer service, we won't be returning to Cicero Pool and Spa and will be going back to Pools of Fun for future needs. read more

this business sold a few years ago. we have been a customer for over 25 yrs. last year the inexperienced pool person put the wrong chemicals in our pool. turned it glowing green. Close to where we need to drain and start over. I called them, they wouldn't answer the phone so we stopped in, office manager Mandy was absolutely insulting. talked with the owner ( her brother) he calmed the situation down and said they would fix it. well month later water looks better but got a huge bill ! This year they open the pool and sent 1 guy, we do not have auto cover and this employee has personally opened this pool 6-7 times. I ask him where his help is he said the guy is on his way. Turns out it was the office manager. she dumped a bunch of leaves in the pool because she wasn't experienced enough to know better. They left the pool cover spread out in the yard and said they would come back that evening or next morning. they no showed. I called and they wanted to charge us extra to come take care of the cover. i asked isn't that part of the opening. she said yes but they only had the 1 guy there to open and he can't do it himself. so THEIR lack of staffing is my fault. she actually said that ! They didn't check any of the system and come to find out they left a huge leak. Mandy said she can't have anyone out intil next week sometime. " we have to many customers to service already ". Took 6 gallon bottles of chlorination liquid to reach just above 5 ppm this spring after this business replaced our liner but refused to come out and stop 7 leaking areas (3 of 4 inlets, light, drain, both skimmers). I placed gaskets on the inlets where they claimed not required and drainage slowed down. I ordered on line the sealant for skimmers and picked up two skimmer gaskets and the drainage slowed down. Didn't use both of those gaskets after scrubbing off the colored algae them seemed reusable. Unfortunately I couldn't find a diver who was free before winter hit to attend to the leaking drain gaskets. From all the crud around the light this spring, doubt its toad eggs, it looks like I need to replace the gaskets (if they even used the required 2). Its hard to use my electronic leak detection equipment around the light niche due to its ground wire. Impossible is better word to use than hard. It did however detect improvement at the drain after sending a kid down with underwater silicone as did measured leakage loss. Fortunately even though our light looked cloudy a bit after they installed the liner their improper loosing of the lamps inner gasket seal hasn't shocked us. Proper professionals would have replaced that seal when their inexperienced personnel mistakenly loosened the bolt after told by his leader to disconnect the light in order to place the new liner in place. Why they didn't use proper sealant on the skimmers is beyond me as are many things including failure to seat the liner bead first rather than last leaving rain/snow/splash entry points behind the liner. The liner seems to be a bit too small at the steps which caused tugging off each steps sidewall giving it a unprofessional appearance and perhaps dangerous let alone subject to premature failure and internal pool wall destruction due to water entry at gaps. Six bottles may sound normal if your pool is 3 times larger than ours. For nearly 7 years 1.5 gallons of liq. Chlorine was plenty for our openings. Used a lot of chlorine and algae killer last year waiting for these folks to just come look at the issues they eventually said they would after several calls to them. It clouded up all summer and you could see all the particles in the water at night with the light on even long before it clouded up. I never had to treat for mustard algae in old liner, in fact rarely did i have to treat for green algae until late summer after fishing out all the dead and alive toads daily. They took all my old parts for their repair box rather than leave me with them and only installed inlet direction balls on 3 of 4 inlets. If they left my parts as required by law of auto mechanics (that law was passed to cut down auto dealer etc repair fraud) I wouldn't have to purchase another one nor would have had to purchase inlet covers which cracked due to their over tightening them, warping them due to failure to use two gaskets; one inner and one outer. Parts etc are less expensive on line and at Roger's pool supply in Castleton. Now I know who a couple of local diners were discussing at the restaurant couple years ago when a forth party needed his new liner and the company the others hired left leaks where as the out of town installer did a good job. The workers moved to a spot in the yard they thought the camera couldn't see. Certainly sounded like they were talking about this local company. Should have listened to my gut feelings n skipped them. Naturally I chose a indy mfgr for our new winter cover. These folks became an anchor industry carrier last year after speaking with anchor industry about their outdated/no longer in business and distant retailers unwilling to support anchors easy turnkey program. Need a new cover for less than half of what anchor retailers charge-with no measurement fees charged by distant anchor ind. retailers/dealer (measurement fee even though have it on file from nine years ago!)? "Dozens" of pictures i could attach here. Beware. I didn't realize how bad merlin liner mfgr support was, nor this retailer. I should have, the previous owner told me his old clients were calling him left and right to come stop the leaks these ppl left. Wife wanted to give them a shot rather than pay a bit more for company in Muncie to travel this far. Bigger mistake if I wasn't able to diagnose and resolve myself. Unfortunately though I can't dive to the bottom anymore. Although thinking about draining the pool to fix the leaking drain gaskets; or file small claims for their failure to at least come verify my claims they deny over the telephone with bogus promises to come out to see for themselves. read more
