The hotel staff is wonderful BUT the owner needs to do better. This is a very unique and serene place. But you have to understand what you are getting into when you stay here. They do have a small menu for breakfast. But lunch and dinner is a meal the chef chooses and that is all there is. You will be sitting at a group table with other guests. We never had the lunch so I can't speak on that. The dinners we did. Now the dinner were good BUT after the cost, service fee and tip that automatically get charged, each dinner for each person is $95, both nights the severed a stater soup, main plate and a dessert. $95 seemed high to me. I strongly recommend bring your own snack and a small ice chest. There are no refrigerators in the room. I think the owners suite does have a refrigerator but that is over 2k a night and is the owners suite when he wants to be there. So he makes sure he has comforts. There are NO TVs in any room. There is a media room that has a TV and then again the owners suite has a TV. Again the owner has these small comforts. There was not enough hot water for a whole shower. We booked an ATV tour which on the website they say they have side by side and single rider ATV for this tour. I personally didn't want to drive an ATV I wanted my husband to drive and their site said they had a side by side. Well they do have a side by side but they said no to taking it out for the ATV tour. We also booked the mountain tour, which is in there open air Humvee. BUT their hunters vehicles down so the hunting group got the mountain tour Humvee and we were stuck in the side by side for our mountain tour. We had the driver, us and another couple, so 5 people. The side by side had no business and was uncomfortable having 5 people in this side by side for the tour. But then going down the mountains in the side by side the brakes went out and we had to wait for a ride back. Now the Marfa sky's are amazing and Cibolo has a big telescope but apparently has not work for many many months. I feel the owner needs to pony up some funds, make sure the vehicles are in working order. Have a side by side that can be used for ATV tours like there website states. Fix the telescope. Make sure what ever the hot water problem was is fixed. But some small refrigerators in the rooms at the least. But overall the property was amazing and we will stay at again but the owner needs to do better. read more

Cibolo Creek Ranch is neither a hotel nor a resort. This is a B&B where all the bad news is hidden until you arrive. We made reservations for one night - to check it out for a subsequent week stay with 4 adults. We went to Paws Up and Orvis Lodges in the past - thus our expectations. Cibolo send a text asking our arrival time - which was 5:30 to 6:30 as we were driving from Tucson. We called around 5 and said arrival would be around 7:00. The response was "OK then, we will cancel your dinner." First hidden clue - no food after 6:30 PM. So - with NO DINNER, we stopped at the St. George in Marfa - and had a dinner and texted and said we would be there around 9:00. The return text said the front desk closes at 6:00 PM. Second clue this is a B&B. When we arrived, finally, there are no lights anywhere. We could barely find the turn off - then up a dirt road for several miles in total blackness. Then the outline of a building - again no lights, not signage, nothing. We walked to what appeared to be a front door and found someone who said "welcome." They took our luggage to our room. In the room, a notice that everything has a 15% service fee - just because. More hidden info. Third clue. In the morning, we skipped the shower and left as fast as we could. But the pain was not over. We had to lug our heavy wheeled bags through a long parking lot - gravel - like pulling your luggage on a beach. Nobody to help. As we were loading the car, an employee, in almost total darkness, drove past the rear of our car so fast she almost hit us. Fourth clue. This place is NOT a resort. It is NOT a hotel. This is a B&B and a crappy one at that. If you want resort outdoor experiences, check out Paws Up or Orvis Lodges in Montana. And they have no hidden messages. read more

Cibolo Creek Ranch - Drag your luggage to your car - Ranches Near Me - Marfa, Texas

I have 2 complaints about this ranch. First their horses were so maltreated it was not even funny. I felt so extremely sorry for these animals. They had one horse that was so lame it could hardly walk plus their was a huge, deep gash in it's face that was infected. The gash was about 3/4 of an inch deep. It was disgusting! I complained about the horses' condition (to the ranch hand and manager) and they made it perfectly clear they could care less! The owner of this facility comes to the ranch all the time. How he could allow the horses to be so mistreated is beyond my comprehension. My second complaint is we had booked some reservations on-line. We had not received a confirmation email so we called. We were informed that their website has not been operational for awhile regarding reservations and they have had people show up thinking they had reservations, when in fact they had no reservations due to an inoperable website. It is very easy to get this fixed. Completely unexpectable! The person who we spoke with on the phone did not care what so every. The owner of this ranch needs to get more involved and clean house. I found this situation inexcusable. read more

Before coming, I read the reviews, and I was confused about why there were so many 5 star and 1 start reviews with nothing in between. Now I understand. It is a very different experience from any place I have ever stayed, so it is hard to make comparisons, but I will say... Before you book a stay here, know what you are getting yourself in to. My wife and I stayed here for the first four nights of our honeymoon. We had an absolutely lovely experience, but I am trying to decouple my review of the ranch resort, from the newlywed bliss... Starting with the good... (1)The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. On our morning walks with our dogs, we would see deer, javelina, horses, donkeys, and some exotics. The views were astounding, and it is so spread out that we only once ran into another guest on one of our walks. (2) The food was really pretty good. The dinners were excellent, and the lunches and breakfasts were acceptable. (3) It is easy to genuinely unplug here. I didn't check my email the whole time and that is the longest I have gone without doing that since I was in high school. (4) This place is very dog friendly. They have a ranch dog that wanders the property and will let himself right into your room if you let him. We let our dogs run off leash, swim in the ponds, and play with the ranch dog. It was so nice to be able to let the dogs run wild and have a blast and come back to the room ready to pass out. Otherwise, travelling with dogs can be really stressful. (5) Other than a few WEIRD details below, the room was gorgeous. The weird/bad.... (1) I am not a picky eater, so I loved the dinners, but it is important to note that you don't order here. They just give you what they made for that meal. So if you are a picky eater, you may have a less enjoyable dining experience. (2) No food options outside of meals... I was prepared for no room service in the middle of nowhere (even though the cost would suggest otherwise), but I thought they would at least have chips, drinks, protein bar, ice cream, etc. available for purchase somewhere for a late night snack. They don't. If you get hungry after dinner, you are out of luck. (3) The above would be fine and you could just bring your own snacks. However, the rooms don't have fridges. (4) We stayed in the Owner's Pool House Suite. We thought it was just the room name, but it quickly became clear it is actually where the owner stays when he is at the property. The first thing we did when we got there was put away family photos that were hung on the walls and place on surfaces, because it felt a little weird to be sleeping in his bedroom... Also since the closet was locked (presumably because the owner keeps his clothes there, there was no place to hang any clothes. For that matter there also was not a dresser. Lastly, the bed was a queen-sized bed. Luckily we were honeymooning, and didn't feel the need for a lot of personal space, but I thought it was odd that the suite had a queen-sized better rather than a king. (5) Meals are all served at long tables sitting with other hotel guests. This isn't a bad thing, I actually really enjoyed meeting some new people and this fostered a sense of community with the other guests, but it is odd. If you are looking for a quiet dinner with just your family or a romantic dinner with your significant other... not going to happen here. (6) There were some weird quirks to the hospitality. We had to go talk to the front desk a couple times while we were there, and each time they sorta acted like we were interrupting something and looked confused about why we would be coming to ask them questions. (7) The gym is really not good. They don't even exercise mats for doing floor exercises, no mirror for checking form, and old equipment. All this being said, you can have a wonderful experience here (as I did), but if you don't go into it knowing what to expect, I can totally understand how someone could be very disappointed. read more

Everything about our stay at Cibolo Creek Ranch was so cool. It felt more like staying at somebody's ranch as a house guest, only they're never home. The staff are great and the grounds are gorgeous. One of my favorite mornings was spent wandering a road that led me past some flowing creek beds and ruins from settlers of the area. Hands down the best thing we did here was staying a night at Fort Morita- it was a once in a lifetime experience and was really amazing to be that far from civilization. I definitely got into it and by the next morning felt like a little miniature Milton Faver myself. There's a ton of activities to do: my husband went out on an ATV while I hiked, we went horseback riding, shooting, and took a cool mountain tour where you could see the entire terrain of the area. Just to echo other reviews, ABSOLUTELY get the meal plan. The dinners are delicious and there's literally nowhere decent to eat within an hour radius anyways. I normally hate the idea of communal eating, and one of the nights I just wasn't up for it at all, but in general it was really nice to be forced to be social. We did have wine with our meals, but I'd recommend grabbing a bottle of whiskey for your own use... makes it easier to top off a drink without having to find somebody. I'd love to come back with a group of friends... Now I just have to make friends that will drop that much on a ranch getaway! lol read more

Our favorite getaway! Remote, peaceful and absolutely beautiful! Cibolo Creek Ranch is the best kept secret in Texas! We visit regularly and find it extremely difficult to leave this tranquil resort. Upon arrival you unplug from the hustle of the big city...you're surrounded by luxurious amenities and wonderful staff taking care of all that your heart desires. This place is a non-caring rip off. I made reservations on-line for a high end expensive 3 night stay and called them right after to let them know my wife and I were coming down to Marfa to visit the art scene and relax. Never did they share that Marfa was essentially closed due to Covid. After trying to make dinner reservations in town and book gallery visits I learned that things were closed due to the pandemic. I called the hotel three hours after making the reservation to cancel and let them know we would rebook when things were open. The receptionist insisted on charging me $900, saying their "policy" was to always charge on cancellations--even if reservations were just made. I asked to speak with the manager and left my name and number--and never heard back. If you are going to spend big bucks on a stay---do it at a place that cares about customer service--this place is a rip off. read more

Absolutely everything is spot on about this place. It's gorgeous, the service is flawless and the grounds are beautiful. Get the meal plan. The food is incredible. They will accommodate just about any dietary needs. There are activities like horseback riding, site seeing and paddle boating. And of course there is plenty of relaxation to be had. Spend the money, it's well worth it. There is a very communal feeling here (group dining and no locks on the doors) which makes it even more relaxing. read more

lousy service, lovely setting. We as a group had the strangest 2 nights/3 days of visiting the ranch. No hospitality, no proper Texas welcome, the manager was smug and disinterested. The staff was very nice but clearly overworked and under appreciated. Food ok, and the bar was only open for a brief moment before dinner and closed after dinner. The land is beautiful, the birds are great, and the hiking very good. Would not return or recommend to anyone. read more

Save your money and go to a real resort in Texas. Instead of staying 4 nights, we left after one night- after having spent $750. for zip. No help with luggage, no refrigerator or tv in room, door curtains fell on my head, no room key, no bar, lake view hidden by corridor, no menu- eat what you get (sub par Mexican food), or bring your own peanut butter. This giant land grab with its token cattle and agriculture tax write offs is a FAKE RESORT. read more

Extraordinarily overpriced camp for wealthy Texans.; NOT the relaxing resort it thinks it is. Upon arrival, and after calling from the front gate, there was no one to greet me anywhere. I walked with my luggage through the entire property and saw no one. I had to ask another guest where the office was to check in. I was then notified that the massage I had booked and prepaid for wouldn't happen because the massage therapist was unavailable during my entire stay. Meals are eaten TOGETHER at mixed tables, and Sunday dinner everyone eats together. Horrifying for a single traveler. You must purchase a separate meal plan with your expensive, TV-less and wifi-less room and the food is terrible. Drinks are a la carte, but stick to beer and wine unless you want a high schooler making your margarita. The new owner seemed friendly and personable, but he has a lot of work ahead to turn this place around.
