We enjoyed the ravioli, the meatballs with bucatini and the chicken Parmesan. Each was well flavored but not overly salty and pasta cooked Al denté . Expertly mixed cocktails. The bartender knew what he was doing. The service was friendly and excellent from the hostess who found a way to fit us in without a reservation on a Friday night to the waitress who helped us find a dry spot indoors when the rain came while we were on the patio. My husband took me to Ciao for my birthday. It was a nice place for a romantic dinner. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. The quality and freshness of the dishes exceeded my expectations. We started with the pork belly appetizer and then had the veal romano and a spicey Italian sausage pasta special, we finished with the tiramisu. Excellent Italian restaurant in downtown Wausau!!!The Prosciutto wrapped asparagus was amazing! I really liked the Beet salad. The lobster bisque was good because it wasn't too rich with cream. My husband enjoyed the house made raviolis stuffed with a mixture of fresh ground sirloin and pork, imported Italian cheeses and fresh spinach. Tonight was my first time at Ciao and it was fantastic! Everything I had was wonderful, but the Espresso and Stout Pork Belly was by far my favorite. It was so tender and delicious. The espresso and stout sauce was so delicious I wanted to drink what remained. The pear martini was not only beautiful but delicious. The Sausage & Gnocchi was probably the best gnocchi I've ever had. It was so tender and I think there was just as much sausage as there was gnocchi. All in all I would highly recommend Ciao. You can't go wrong with fresh homemade pasta! read more

Stopped in here at 5:40 this evening Tuesday July 27th. I'm visiting Some relatives and they said ciao would be great. We (the 3 of us) walked in and asked if we could be seated outside. The lady asked if we had a reservation? We said no, and she said she has no available seating outside. We replied, we will sit inside then. She then said, I'm booked until 630 or 7. Odd that a restaurant that's pretty much empty wouldn't seat us. We left a little confused and thought it was odd. 10 minutes later I decided to call. out of curiosity I asked if they could get three people in in about five minutes. She said yes no problem. I wonder if the owner or manager knows this is going on. Not good for business. Good luck if you go here. I wouldn't go back after being treated so poorly. Sorry if I have typos in this. We had an outstanding experience at Ciao! Busy Wednesday night, but they were able to seat us on the street so we could hear the live music on the square. Amanda was an outstanding server despite being very busy with a large table nearby. Buffalo mozzarella caprese, crab cake, lobster bucatini, wedge salad...all delicious. Tiramisu was one of the best we've had! Salted caramel bodino was also a hit. We would definitely come back!! read more

All expensive yet good. Makes pasta from scratch. They still have that creepy guy when it had a different name to the restaurant. with the rat tail thing that is rude to men yet stares at women. This was a few weeks ago but I wanted to make sure I mentioned this! I was there with friends and the waitress Amanda (so amazing) was listing off the specials. There was a special that sounded amazing but was not vegetarian friendly. She offered to ask the chef if he could make it vegetarian safe. She came back and told me he could and even offered to put a different vegetable on it it make it heartier. When it came out it had a lot of different vegetables on it which I never would have expected! It was wonderful and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had dining in at a restaurant. Chef Adam is amazing and you can tell he cares about his food. Absolutely love going there. read more

Best restaurant in Wausau, and honestly it's the best pasta we've ever had (and we used to live in the Boston area, so we know good pasta). Our boys especially love the pork belly appetizer and the bolognese entree; my personal favorite is the beet salad with the pesto pasta. All of the desserts are amazing, too - I dream about the budino. Tara is the world's greatest bartender - she makes a delicious sidecar and her kalimotxos are the best you'll get outside of Boise or the Basque country. read more

Good food, HORRIBLE SERVICE. I came in with a group of 6 guys on Tuesday night all of us from out of state . We sat at around 6pm and our server (Catherine) was so high she forgot about us multiple times keeping us there for almost 3 hours. I ordered a salad (as an app) and the waitress brought it and gave it to a DIFFERENT guy at the table, coincidentally the guy she spent all her time flirting with. An entire hour later the gentleman who sat us came to fill waters and asked if we needed anything, I said I needed the salad our waitress gave away. He returned promptly with my salad. Unfortunately the waitress showed up before I took a bite with our entrees. Then she disappeared again (without an apology for the salad) and we didn't see her until our meal was finished. I wanted another drink but she was never around to order one. She should spend less time flirting and getting stoned and more time doing her job. We dined at Ciao on Friday, 4.30. We arrived around 7pm for a party of 2 and were promptly seated. We each ordered a different drink off of their drink menu and both were good and as to be expected. For our entrees, I ordered the bolognese. My parter ordered the sea scallops, to which he was promptly told those were 86'd, all out of those for the night. This was approximately 7:30 pm, on a Friday night. The scallops were not on a special Chef's menu or anything for the night, which could justify a quick sell out if that had been the case but the scallops were/are on the regular menu as a regular entree item. Flabbergasted, my partner hastily order the Veal Cutlets. Our food took longer than to be expected to be brought out. My bolognese was a complete disappointment. My favorite dish at Michael's was their bolognese. It was always very good. What I had at Ciao can only be described as glorified Hamburger Helper. I was so disappointed. It was very dry, flavorless, and I was hard-pressed to taste anything other than dry ground beef despite the menu claiming it was a mix of ground beef, pork, and veal. The odor from my partner's veal cutlets was so offensive that the table behind us used their menu to fan the air. As if the smell were not enough, the presentation itself was incredibly disappointing and unsatisfactory. The veal itself was incredibly mushy and chewy. My partner could not and did not eat it. We boxed it up and our dog got to enjoy $24 veal cutlets for dinner. While our waitress was very insincere throughout our whole dining experience, she did offer to get my partner a different dish but his appetite was long gone. Extremely disappointed in our experience at Ciao. I understand rough/bad nights can happen at any restaurant but not like this, to this level, at this price point of a place. Horrible experience last night. The host (maybe manager?) Was sweating so much his shirt was drenched, apparently the owner is too cheap to use air conditioning? Then our server Amanda was very unfriendly and rude to us. She was inattentive and didn't even know how to properly open or pour wine! You'd think in a place like this the bare minimum would be knowing how to pour wine. She also stunk like alcohol at the beginning of our meal and cigarettes towards the end, after she disappeared. I will never go back and will encourage my friends and family not to waste their time. read more

We were traveling through Wausau and spending the night there! Not being familiar with restaurants in Wausau we checked Yelp for a recommendation and discovered Ciao on your site! It is new (November 2019) so not too much info on it but the menu looked inviting and there were two good reviews on the site so we gave it a try! It was a great decision! Ciao is an undiscovered gem and will soon be difficult to get into as more people become aware of it. The string is very comfortable and inviting!The food is wonderful from appetizers, salads, entrees - including House made pasta - and House made deserts! A very nicely varied menu! We each had a well made cocktail and then enjoyed a bottle of Caymus Cabernet which is very reasonably priced for such a great bottle..the wine list is very nice and presents a nice variety of types of wine and a nice variety of pricing! A very pleasant surprise. Last - but not least - was the very welcoming and very professional staff! Everyone we had contact with did a great job of making us feel comfortable and gave great recommendations re the menu! items All in all an excellent experience and we certainly will visit again as our travels take us that way!
