Good service, very good food, very busy but worth the wait if you don't want to go downtown

Two pasta dishes, the garlic in olive oil with non GMO bread brought to the table as soon as we're we're seated, good house wine, and easy on the wallet.

Came here a few times while I visited Oaxaca. I have to say that this is genuinely a great bakery…read more Everything I got there was delicious. The English muffin in particular is to die for! I kid you not, best English muffin I have ever had . If you're wondering what to order you should grab their breakfast sandwich with the English muffin. 10/10! Add a little salsa macha and you got yourself gourmet meal. Everyone here was super helpful and nice. The cashier in the bakery recommended some sweets that I ended up loving. And the servers in the restaurant were also kind. This is the spot to get a wonderful breakfast! You can't go wrong with what you order.

Boulenc is a breakfast and cafe spot in the city center of Oaxaca. It's popular among tourists but…read morealso among locals as well. We went a little before open and there was already a small line forming. We ordered the ham and cheese croissant ($145 MXN) and the shakshuka ($135). The croissant was soft and I liked the cheesiness and creaminess. The shakshuka had a bit of spice and I liked dipping the bread into the sauce. The eggs were a little hard though and not runny at all. Both of these dishes were delicious and I still think about the shakshuka even today. For drinks we had the flat white ($58) and iced latte ($63) which were also good. We usually don't go to the same place more than once during our travels but this place was just so good we had to. This was my favorite brunch spot and I can see why it's such a popular spot.

I tried the pizza during my first visit…read more This time, I opted for the pasta. My boyfriend ordered the four cheese pasta and I got the arrabiata. The four cheese was extremely bland. The only flavor that it had was "stinky feet." The arrabiata was also bland. It just tasted like tomatoes. It was supposed to have onions and chiles too, but it didn't really taste like it. When I've had arrabiata at other restaurants it's usually a little spicy. I was extremely disappointed. Also, the bread that they served us before the meal tasted like it was stale and freezer burned (at the same time). Additionally, there was mold in the bowl of parmesan that they gave me for my pasta. I didn't notice until after I was almost finished (and I had used a lot of parmesan to try to add flavor). I'm really underwhelmed. The pasta ranged from mediocre to bad and the service was extremely slow. Even though this place is very close to my apartment, I will not be back. I will go to the other Italian place (a block away) or I will dump some Prego on some noodles and it'll be more flavorful.

My partner and I stopped at La Rústica for dinner on a night when we just felt like having pizza…read moreand salad instead of a big Mexican dinner. We were not disappointed. We ordered two glasses of wine, a Mista salad and a medium size pizza with mushrooms and chorizo. We were told the small pizza wasn't enough for 2 people. The salad was served with fresh from the oven bread and two salsas, one was a not too spicy pesto, the other fiery hot red chilies. The vegetables in the salad were fresh as could be and the bread was tasty, but we only took a bite as we were waiting for a pizza after all. The pizza, which was larger than we anticipated, was bubbling hot, the crust was tasty, thin and crisp. The cheese, sauce and toppings made for a delicious pie, but with the addition of some of the pesto salsa it was a home run. It just proved to be too much pizza for us and we were able to finish only half of it. We suspect the small pizza would have been just right. Bottom line, we highly recommend this cozy place if you're looking for a great pizza and fresh salad.
