But the item to order to get a healthy sampling of their menu was the Comal Mayordomo, which came with some of everything: tasajo (grilled beef), cecina (marinated grilled pork), chorizo (spicy pork sausage), costilla frita (fried pork ribs), guacamole with chapulines, quesillo, queso fresco, blue corn quesadillas and memelitas, tamal oaxaqueño (masa filled with chicken in black mole), chile relleno (pepper stuffed with beef stew), and tacos dorados (rolled fried tortillas topped with mole). Everything was delicious in its own way, but the highlight was the freshly-made blue corn tortillas, which paired perfectly with all the different components. If you do order a torta, I would suggest getting a different protein than chorizo. I also ordered a tostada de pulpo. I was very thrown off as the seafood and the octopus in it were slightly warm. To my understanding, seafood should be refrigerated and kept cool so it does not go bad so I was slightly concerned as it felt like it had been sitting outside for a while. The flavor was not great either, quite bland like there were no seasonings or preparation from the octopus or the rest of the toppings.

But the only good thing about our New Year's Eve experience at this restaurant was that it gave us some funny stories about how bad our experience was. We paid for a three course meal, and the first course didn't arrive until 11:30 -- after we complained and asked to be moved to a section with different servers. The main course was delivered at midnight. None of the food was awful but none was particularly good. They seemed to be confused about what beers they have, and I'm not sure they know what wine is. My girlfriend ordered red wine and got a glass grape juice --- that's not a joke, they actually put grape juice in a wine glass and delivered it to our table. The champagne toast wasn't champagne either; it was some sort of fruit liqueur. If you're looking for a beer and a snack at a local place with a good view, you should stop by this restaurant for a short visit. Otherwise, you should spend your time in any of the many incredible places we discovered in this beautiful city.
