Great lunch spot! Bagel sandwiches were delicious. The man helping us was very friendly and spoke English.

I hate to be the naysayer after reading so many great reviews about the desserts/meringues at this…read moreplace. I walked by this place and saw all the beautiful meringues on display, and loved watching the pastry chefs work their magic with the mixers, making each dessert, and going inside and smelling all the sweet sugar and freshly baked goods. After reading all the rave reviews, I decided I wanted to try this and we got the praline flavor. The meringue is basically the base of the dessert and then it's topped with a chantilly cream which is really fresh and then it's topped with nuts or chocolate flakes, depending on the flavor. We got the praline one and it was topped with almonds and hazelnuts. While everything was really fresh and the pastry was light, it was just really sweet. Neither of us were really craving more, and we were glad we had only just gotten one to share. I can't remember the exact price but it was somewhere around 2,50-3€. For me, I'd much rather have an ice cream or some other kind of French patisserie. The desserts here are certainly unique and you probably won't find things like this elsewhere, but just not for me. I wouldn't come back here nor recommend it.

We loved everything and then started to read all about their amazing merengue. Love the chocolate and it's all perfectly French and quite outstanding. Highly recommended.

Duclef Patisserie in the Old City may be the best all around patisserie in Lyon…read more But if we are talking eclairs, There is one and only one establishment you want to go to. Les Eclaireurs. Nothing else comes close. Technically, Eclaireurs is a chain. There are four of them in Lyon. But then technically beaches are a chain too. Leave the beach you are on and walk along the shore, and you will find another beach. That doesn't means beaches aren't amazing. Les Eclaireurs is just as amazing - never mind how many outlets they have. All Les Eclaireurs does is eclairs. There are only about twelve kinds of eclairs in the showcase. There is no place to sit down. You have to take your eclair and eat it somewhere else. But these are eclairs that will shape your world. Eclairs that make life worth living. Payday, first romance, and the big promotion all at once. Some of the eclairs are savory rather than sweet. You can get a Nordic style salmon and dill eclair. You can get a Pear and Roquefort Eclair. You can get a Mortadella and Truffle Eclair. But they have plenty of sweet eclairs as well. Some are highly elaborate with many ingredients constructed on top of the eclair like a Lego competition. Some are simple and classic. Vanilla eclair, coffee eclair, chocolate eclair. Raspberry eclair which you have probably never had before - but the idea is simple enough. I went with a salted caramel with butter eclair. * * * The world stopped. * * * All the thoughts in my head stopped * * * Nothing existed in the universe any more except caramel, except salt, except butter. * * * Nothing remotely mattered except caramel, salt and butter. * * * It was a pure moment. * * * It was an intense moment. * * * It was a moment unlike any eclair moment I have had in nearly seventy years of eating eclairs. * * * It was an irreplaceable life experience. * * * Now when I left that store ... they had at least eleven kinds of eclairs I had not tried yet ... * * * Do you see a spoiler about what happens in the next episode?

If you decide to step foot inside this establishment, make sure you stick to this part of the menu. My fiance and I decided to let the Specialty Section of their menu do the talking. Between the two of us, we ordered a French Onion Soup, and and Lyon Andoulliete Sausage. The following hour would be considered the saddest moment of our entire trip. We sat there for 50 minutes, wondering when our food would come. No eye contact from servers, no refilling of water, no update on how far out our food was. We both plotted to dash before the food got there, but alas, as soon as we made that determination, there our food was. That's when things went from bad to worse. I watched my fiancé try to stifle her vomit when taking her first spoonful. Uncooked onions floating in a bowl of what looked like thrown up chile verde. On this end of the table, I stubbornly stuck to my guns thinking that I made the right choice with the fat sausage stewing in a pool of melted pub cheese sauce. Then i got to the middle of it. Uncooked. Depressed and defeated, we decided to cut out losses, pay the 36 Euro and drink a beer down the street until a Bouchon opened up. The waiter was confused as to why we were asking for the check so quickly. Looking at my fiance's untouched bowl of soup he had that audacity to ask if everything was ok. I could see my fiancé's eyes fill with rage and she told him we just wanted to pay and leave. To add insult to injury, he lost control of my credit card when handing it to me and my throat took the brunt of the force.
