This was my very first time to a Chuy's. The staff was great, the ambience was warm and inviting and fun. The food was a mixed bag... Chips were really good for the most part! Delicate and crispy and salty, and the salsa and ranch dip were very tasty. We did get a couple chips that really let us down (see pics). Enchiladas were also quite good, if a touch heavy in the stomach. Our sever was awesome and helpful though, and I do think I'd give Chuy's a second chance! read more

Arrived on Sunday at 5:30 PM. Got in quickly, ordered drinks which were delicious and delivered quickly. Ordered for 6 adults within 15 minutes from our gracious waitress. Our plates took over an hour to arrive. When complained, waitress said they were way behind and orders were very slow. Food and drinks were great and prices were good. Chips and salsa was tasty which was good bc it did take about 50 minutes for food to come out on a busy Saturday. Steak burrito was a little bland but still great portion / price and quite filling. As regulars we love Chuys, it's predictable and consistent so to say we were disappointed in this location is an understatement , I hope corporate pays attention. We arrived on Thursday evening at 9:05pm to enjoy dinner after a long day of moving. Again we looked forward to some good food. We were told we would have to wait 5 mins for a table as they were cleaning them...ok no problem. 20 mins later still no table. Every empty table in the bar area was dirty, there were tables in the dining area available but many were still dirty. We asked what the delay was and were told again just another 5 mins as they were cleaning a table for us. It was chaos! No one was cleaning, and no communication, others that were waiting after us were leaving. A server came up to the hostess and said he was ready to leave....but guess he would go ahead and take on a group, he asked what was waiting she said I've got a 4 or a 2 top. He said I'll take the 2. The hostess took them to a booth that obviously could seat 4. After still waiting a few more minutes we asked why she sat them ahead of us. Her response was the same just another 5 mins were bussing the tables. She then went to the bar area where the bartender and a waitress were griping about the day (this conversation was audible as we stood there starring waiting for some sort of acknowledgment to which neither of them thought to stop and ask if they could help us) the hostess told them what had happened and started crying! Seriously crying the older waitress patted her on the back and she ran off to the bathroom! We asked was there a manager on duty, she told us he was a visiting manager helping in the kitchen. She then went on to say they had a rush at 9pm, ran out chips , and now the manager was not available. It would be at least another 5mins before they could sit us. We left. After 30 mins of waiting....tables still dirty and no one making an attempt, we didn't want to take a chance on our food. We did see one busser eventually cleaning the bar tables....overwhelmed, however servers just standing around not helping him, a total lack of teamwork, communication, or care. This location has issues. We heard someone else say they had come earlier in the week and it was the same problem. If I could give this location a negative 5 stars I would. I've been in the service industry....honesty, communication, and empathy would have a gone a long way. Why not just say something like, "we are understaffed, we ran out of supplies, and we're sorry but we can't seat you tonight as we won't be able to give you the dining experience we want you to have." We would have been disappointed, but understood.... but at least we wouldn't have wasted 30 mins of our time and now have to find another restaurant still serving at almost 10pm, again we arrived at 9:05, they close at 10 so it's not like we walked in at 5 mins to close. Thursday nights most restaurants close at 10, so finding another was a challenge that may not have happened had we just been informed. Chuys, you're better than this. read more

We came to get to go Margs and were first given the wrong drink, it was on the rocks and we ordered frozen. Then they give us these supposed "20oz" marg but as the picture clearly shows it's about 3/4 full so around 16-17oz instead of the full 20. Both of our margaritas were this way. Lots of oldsters in the back having early lunch specials. The front had crowds of undergraduates who were completely wasted. Wasted at 11:30 am on a Monday Morning. You gotta like the non-cookie-cutter feel of a Chuy's. You never know quite what you are going to get. * * * Okay, I am sure that somewhere in San Marcos, there is a family run Central American restaurant that also does Tex-Mex specialties with a grandmother-recipe-salsa that will change your life. But every town in Texas has some sort of Mexican inspired restaurant with a homemade dish that will change your life. That is the beauty of living in Texas. But our Mexican chains are pretty damm fine too. Fuego's Tacos makes some of the best tacos on the planet. Torchy's Tacos makes fine tacos as well as having hidden double entendres and gags in the menu. Not every dish at Chuy's is a stand out wonder. GM Paige and managers Laura and Donna were amazing to work with. Lead Waitress Sun and her staff knocked it out of the park the night of the event. We have ordered take out probably 5-6 times and without fail they have messed up our order every single time. Which always results in us having to drive back to the restaurant a second time to pick up our fixed order. It's pretty ridiculous how much they mess up our orders. Tonight we ordered takeout and they completely forgot our sides and messed up my burrito. I will say though we have had to talk to a manager every single time and the managers are always very helpful. First time at Chuy's. Came here for a team dinner after a volleyball tournament in Buda. A 5star rating is well deserved at this location. Our server, Raudy was cool as a cucumber dealing with our noisy and hungry group of 20. We ordered a variety of items and drinks. Everything was good. Jhett is a STAR!! Chuy's is a go-to stop for Tex-Mex, and most of you already know how good the food & drinks are. The Fajita Nachos and Baja Shrimp Tacos were delicious as always. BUT the STAR of this locale was our server 'Jhett!' (Yes, this is correctly spelled.). He was easily the best server we have had in months! He had them plate our shared dishes separately to make them easier to eat, refilled or replaced drinks without us having to ask, and assisted with a smile at every juncture! After coming back for a second time, we had a great experience! Shoutout to our server Jhett for being an OUTSTANDING WAITER! He was super friendly and gave us some awesome recommendations. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we started out with the guacamole. It's was super fresh and loved how hot the chips were each time they came to our table. Then we tried the chicken fajita quesadillas. They were pretty big! I wasn't expecting them to be that large. They were hot and crispy. Our main meal was the comida deluxe and Chuychanga. The comida deluxe was quite a large plate. The enchiladas were on the spicer side. I chose to get all rice, since I'm not a huge bean fan. I liked all the different flavors on this plate. The taco was nicely seasoned and liked how crispy the chicken flautas tasted. Lots going on and delicious! The Chuychanga was boom boom tastic according to Jeff! We really try to like Chuys. We have been dining at the various Austin locations for years. When the San Marcos one opened we were thrilled. The food is the same great quality as the Austin locations. Lately myself and my wife had been going to the bar on a Friday afternoon and having a beer/margarita and some queso and chips. Just unwind after a long week. We really enjoyed it. No more. The last time was mid November 2024, and the service was terrible in the bar area. Not blaming the wait-staff, but they only had one waitress in the bar and she couldn't handle the work load. Too many customers for just her. We waited 25 minutes before we were asked what we wanted. Another 15 for our drinks to come. Again the waitress wasn't lazy, she was getting after it. Just too much. And don't blame the damn Pandemic! That's over. The margaritas were a mistake because they were the worst I have had at this store. There was way too much lime mix and for a $14 top shelf margarita it was hard to finish, I should have sent it back. My enchiladas were really good and my wife had the Panchos which had a huge portion and her guacamole was great. It was pretty busy and the service was a little slow. Every Chuys is the closest place to heaven on earth, but this one is special to me. Everytime I roll up to this establishment I know it's going to knock my god damn socks off, and I'm never disappointed. You know exactly what you're going to get here. Affordable, a little above average Tex mex and maybe a cheeky margarita if you get down like that. Everything on the menu is good and the service is always quick and pleasant. You must try the creamy jalapeño dip that comes with your chips at the beginning, it's to die for. This is my daughter's go to restaurant when she is in town. My favorite dish is the Chile relleno plate which they haven't had since Covid started.
