A group of my friends and I had been out at an event near Valley Ranch and decided to get some dinner after it was over. Chuy's at the Valley Ranch shopping center is fairly new and we figured we would give it a try. We got there around 7:30 pm and it wasn't too crowded, being a Tuesday night and we they quickly set up a table for 8 people. Our server was a young girl and came out to take drink orders. In 5 minutes or so she was back and started taking the food orders. I don't envy servers who wait tables with a large group of friends like ours as they need to keep track of who is with who, couples vs single diners but she did a good job. Chuy's like most Mexican style restaurants serves chips and salsa at the start when you sit down but they also famously serve their complimentary signature Creamy Jalapeño salsa, a popular zesty, ranch-based dip. This creamy green sauce, often called "green sauce," is a staple, frequently referred to as part of the "three amigos" along with the chips and red salsa. We didn't order any starters, just the main course and it was a bit slow coming out considering that the restaurant wasn't very crowded. I always wonder why this happens, are they short handed in the kitchen? I had ordered the Burrito Bowl with shrimp and my choice of rice was what they call Green Chili Rice as a base instead of Mexican Rice. I also asked for a CUP of their Tortilla soup on the side. After a fairly long wait and consuming way too many chips our food came out. The table soon got quite crowded as they tend to serve the sides like rice and beans in separate dishes from the main entrees. She must have misunderstood because I got Mexican rice as the base of my bowl and a big side of the Green Chili rice. No biggie; then she put down an enormous bowl of soup, seemed like almost a quart! I asked if this was the CUP or the BOWL and she said, "Oh sorry, I thought you said bowl." But then said, "No problem I will only charge you for the cup" which was nice. We all ate and for the most part everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The Burrito Bowl is a great way to go if you don't want a heavy meal, and sometimes Tex Mex or Mexican food can be heavy by the time you add on refried beans, melted cheese and sour cream, etc. My dinner was just right. I only had taken a few sips of the soup, it was zesty and hot, pretty good for a chain restaurant and seemed genuinely homemade. Pretty soon as our server came by she asked if I would like her to put the rest of the soup into a container to take home and I agreed; it would make a great lunch the next day. Soon we were don and she brought out the checks, it was a challenge and she first double checked her tickets to make sure she got everything right. It took a while for her to find a manager to reduce the price on my soup but eventually she did. She menioned that this was only her second week on the job and we all praised her and tipped generously as mix-ups happen and a slow kitchen is not the front of the house's staff's fault. Overall thoughts, yes Chuy's is a chain and chances are you will get the same menu and presentation at their other locations but our server made the difference as she tried really hard to please us. read more

It's a chain so the food is mostly always the same, but the service is so bad here oh my goodness. I placed an online order to go for Flautas and some queso, that's IT, and it took them over 45 minutes to get it ready and bring it out. I had to call them twice to confirm they even had my order. I paid online (also can we talk about the fact that an order of flautas and a small queso was $25!?) and don't do tips on curbside, because??? Why? And after i had already said no for the tip, the woman who brought me my order asked me if i was going to tip FOR WHAT. 1 pm on a Thursday, very small lunch crowd- maybe 15 cars in the parking lot if I'm being generous. Absolutely ridiculous. Not only did I wait almost an entire hour, but everything was soggy and barely warm at all. The chips were stale and i ordered double rice and they gave me beans instead. Our server was sweet and helpful with choosing from the menu. This is a good location near many favorite stores and a farmers market sale going on nearby is quaint. Affordable, fast service. My friend and I met here for lunch this past Sunday the 21st at Noon. I had plenty of leftovers which I shared with the Hubby. Got the Appetizer plate and queso called Boom Boom Pow (in background) with beans and avocado & jalapeños and it was thick & yummy. The Unsweetened Tea was very good also. Didn't know there was a Chuy's in New Caney, usually go to the one in Humble and always receive great service there. I expected the same here, but as the time progressed it showed to be different. It was around 6PM and the place was not too busy. Ambiance: 5/5 Parking is plentiful. Dress is casual. Seating is relaxed and great for groups, solo and bar seating available also. Food: 4/5 Upon entering the hostess, greeted me and I spotted my friends and walked over. Initially it took a bit before our waiter walked over to ask if I needed anything, I give him my order. I ordered the boom boom pow and a house Texas 'tini. Both were flavorful and delicious, wasn't aware that the Texas 'tini has orange juice, I was expecting a standard olive brine martini, but it was delicious and would get it again. Could Improve: Service 2/5 - initially our waiter seemed engaged and eventually he just seemed preoccupied with other tables, that were not in the area we were in. My friend ordered a dessert and it took about 20-30 minutes to get it after we had asked a waiter for another table if he could check on our order of churros. And then when it did arrive we asked the server "how is it possible that the table behind us ordered their food after my friend ordered the simple dessert and they both got their full meals?" She said she could get the manager, which never came. I noticed our waiter serving and bringing and checking on his other tables multiple times to even serve drinks and refresh of chips. Eventually when the waiter did pop up he seemed irritated and then asked if we were ready to close out. Didn't seem like he was leaving as I did see him again serving the other table. Waiter came around sooner to ask if we were ready to pay, and we had not yet prepared to close. I did notice that we could pay using the QR code and decided to pay this way to avoid any additional inconvenience to the waiter. After some time, waiter showed up again and said he noticed we paid online then asked if we needed anything else and disappeared. I will commend a different waiter from ours for the booths on opposite side of us, he was checking in on them multiple times and even engaging with them to make them feel welcomed. Although we were there for happy hour, I was ready to actually order dinner, but after feeling like I was being an inconvenience and the extended delays it took to get service, I just ate the appetizer and adjusted my need to ask for anything more. read more

WOW: *real* green chile sauce over a custom order of juevos rancheros! They didn't care if it wasn't on the menu, they were only to happy to make them: and to even HAVE REAL green chile sauce - creamy, non-fiery green chile sauce, I haven't had a breakfast like this since last I was in Colorado, 20 years ago. Muchas Gracias, Chuy's ... I'll be back so soon! The food was excellent, the serving staff amazing and the whole atmosphere was just absolutely family-wonderful. Food was great, however the service is less than desirable. I wish they would train their servers better. We literally had to ask for every..single..item that we needed, napkins, forks, plates, tortillas... it was so weird. Recipe got messed up had to be corrected, had to ask multiple times for a to go box. My husband never liked coming to this location because of the poor service. Guess we will from now on go on down a little further to the location with better service. read more

The happy hour queso bowls are fantastic bargain.. you either like their sauces or you don't.. it's always crowded. They have covered patio seating and a full liquor bar. Good service comes and goes just like everywhere else... I've been eating here since it's open. It's right across the freeway from my house. read more

The food was good and service was excellent. This Chuy location seems very small and tables are too close to each other making it feel like they are trying to crowd people into small area. The area right behind hostess stand is the area where the tables seem especially close to each other making it undesirable. read more

This is the second time I did a second post for a restaurant. I will go 4 stars but tonight was more of a 3.5 stars. My Cobb salad was excellent, wife quesadillas were 1.5 stars. More like tasteless chicken tacos. My wife is a wimp when it comes to spicy foods, tonight the salsas were all spicy. I like my food spicy and my nose was running the whole time while eating. I like Chuys and would definitely comeback. Waitress did a great job too. read more

Look, I've been eating at Chuy's restaurants since I was a little kid in Austin, Tx. Every time I'm in Austin, I go by the original Chuy's and will suffer incredulous wait times if necessary, because of all the nostalgia. I love the Chevys, the wooden fish, the real fish, the eccentric writing on the walls, the Elvis memorabilia... All of it... And that's before getting to the food! Chuy's is still the best Tex-Mex in Texas, if not the world (yes, they have "Tex Mex" both outside Texas, and outside the US; now you know). This trip to this new location was largely as expected, which is is a great thing. Our waiter was Jesse, a very nice guy who hard sold my wife on a margarita and nearly got her to get dessert on top of her fajitas, someone put that guy on wall street ffs. He was amazing, though, no joke. The only down side was that I cannot recommend those guacamole and bacon balls... Holy gross. They're like eating warm snot, that's all I can think of to compare it to... They are LITERALLY the only thing I've ever had from Chuy's that was not good-fantastic. My disappointment here was immediately recovered by the fact that they brought my favorite dish back, the Elvis fried chicken. Go ahead, order it, if you die on the toilet afterwards, like the king, at least you'll be happy (er than the people that have to clean that mess up). Jokes aside, I cannot give this location enough kudos, it's little, but it's very nice, and if the locals support it, it'll eventually have that nice homey feel that all Chuy's have. read more

Was just there and food and service left a lot to be desired. Tortilla soup was so bland and this used to be my favorite. Quesadilla was basically a hard flour tortilla folded in half with cheese and chicken. We were a party of four and we all had problems getting drinks, straws and chip refills. There were more employees there than customers. We ordered two margaritas and only got one. Waited and waited and finally went up to bar to see what the problem was. I went there last Tuesday for lunch. I have visited this location 3 times. I have never been disappointed. I had "The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo." The King would not be disappointed. Not a good experience at all. We ordered a small queso for $8, and it was tiny -- definitely not worth the price. Our margaritas showed up with no straws, no lime, just sloppy presentation. Food is pretty much the same as the other locations. Service however is not. Much better at the Humble/Kingwood location. Was so excited to get one closer to me than that location but sometimes it's just worth the drive for friendly service. Waited 35 minutes to get a to go box and to pay the bill.
