The food is very fresh and NOT GREASY! The chips are very light without a trace of oil. The salads and soft tacos are delicious.

So, we've been to this restaurant frequently since it opened and always left satisfied, outside of having to wait every now and then. Unfortunately that ended today. We ordered pick up for 4 of us and spent ~$60 or so. After getting home, we each opened our trays of food and discovered the smallest and scant servings of rice and beans I have ever seen. I literally ate all of my beans provided in my order with 1 teaspoon and it took me just 2 full teaspoons to eat all of the rice they gave me. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. All 4 of the servings, ie rice, beans, and salsa (outside of the actual burritos and tacos) were paltry. One of our trays were given just 1 small piece of chicken in lieu of the beans evidently, and didn't get any beans whatsoever. Unfortunately this is something I don't think any of us will ever forget. We are thoroughly disappointed in Chuy's and I can assure you we won't let this happen to us again. My experience eating inside was fair considering that it was a crowded Saturday night. Although didn't get the Tomatillo sauce that I had requested. It was easy to get the attention of the server. The food was good and liked the generous portion of rice that I got. Previously, I had only gotten delivery from this location, which was packaged nicely and had the creamy sauce without even asking - which I didn't get dining in, which I was kind of sad about. Can it get any worse? If Yelp would let me I would give them zero stars. I cannot believe I let my son talk me into going there. Where do I start? Again I have to complain about the menu. It's minimal and sucks. This is not the Chuy's I grew up with in Texas. Take my word for it, this was my last trip there. My shrimp tacos were the worst thing I've ever had. The shrimp used to be big plump fried up crispy served with fantastic cabbage and now my fish taco came out with tiny little bland rubbery grilled, boiled...I'm not even sure what they did to the shrimp! It took over an hour to get the food. Now I know Covid is some restaurants excuse, and I know it's hard to get servers and restaurants they have to come back. But there's no reason for shrimp tacos, ground beef tacos and cheese quesadillas to take a freaking hour! Hell, 80% of the stuff on the plate is made in advance sitting in a container ready to be served. And it wasn't like there was a crowd lined out the door. Ended up here tonight because Ale House was packed. Food service was painfully slow (even though it was practically empty). But, and this is a BIG BUT - seeing a palmetto bug crawling up the wall behind our table, having a server come to try and kill it and have it fall almost on our table, then not having any management even come out to speak with us or offer any type of comp (PALMETTO BUG Y'ALL) was unbelievable. Can you get better Mexican food? Yes. You can. But Chuy's is a great "Tex-Mex" option even from a chain resturant. Make sure you grab a cup of their Creamy Jalapeno Cilantro Dip. It's great for chips, on top of your fajitas or rice! I prefer Fajita's. Honestly, you can't mess them up too badly. It's great the amount of sauce options you can have. Just nooo!!! Had an early dinner on Friday and do not plan on going back! I had the Friday special of the fat daddy enchiladas and let me just start with there was nothing "fat" about them!! They were just regular enchiladas and sadly lukewarm, even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The chicken inside was white and didn't have seasoning, tasted like it had been boiled while the tortilla was dry and felt more like a cracker even though it was topped with cheese sauce (asked for queso instead of the green sauce it normally comes with)....I couldn't even finish one! This Tex-Mex is more like the McDonalds of Mexican food...if you've had the real deal and love flavour, this is not the place for you! Chuy's is not your typical Mexican restaurant. First of all, it is Tex-Mex. which in my experience has usually meant Mexican food for the "gringo ". And while some of that may be true here, the food was better overall than say on the border or the like. That being said, Chuy's could make some small changes that would make a big difference. Firstly, and most importantly, why in the world would you not have any beers on draft? Bottles only? Really? Next, you would think that on cinco de mayo you would have some great food and drink specials right? Not so much. 5 dollar queso or guacamole and dollar off Dos Equis bottles. I asked for a spicier salsa option and was surprised to be offered Tabasco. I've been to Texas, heck I was born in Texas. We like our salsa spicy. Salsas were neither Tex or Mex. I must say that they did have some spicier sauce options for burritos and enchiladas but those were for covering not dipping. I gave Chuy's 3 stars instead of two for the reasonable prices. As you can see from the picture of my entree, I got my monies worth for 11 bucks. It was also nice that the kids meals came with a drink and desert. I love Chuy's. I like the salsa the best and even come get it for carryout frequently. It really is one of the best salsas I've tried in a long time. I followed this restaurant from South Park to its new Waverly location. I usually get a la carte tacos because they are the best deal for me, since I don't like beans or rice. The tacos are really good. The meat (ground beef) is full of flavor and the shells are crisp and delicious. All of the insides are fresh. The service is awesome. The staff greets you at the door and makes you feel right at home. The restaurant, being brand new, is extremely clean and well organized. read more

Chuys isn't much to talk about for me. It's not authentic Mexican in my opinion so you have to take it for what it's worth. The frozen margaritas & sangrias are worth a seat at the bar or in the bar area especially during the week between 4pm - 7pm where you can munch on nachos for free while you sip via the Happy Hour complimentary Nacho car. We've had take out from here once and wasn't impressed as the food lacked flavor and seasoning. My husband and I had the fish and the shrimp tacos and the batter on the seafood wasn't very tasty. Our son had the a child's chicken quesadilla which wasn't very yummy for him either. The cheese seemed to be like American cheese which isn't good cheese for a quesadilla. I returned today for some frozen margaritas with my neighbor for her birthday and we dined in at the bar. Went for early dinner. Our waitress was really nice and provided great service. The chips and salsa was very good and the margaritas was good. But unfortunately everything after that was not good. My son loves Chuy's so we end up here often. I'm a TexMex fan, so the food is fine for me. But why in the world is this place so pricy? $9 for a small bowl of queso? 1.70 extra because I asked for some sour cream for my burrito? Another $2.00 for a side of rice because they forgot to put it in the burrito? Our lunch (with tip) was $58!! $58 for a TexMex lunch of queso, two steak burritos and two non-alcoholic drinks is crazy! And that's not an overcharge on the part of the waitress. I checked. The burritos were $13ish each. My son's steak was grisly and my burrito was mainly beans with three bites of steak. It's just gotten ridiculous here. read more

I chose the stacked enchilladas made with blue corn tortillas. Was very happy with my choice. Service was very good - our waitress was very attentive to keeping the chip baskets filled. The chips and sauces were a highlight. Super thin and crispy and interesting dipping a to along with. I order a frozen strawberry margarita, nothing to write home about the best I can say is that it was a nice fruity drink...minus the salt which was a bit surprising. Blech. The food is AWFUL. Greasy, salty, stale... just horrible. We ordered a "chuychanga" after being told it was great, but it's awful. My son ordered a cheeseburger and his bun was rock hard stale. My daughter quesadilla was greasy and wet. The fajita beef tasted like steed meat that had been cooking all day and broke down into a beef mush. I would come back and try again, but everything was so awful, I probably won't bother. Sad to say this place is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good sever and decent food, others ( and more often) it's an apathetic server or snarky bartender who can't mix a drink to save their life and subpar food. You guys are gonna have to do better if you want to compete with everything else opening in this area. Start by teaching your staff to care and then teach the bartenders to be welcoming and learn how to make a margarita. We ordered top shelf liquor (tres generaciones añejo and don julio silver, respectively, both with grand marnier) and they will remain on the table when we leave due to the bartender mixing sooooo much sweet n sour in them. We are from Austin and so have a soft spot and big appetite for Tex Mex, including eating at the original Chuy's on Barton Creek many times. This location leaves a lot to be desired, bar area is small, dining area smallest of any Chuy's we've ever been to, and the service can be horrendously slow and poor in general. The South Park location was so much better, but also a lot less busy even considering the Cowfish overflow people. Still, I give this place 5 stars because the food never disappoints. My wife gets the same thing every time, Chicka-chicka Boom Boom. If you like chicken enchiladas and spicy sauce, this is the go-to dish esp with the hatch chile rice, that you can also sub with any meal. I've ventured all over the menu, my favorite is the chile relleno with shredded chicken. Also the cornflake fried chicken is good, always the big as yo face burrito is a good choice esp if you are hungry. Hopefully the service improves and the wait gets shorter, sometimes it is as long as 2 hours for a table of 5! You can always try the open seating at the bar.
