I'm bringing down the rating here but I just was not impressed. $2.50 a churro or 3 for $6 is outrageous, I usually pay just over a buck and think that is more than enough. That and they were not fresh, he had a pile laying there ready to give out. Sure it was warm, but only from the heatlamp. I like them more crunchy, less doughey, it was good but not great, felt more like a boardwalk rip off. Glad I tried it, but not worth getting again. This is a nice little spot on the pier. For some reason, it's really hard to get just humbly great tasting churros. Everything is either super manufactured or super overpriced. We're glad we found this spot. There's a similar shop in orange county called The Loop, and it's basically terrible lol. Well obviously this establishment does not have an interior or does not aim to be a trendy spot at Instagram, it has something that most dessert places lack, actually good food. The churros are really dense and incredibly tasteful. While the ice cream is just normal, it pairs well with the homemade churros. It was a great experience overall. The Pier Bakery version are advertised as "homemade" and they might be, but they weren't the freshest. Four of us split three pretty average churros. Churros are one of my all-time favorite desserts! We had just finished a late lunch and were walking around the pier stuffed and ready for a beach bike ride, but as soon as we stumbled in front of this joint, my eyes completely lit up and I just had to get my sugary cinnamon fix on. They serve the churros wrapped up in a kind of parchment paper, so it keeps nice and warm all around. It was wonderfully chewy on the inside and crunchy and sweet on the outside. Hands down the best churros I've had in Cali! Their store front is called World Famous Churros now I believe, but it was once called Pier Bakery Churros. $2.50 for 1, or $6 for 3 and they're big! Always fresh, I had to wait a minute before taking a big bite because it was still hot. The churro is super crunchy outside but doughy and so soft inside. Covered with tons of cinnamon sugar, it's the perfect dessert to eat as you walk around the pier! My boyfriend and I split 3 between us 2 and we were definitely full afterwards. They also serve cotton candy! Never seen anybody get any, but it's a fun option. I have lived in the area my whole life and this weekend was the first time I've ever been to this churro location. I usually go to the one on the upper part of the pier but GASP that area is under construction!! I was devastated because I had been wanting churros for the past week and what was I going to do now?!? That lasted all of 30 seconds because I remembered there is another churro bakery near the docks. So off I skipped. I was hesitant to try a new churro place because my allegiance lies with the other bakery. As I got closer, my boyfriend noticed that the guy working inside...was the same guy from the other bakery! My faith in life was restored because I knew these were going to be good. We got three for $5 (almost got 2, but one more for just a $1 more? I'm sold). Found a little table, sat down, and bit into the churro-y goodness. They were warm, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, rolled in tons of sugar, perfectly cooked. We each ate one for the time being and I tucked the other one into my purse for a snack later. FYI: a day-old churro tastes better than no churro at all. Super cute spot to craven that sweet tooth after walking the pier. 3 for $6 is a deal you can't beat for a carnival size churro. The lady working had only 2 left but was in the process of frying more. So I waited the extra 2 minutes for the 3 delicious golden brown churros, that reminded me of my bi-weekly Costco trips, only better! There was a perfect amount of cinnamon sugar on it that every bite left some sugar on my lips! I think because I know this was made with love made it that much tastier. Yeah... I know its kind of silly to review a small churro bakery, but since I did, it should speak volumes of how delicious these churros are! Whenever I come visit my sister in Redondo Beach, I make sure to make the walk down to the pier to grab one of these! There are two of these locations at the pier, one is a small store-like bakery nestled underneath a staircase at the south end of the pier. The other is on the north-side. For some reason I feel the one on the southside tastes better, maybe because the location feels cleaner and less crowded. Lol Nevertheless, they make dozens every half hour so every churro is sure to be perfectly coated with cinnamon and sugar, super warm and fresh. There's a soft crunchy texture on the outside and extremely warm and soft on the inside. They are about a foot and a half in size and $2.50 each or 3 for $5. They also sell different dipping sauces for $0.50 cents too. My recommendation is to buy one of these churros and buy ice cream a few stores down. Perfect combination for dessert or when you're feeling like a sinful food-rebel. I'll definitely be back! Verdict: 4.5 Stars! Just a half star deduction for being a tad expensive. I saw everyone walking around with a churro in their hand so, using my brilliant skills of reason and deduction, I figured this might be an indication that they were making a delicious taste treat at this stand. The only way to screw up a churro is if you give me something stale and/or cold, but this was 100% freshly made and deliciously warm. Let me just say that churros are best when they are kept simple! I've had the gourmet variety from Picca and although they were good, I prefer the style of churros that I grew up on...a foot-long of toasty, crunchy and cinnamon-y ridged tubes with a warm doughy texture in the center. No need for a dip as they're good just the way they are. Why re-make something all fancy-schmancy and charge $$$ when they're already so delish? 3 for $5 = getting your money's worth :) This particular churros shop on the Redondo Beach Pier has been in business for years. I remember coming here as a kid with my family. Ahhhh, memories! :) I'm not sure if it's a family-owned business but there's usually just one guy working. Friendly as ever too! Now I always see people selling churros in the subway back home but I can never truly seem to purchase food whilst underground. While leaving the pier I had to stop and partake of the churros sitting there on the windowsill 1 for $2, 3 for $5. I had just a fraction of one and it melted in my mouth it was so divine. At this point I felt cheated that for all these years I had never tried on of this deliciously portable snacks before. Needless to say for 2 days straight I was dying to go back.
