Fantastic Churrasco Argentina Meal - rare !!!
    Michael C.

I went here Monday for the first time ever after hearing about this great place at times for years. I decided to order the Churrasco Argentina with the 10 oz size tenderloin cooked rare instead of the smaller. When it comes to steak, I usually eat 1 lb NY Strips or at least 14 oz if they're dry-aged. I was surprised at the richness and overall meal size for a ten oz, bc it seemed a little bigger which was nice. My meat meal was really delicious, well-marinated / seasoned and tender. There were some tougher bites, but overall very soft in feel. Every single bite was perfection in terms of flavor which was key. The inner redness was definitely rare, so great job on that too. The chimichurri was so good and obviously handmade with a tangy, herby, aromatic taste with a well-blended recipe you can't just copy. The au gratin potatoes were very greasy, but also very tasty, cheesy, buttery and soft with a little bite to them. I might even get mashed potatoes next time since that's my favorite potato style to begin with. The plantain chips were good stuff before the meal. Both sauces were good with the green one being earthy combined with a little sweetness, while the red one had a bit of a mezcal punch to it. The service from the servers and manager was very welcoming, efficient and friendly. This was the best tenderloin I ever had in my life, along with the one from Rumi's, two very different recipes of course. I love a good NY Strip and dark chocolate dessert, which I need to try here in the future as well.

Came here for a company outing so my meal was paid for. We came when they first opened for dinner service at 4pm so we had the place to ourselves. The staff was very nice and welcoming. I enjoyed my NY strip. Not the best steak I've had but the butter garlic sauce is the hero when you pour it over it (and everything else). Parking isn't great in this area as it shares to lots with Target and a ton of other stores.

Came here for Houston restaurant week and wow this food was phenomenal! The paella is probably my favorite and love the unique plantain trips to snack on. The waiter was so welcoming, and the restaurant had a nice calming ambiance to it.

We stopped by here recently and I was glad to see some of my favorite menu items are still around! The Corn Smoked Crab Fingers come with red bell pepper, jalapeño, scallion, lemon butter & yucca and are amazing! You've got to get the Churrasco steak- it's cooked perfectly and I've never had a better chimichurri sauce. We also had the Salmon Tiridito that was very light and refreshing.

    Only the BEST steak anywhere.

My absolute favorite restaurant on the planet. The Churrasco Steak out does any snobby pretentious Steak House every time. Tender, flavorful, melts like butter in your mouth, grilled to order to perfection gosh this place is GREAT!

This is a late review. Maybe that's good? Helps weed out what was actually memorable about the experience? I remember the place was big, spacious, which is a plus. We went for Restaurant Weeks, this is when I try places I wouldn't normally. This can be risky. I think it was in this case bc I remember getting that feeling that they were churning out meals to satiate the masses. I remember liking the veggies in my dish but also feeling like I didn't need to come back or add this to my rotation. Thankful for the sustenance. Two word review: take risks.

We chose this spot because they were able to accommodate our large group last minute. It's located in a shopping center in the River Oaks area. Easy to find with plenty of free parking. They had our table for ten ready to go and we arrived in two's and they didn't require the whole party to be there to be seated. Joe was our waiter and he did a great job from start to finish and didn't rush us out. Originally we came for the HRW lunch but soon found out they had their weekend brunch buffet ready to go. The amazing aromas hit us as we walked in and we knew that's what we wanted. I started off with a Mango Caipirinha while we waited on our party to arrive. They have quite a few drink specials for lunch. This drink was refreshing and a perfect drink for brunch. Once we all arrived, we made our way to the buffet. They have cold items like shrimp and ceviche, hot items, breakfast items, a omelet and crepe bar, a carving station and desserts. I believe I tried a little bit of everything and it was absolutely delicious. My group agreed that this will be our brunch spot if we are craving some variety.

I've been to Churrascos on and off the past year and they don't disappoint. The food is always fresh, savory, and absolutely delicious! I had my usual Churrasco 6oz with the side of grilled veggies, crispy potato's, with some pickles onions which complements each other very well. My absolute favorite of the night was the Tequila Bread pudding they had and it was 10/10! So good I didn't get to snap a photo! Even though Churrascos has slow down and he's not super busy they are definitely a place to go and try out! Service was 10/10 and the ambiance was great! Also very clean restrooms! I will definitely be back!

Nice restaurant for a good dinner. I love the plantain chips and dips they give you to start. You can't go wrong ordering the Churrasco steak, that is usually my go-to. This time I tried the Argentino style with the cheesy potatoes. The steak was perfect. The cheesy potatoes were ok. Our server Juan took good care of us. What I didn't like was that I had put on my reservation on open table that it was my birthday. We had to remind the waiter, but I did of course appreciate the free birthday dessert!

This place was delicious! It's been 20 years since we've eagerness here and this place did not disappoint. Tanja our server was excellent. She made some recommendations and very attentive. The additional staff kept our glasses full and plantains plentiful! Excellent service. The food was AMAZING! I had the ensalada churrasco with medium rare petite fillet and it did not disappoint. It was so delicious! My husband had the cerdo marinero (pork w/ crab and shrimp) he really enjoyed his meal. Our sons had the mixto plate(petite fillet, chicken breast, grilled shrimp and sausage) with a side of rice, plantains and fried cheese. My other son had grilled salmon with veggies. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The place was clean and staff attentive. Great choice!

    Plantain chips to start, wonderful!

Visited this location recently, we typically go to the Memorial City restaurant. Never too busy, but the food and service are always great. Pricing is a tad too high for this level of restaurant.

Their unique position as one of the only Venezuelan spots in the loop becomes even more niche when one realizes that part of the menu is also Mediterranean / Middle Eastern (#1). If that's not Houston in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The place sports a casual vibe with a clean and bright interior. It's been practically empty with every visit, but I suspect the takeout game is strong here. There is limited parking in the back of the restaurant and the narrow alleyway entrance is somewhat easy to miss. Food wise, I am not disappointed. Their cheese cachapa is the stuff of dreams and includes a number of stuffings from ham to shredded chicken / beef. My vote is for their pabellón, which is a nice combination of shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains. For cheese lovers, the double cheese is perfectly indulgent with the sweetness of the cornmeal. The main draw for me was the arepas, which is something I missed having had so much of it back in NYC. La Pelua (shredded beef, mixed shredded cheese) is one of my go-tos, but my all-time favorite is the reina pepiada, a shredded chicken mixed with avocado topped with sprinkled salty white cheese. It's a staple in the Venezuelan arepa game and while their version is very solid, I'm just extremely thankful that it's available. Their breakfast platters are a big draw, which mainly consist of scrambled egg combos paired with arepas and various proteins. I think their yuca buñelos, tequeños, patacones, and especially their mandocas are incredibly underrated. The latter is practically dessert since it's mashed plantains with the cachapa stuffed with sugar and cheese. While they're not known for their empanadas, I do think their cazon (#2) is unique and their potato and cheese is always hearty. The shredded beef is a nice alternative to their arepas or arepitas (side) and make for an excellent snack on the go. Fans of Venezuelan cuisine who find themselves in the inner loop owe them a visit and I highly recommend calling ahead of time to ensure they have items available and to get a jump on the wait time for takeout. They are a slept on gem in the neighborhood and one that I hope sticks around for a very long time. _____________ (#1) The owners are Venezuelan and Syrian. The sweetest couple. (#2) Dogfish? They even have a gluten free fryer separate from a regular fryer, which is great! The restaurant itself is very casual, few tables and friendly staff at the counter for helping decide. I tried the caxapa with cheese, 3 empanadas with various fillings, and the plain mini areas. All the items were good especially the caxapa and the empandas, though I think the combination of items I picked was definitely fryer-heavy. The sauces they were served with with are also a nice accompaniment. We got to go and excited to try out more of their menu!

I finally had the pleasure of checking out Tex-Chick Eatery, a family-owned Puerto Rican restaurant…read morethat's been serving the community since 1982 and is now lovingly run by Titi Marilu and Grace. From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. This is a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can't ask for better service; if there's something you're craving that's not in the menu for that day and they have time, they'll gladly make it for you! That's the kind of love and care you only find in places that cook from the heart. Prices are very reasonable although parking can be a bit tricky but that's mostly all of Montrose. I hate to sound like an old grumpy man. . . but it takes a special experience for me to sit down…read moreand write a review. I don't do it often - mainly because there are so few dining experiences that move me to the point that I have to let others know. Caracol was one of those experiences - in the best possible way. On our visit, Caracol was offering a 4-course dinner (2 appetizer courses, a main dish, and dessert) for $75 per person. We took the bait. Good move on our part. First course was a crab meat tostada. It was delightful. Plenty of fresh crab meat and spiced to perfection. And the tostada itself? So good! Probably due to the fact that Caracol grinds their own corn and flour in house. They don't just make tortillas, they make their own masa. Outstanding! Next came 2 shrimp tacos. Crunchy, melt in your mouth, well seasoned, just right. At this point, we were starting to get full, but there was plenty more on the way. Main course was a 7-ounce ribeye served with an authentic Northern Mexican cheese enchilada. The enchilada was filled with fresh Mexican queso blanco (no yellow cheddar in sight) and topped with a delicious rojo sauce. One of the best I've had. The ribeye was perfectly cooked to medium rare, and it was topped with a smear of what tasted like chimichurri. Scrumptious. And don't forget to taste their beans and rice. Wonderful stuff. By the time dessert came out, we were fairly stuffed. But when someone places a homemade cookie topped with Mango mousse in front of you - you've got to try it. WOW. So good. Dessert was served with Mexican hot chocolate prepared table side. Yes, they make their own chocolate at Caracol, and it is beyond delicious. The manager asked if we had ever been to Caracol and we said no. So they decided to bring us an order of churros on the house. Friends, it is no exaggeration to say that these churros were on a whole other level. Light, fluffy on the inside, served hot and fresh. Melt in your mouth delicious. My wife ordered the optional "Drink Pairings" - they brought her one specialty cocktail with each course. We shared them. We were afraid that with the fresh fruit juices would make the drinks too sweet for our tastes. Nope. Each one was a balance of sweet fruit flavors that were tamed by smoky, spicy chipotle, tajin, and other spices. We liked the drinks - a lot. If you are in the Galleria area of Houston, and the thought of another "Prime Steakhouse" meal sounds kind of boring, try something different. Try something that will challenge your perception of what real Mexican food is. Spoil yourself in a place with excellent service. Challenge your taste buds with unexpected flavors and spices. You will be so glad you did.

Best thing I tried. The shrimp was well cooked and the rice had some flavor but was overall something I didn't feel the need to finish. Not impressive. Some folks ordered the tuna tacos and steak. They were all eaten quickly. The steaks ordered medium were on the medium rare side so cooked appropriately. Oysters were good. Scallops were okay. Chocolate cake just okay. Churros were great. If I were dining here again I would probably just do dessert and appetizers. The flan paired well with their decaf coffee. They were out of the French toast. The flan was VERY good. Not the best thing and the table but it was good.
