Ever since the Hunny and I discovered the Golden Chick in Orange five years ago, I was hoping that…read morethis restaurant would open in Vidor. In May 2026, it opened.
And, just as I hoped, Golden Chick has been busy. Graduation night, the cars for the drive-up window was wrapped around the building and backed up to Main Street. Tonight, the L family ate there, and we had trouble finding parking.
So, of all the chicken places in the area - Chick-fil-A, Popeye's, Church's, Layne's, Raising Cane - how does Golden Chick stand up? Very well. All of them have good things about them. I had the usual spicy chicken, Big & Wicked Sandwich, and it's simpler than Chick-fil-A, less spicy than Popeye's, as moist as Layne's, the skin nearly as crunchy as Church's. So did the women in my life. The Hunny had the three piece, the girl had a Big & Golden Sandwich. The Hunny liked hers so much, she worked hard to finish it all, and got upset when the girl stole a fry. Girl: "Ooh, these pickles are thick."
No opening week snags. The dining area was clean, lots of seating, happy & hard-working staff. It's fast food, so don't expect fancy or expensive, you'll get neither. Instead, you'll get the same tasty food as at other Golden Chicks.
If you're in Vidor, Rose City, or Pine Forest, come out and give Golden Chick some love. They deserve it.
