Come night time the tables are stored away and the crown becomes a party central for Devizes, it rivals with the corn exchange night club for custom most Saturdays and Fridays. The Crown have their own football team for Sunday leagues, they also show live sporting events (mainly football). They had the Hatton-Mayweather fight live at 5am. The landlord is very friendly, welcoming all his customers when he can.

There is a small public bar with a few tables set out on the polished wooden floor in front of the bar. Down two steps into a plush and carpeted lounge with tables and comfortable chairs, lots of nice furnishings, paintings and flowers. We were amazed at the varied menu, especially all the vegetarian choices: SIX not counting the omelettes or baked potatoes! Good value too, from £5 to £6.65. A nice little woolly dog called Ben lives in the bar and there are photos of him on the mantlepiece too! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or happen to live around here.

My wife got a half-pint of cider that was fine though. The local vibe when we visited: a couple guys came in from their smoke outside to finish their pints and started singing along to their jukebox selections. Some schoolkids (possibly the owner's or staff's family) did some homework and left. Overall, pretty cheery. The place is well lit, with a small bar, but lots of tables, and a pool table in the back. It has a side patio (popular with smokers) that also leads to the restrooms. Place probably picks up a bit after the dinner hour. If this was a restaurant, I'd be disappointed, but since it was pretty much just a bar with a small kitchen, I'm fine. Staff was ok and probably wondering why Americans would stop in here for food. I think my wife just liked the concept of eating at a pub called The Three Crowns and soak in some local color. Could barely get to the bar because of the band equipment. Got to the bar, tried to make conversation with the sullen faced bartender and gave up quickly. Ordered a couple of drinks, handed over money and she never spoke a word! Made it VERY obvious that I wasn't a known face and was therefore unwelcome. Nice to have your regulars, I understand that, but in a town this size? You can't afford to alienate people, there are limited numbers of underage drinkers out there ;) Oh wait ........
