When ARVU took over the property, I very much looked forward to establishing a relationship with them. However, so far, they are nothing like Tom and the boys at Walt's. What should have been a $400+ repair blossomed into a $950 tab. Mostly it was because of a 'diagnosis' charge. Walt's used to charge the diagnosis if work was not performed, but waived it if work was performed. In this case, ARVU maintained the charge........and added a SECOND charge. Therefore, I was charged $172.50 TWICE. That's $350 not even counting the work. When I questioned it, no equivocation or negotiation. Then, when I wrote two emails with concern, NO answer back. Not cool. Not sure how everyone else feels about this, but I find it difficult to ever patronize them again.

Instead I brought it to Munich Motors, they fixed it for $1700 by taking it apart and sending the defective piece out to another company down south that works on them. My solenoids had gotten gunked up from a bad seal. Car runs fantastic now. Had it with Munich Motors for about a week as they needed to tear into it and then send the part out. Great company! jp

He did a fantastic job on the bumper, pulled out a dent in the front quarter panel that had been there for about a decade, and generally spruced up the car. It looked beautiful! I brought my 93 Honda Accord in for an oil change and a problem…read morewith a few drops of red oil of some sort I assume it was transmission fluid well they took a look at the car and I was told it was not worth fixing! Transmission needs replacement and oil leaking from distributor cap, needed rear bushings and needed an entire exhaust system Bare in mind I thought I could trust these people so I started looking a found a newer used car which emptied my savings. Ok so I decided that I would sell my problematic Honda I took it to another mechanic and low and behold there was nothing wrong with the transmission the red liquid was a broken clamp on the power steering and they replaced a few pipes on the exhaust system total fix including a oil change was about $300. The Honda is o great shape and on the road once again. The icing on my cake is one stop charged me $48.00 for their diagnostic and I got nothing but an empty savings account and a migraine please save yourself the headache and go elsewhere!

I have a 17 yr old vehicle thats rear left brake caliper was sticking. Upon further inspection, the…read morerear left brake pad had worn down to the metal because of the sticking caliper. So I brought it here to get repaired. The good: They do an inspection with photos and put it online for you to see. The service writer was patient and helpful in figuring out what work to get done and was upfront about costs. They offer free loaner cars, which I did not use. The are ASE certified mechanics. The bad: The original inspection addressed everything else they wanted to replace and did not address what caused the sticking caliper - the reason I was there. They did go back and look at it though once I asked, and said the pins probably rusted. They wanted to replace a strut, front brakes and rear brakes, secure a heat shield better, degrease the engine to pinpoint a leak, and do an oil change. It's good to know about that stuff but the rear left brake was the pressing issue. Was originally quoted $1,175 to replace just the rear brakes: new calipers, new rotors, new pads on both the rear left and rear right (but not the front.) The car is only worth $1500, it's a Scion/Toyota not a Mercedes or BMW and it's old. I had been quoted $850 to do all that somewhere else with 3 yr warranty, new parts etc. So I asked what's the minimum they could do to get all 4 brakes working and they said they could replace just the rear left caliper and rear left brake pads for $450. The brake pads come in sets for both rear wheels but the mechanic wouldn't put the rear pads on the right side because he wouldn't work with the rear right caliper - it's too old and rusty, might break (though I would've taken that risk.) He would want to replace it instead. Well if I replaced every old rusty part of my car that still works I'd have a new car, and they charge $300+ to put a new caliper in. And they don't machine resurface rotors even if they're thick enough to. They said they want to warranty the rotors for 3 years instead. Well my car might not last another 3 years. So I chose the $450 option. When I picked it up they gave me the breakdown of the work: $192 for a remanufactured caliper sold at NAPA a few blocks away from the shop for less than $100. $50 for brake pads sold at NAPA for $25. $178 for the labor to install a new caliper and pads on just the rear left wheel. The brakes vibrate because they don't resurface rotors. They gave me the extra set of brake pads that came in the box they wouldn't put on the right side without replacing the caliper. I see a lot of good reviews here but nobody is saying what they paid. And they don't want to work with old rusty parts, just replace them all. Maybe that's typical, but 4 or 5 stars would be going above typical. And the shop is only open until 5pm. It took a week to get me in. All that said, this isn't a negative review. I'm just saying this may be a small, honest family owned shop in Corcoran with just a few mechanics and service people, but it isn't a thrifty one. Far from it. But I do now know all the work my car needs done in the near future and how to tackle it with a more thrifty shop and a probably a parts dealer/service locator like Tirerack.
