Wow! The reviews…read moremade me do it and I'm so glad I did! We stopped in during the FIFA championship game and had the most delicious Smashburger and fries while watching Spain win! Inside the building you order at the counter for any of the restaurants advertised on the exterior of the building which includes this one. In contrast to other reviews, yes, there are drinks on site available. It's just a separate order. Beers, sodas, water, etc., all available. The burger? We both got the Slowpoke smashee. Double burger with cheese and the slightly perfectly crunchy edges of beef, pickles that zing, a sauce that just makes it all MELT in your mouth, and the fries which are literally the PERFECT crisp! On man! They are seasoned well, and fried perfectly. The burger was a bit greasy as expected and the perfect blend of seasoned beef, toasted brioche bun, sautéed onions that are delicious and perfectly sautéed, and that melted real cheese and sauce. It was so good my boyfriend ate his and ordered another one of course he had a stomach ache after, but yes, he devoured two doubles. It was that tasty. My pictures do it absolutely no justice because we dove in before I took them so they look a mess. It came looking much better than these photos of burgers we had already tore into from the excitement from reading the reviews. Service was great at the counter. Friendly. Your food gets brought out to you. The seating area is comfortable and casual and even includes some couches and several TVs. Perfect place to watch the game.

While in the Carolinas we made our way to Optimist Hall. As food halls go everyone splits and picks…read morewhatever delights their fancy and then reconvenes and enjoys. We were lucky to grab seating larger enough to accommodate our group right by the Poppycox suite/stall. While everyone wandered to grab food, I noticed the continual line and what I could only assume was their notable popularity and decided I will give Poppycox a try. I joined the line and perused the menu as this would be my first introduction to the brand and what they offered. When I made it to the front to place my order I was initially met with a welcoming "hello and what can I get you", that quickly turned sour. I guess because I wasn't a regular whom automatically knew what I wanted and I actually had questions. Me: I would like to try the Crazi Daddy Fries.... Can you please tell me what is "Comeback Sauce"? Employee: The sauce on the chicken. Me: Ok, I understand that but what kind of sauce is it exactly? Employee: Huh? Well I can't really tell you that. Me: You can't tell me what the sauce contains? I'm asking because I'm not a fan of some mayo based sauces... is it mayo based? **disregards my question and engages in a side convo with another employee and then walks off** 2nd Employee: Can I help you? Me: She couldn't tell me what's in the "comeback sauce" can I please taste it to make sure I'm ok with it? 2nd Employee: No I cannot allow you to taste the "comeback sauce" Me: Ok. To be clear she wouldn't tell me what the sauce is, and you're saying I can't taste it first before it's squeezed all over my order. This is my first time trying your food. 2nd Employee: Yes, that's correct. Me: Well can I have ranch instead? 2nd Employee: Ok, we charge for the sauce. Me: Ok well you can just put the comeback sauce on the side please incase I do not like it. 2nd Employee: There will be additional charge for the sauce on the side. Me: I'm not asking for additional sauce. I'm no longer asking for you to change the sauce. I'm simply asking for you not to put the sauce that I cannot try or know what it's made of on the side please. 2nd Employee: Yes. You will be charged for that. Me: Fine! At this point I'm convinced I must be on some hidden camera show because the amount of attitude and back & forth I'm getting over this "highly coveted comeback sauce" is mind-boggling. My order is placed and as I sit at our table and wait for my order. I'm looking for the camera crew. Welp turns out no crew, that was just the service. Overall the Crazi Daddy Fries were ok. They are very filling and larger enough to share especially if you would like try other food while at Optimist Hall. The Chopped Chicken- flavorful and juicy. Nicely seasoned and you can control your spice level. The Fries- not impressive, honestly kinda hard and dry. This would have been better and elevated with crinkle cut fries IMO. The Comeback Sauce- as I suspected not my thing. I enjoyed the ranch much better. Yes I was charged for both. (To be clear it was not the charge it was the whole interaction) The Service- Honestly sad. The attitudes were unnecessary, but more important the assumption that every customer is familiar with your product or what you offer is a disservice to both parties. Especially when questions are immediately dismissed or answered with frustration. Just A Note: -3% Surcharge for Credit Cards -My experience was extra spicy and I'm not talking about the chicken. So much so I forgot to snap a pic of the food because I was still taken aback.

The sugar daddy slider is basically a kings Hawaiian roll with a spoonful of pimento and a third of a piece of bacon. Not very filling. They're version of a jalapeño popper was good, but again, it was just three balls. For what it's worth, I'd be willing to try something like the loaded fries to see if that is more worth the price, because again, it was good food.

Look, ordering this chopped cheese was a high-stakes gamble…read more The bread? Immaculate. Pillowy soft, holding it down like an absolute MVP. But then you bite into the meat and realize the kitchen committed a cardinal sin: using pre-ground beef instead of chopping actual burger patties on the griddle. You completely lose those crispy, caramelized edges that make a chopped cheese a chopped cheese. It just tasted like seasoned laziness. To top it off, waiting on the order felt like applying for a mortgage for reasons unknown to modern science. Bottom line: The bread is elite and this spot definitely has promise, but until they stop disrespecting flat-top fundamentals and fix the texture of the meat, keep your expectations on a leash.

The cabbage dish is incredible, packed with flavor and easily one of the best vegetable preparations I've had in a long time. The shrimp fritters are perfectly cooked, crisp and loaded with flavor. The chicken thighs are downright addictive. The biggest surprise for me, though, was the hamachi. Exceptionally fresh, clean, and prepared with the kind of precision you'd expect from a high-end restaurant. What stands out most is that this isn't elevated food pretending to be chef-driven, it very clearly is chef-driven. Every dish feels intentional and expertly executed. This is one of those places where, after your first meal, you're immediately rooting for their success. If you're in Charlotte, make the trip to Uncle's at Burial. It's out back of burial, they are taking a chance I hope it pays off. But nothing wrong with having some of the best beers in Charlotte out front. I've been following their menu for a while, sooooo many things I've want led to try. Tonight we got the charred cabbage dressed in an Asian style lightly vinegar based sauced. The only thing I'd only give a 9 out of 10 on, could have more char. It was still really good!!!! Every single other bite was absolutely amazing. The tom yum/kha ketchup alone was a game changer with the potato wedges. The beef dog with fried shallots and sweet Thai dipping sauce was spot on. Everything is extremely well balanced and thought out. Seriously, I may still stand by the best bite of food in Charlotte is the tableside torched scallop at Yunta, but these guys are crushing everything they do. I want to start a group where we order it all every time the meu changes.
